    Cyn, I agree with most of what your saying. I'm not lazy, i wash my hair weekly, moisturize & comb it. I never relaxed my hair at home, I always went to a salon with a professional & I still got burns & my hair fell off. I sought a trained cosmetologist & trichologist, & she told me to braid my hair & just leave it. No combing, oiling, or frequent washing, just let it grow. This was a few years ago. Thank God i never listened to the trichologist & chose to wash my hair weekly & stopped braiding it. The point I'm making is, some of these professionals are ignorant & they teach that, making knowing how to properly care for your hair hard!

    I also went to a licensed professional for my relaxers and it makes sense now why only she thought it looked cute. I thought i had thin hair for years. And while I don’t have a lion’s mane, i do have more density without breakage from relaxers smh. I still took some of her tips and just moved on.

    I would totally love it if one day, you could do a video addressing hair care for people who sweat a lot. I don't mean a little forehead moisture where you can just slap on a headband. I mean people whose hair is completely soaked after a workout, or people who will literally sweat while in the middle of blow drying or flat ironing their hair (esp on a hot humid summer day). 🥵 I am one of those people and it sometimes feels hopeless knowing it's bad to air dry your hair, but blow drying it seems pointless when you're immediately going to start sweating either while you're doing it, or as soon as you're done. Guess we could get Botox 😅😬 but seriously... Would love to hear your insight and practical advice on the matter.

    Here’s the thing about rice water. Whenever I would peel potatoes the thick white starchy liquid would dry out my skin on my hands and it felt terrible because it left my hands dry and cracked. The idea of putting rice water on my hair didn’t make sense to me. I knew it was going to lead to dry breaking hair.

    One thing I respect about your teaching is that you are encouraging us to think for ourselves and do for self! I have been following #teamnatural trends for over a decade solely because I never knew how to take care of my hair (even when I had a relaxer). KZread was my teacher when I decided to go relaxer-free. I have been researching more about the science of hair, and my mind has been blownnnn by all of the misleading information that was taught by my go-to team natural influencers (not blaming them though. They were getting their money lol). Now that I know better, I’ll do better. Thankfully, after almost 15 years of following #teammatural trends, my hair wasn’t too damaged. Here’s my question: can you post any useful references/resources that will help us with our research (medical journals, studies, etc.)? That would be helpful for me who loves to acquire knowledge.

    The hair typing chart was useless to me! I never understood the hype about it. I have extremely coily, fine and medium density hair. Baby (my hair), loves to drink alot and I had to do research for my hair to find out what works. I took the information and tweak my routine from when I had a relaxer. Since I am natural now I use more products that add moisture. I don't use protein to often because it makes my hair dry and brittle and then it breaks off. Learning how to care for my hair whether relaxed or natural is a journey !

Most of the time when they showing you these wash and go’s and twist outs they are actually going to a professional in between filming . Or if not , 6months later ,they are going to get 4-6inches cut off because their ends are trashed. A lot of the time they need more than that cut off that’s when “The Big Chop to start over” comes in.

    I have a question since companies are taking advantage of the current trends by creating and selling team natural products; do the current cosmology schools teach team natural ideas such as oiling scalp, pre-pooing and spraying water on the hair for detangling?

  • @IamCynDoll

    @IamCynDoll

    No they do not. You don’t get tested on any team natural hacks with the state to get your license it’s not respected in anyway unless you have an instructor that’s follows KZread hacks for fun.

    Hi. 🙃 You asked why does it hurt for some of us to comb our hair. 🤔Well for me, everytime I detangle my hair...even with oil(takes more than an hour or so), it immediately tangles right back again. Then after I finally do get it detangled, and wash & condition it, it immediately tangles back up again. So, that got frustrating and made me dread doing my hair...and i started procrastinated on combing it. I realized though after watching another of your videos why that is. It was one where someone else in the chat was having the same exact problem as me, you told her she had trichonodosis(what we've been calling single strand knots). So, im pretty sure that's what I have. Now I know i need to cut a lot of it off😢 so it will stop tangling & worse and i can comb it without it tangling. I know it will grow back, but it will take a while, and i am impatient. Plus I don't know how i will look with short hair. 😐 Unfortunately where i am, people(my own family & strangers) make a huge deal over long hair & natural texture hair, especially if you've got both. That's why I've been reluctant to cut it. 🙁

  • @RonkeMusic
    @RonkeMusic6 ай бұрын

    I really enjoyed your video. The key points for me were: 1. It’s all about the money. Companies make the most money off people addicted to KZread natural hair trends. Reflecting on this, I realise that relaxed hair just doesn’t line pockets in the same way. It’s all about consumerism. 2. Division is promoted in the black and natural hair community and……you guessed it! It’s a money maker! I suspect a lot of it has to do with traumas and insecurities. The whole Walker typing system is not based on science! However we have run with this. Many even use it as an identity marker - which is quite sad. I feel the goal of most naturals is to have more self love and pride in their hair, to heal past traumas. But, it’s also had a negative effect. It kind of reminds me of people claiming the n word for empowerment. It hurts less because we embrace it. 3) Division has led to an influx of second rate products We are more isolated, encouraged to only use products that other humans with hair on their heads do not use. And we’re probably financially worse off for it.

  • @shushiet6031
    @shushiet60316 ай бұрын

    Now its porosity, which confuses me. I never followed team natural but after all these years of trying, my hair doesn't grow beyond my set lengths & it's less dense than usual, so I did the water test & my hair without product stayed just below the water line but with product sunk even further, some to the middle or the bottom of the glass. My hair gets wet easily while washing it. It detangles smoothly, absorbs creams but not oils. If it's low porosity, because the hair mainly stayed towards the top of the glass of water, then i need to switch up my products & start over again. I just need clarity.

    I’m sorry I wasn’t here for “The Sunday Cafe” remark. The hair typing chart was a matrix Andre Walker made to sell his hair care line. I’m from Chicago, and remember when he created it. He was Oprah’s hairstylist. Oprah never said “I have 4C hair, you should use this”. Actually she had him on her show but never did promotion for him, never. Andre never talked about porosity, follicle health, hair shaft health, protein, none of it. Not to mention he knew because Oprah’s hair got healthier and grew. But teaching the science of hair wouldn’t sell his hair care line.
