You probably already know this by now... The picture she shows in the very beginning of the wild looking guy with the bone thru his upper lip is "Screamin' Jay Hawkins"...he wrote and first performed this song in 1955 and Angelina is pretty much matching his arrangement.

That little girl has no fear, no filters, she doesn't give a sh.. what people think about her when she sings, that why it's magic. Ho, that little girl is now over 6 feet tall, lol.

Best I can describe her, and you'll see why.... Classically elegant with grace, poise and humility while she rips your heart out.

Yes, this has become a classic on its own. Here, Angelina, at 9 yrs 2 mos old, has captured the essence of the original song by Screamin' Jay Hawkins in 1956 in her arrangement. In the intro you can see her writing out and passing last-minute changes to the arrangement to a member of the band. They may have gone in that day and been taken aback by playing for a nine-year-old, but by the end of the day they were calling her, "The Boss." After auditioning for Norway's Got Talent at seven and winning it at eight, she was literally a professional by age 9! Now, at fifteen, she has written 5 songs, sung two written for her, and covered about 135 other songs of 70 different artists. She is signed to Republic Records. She is the real deal.

As you’ll hear, her voice at 7 years old covering Billie Holiday is something you’ve never heard before. And now in her early teens, she is, without any reservation, the best singer I’ve ever heard. I've had to listen and watch this three times to believe what I'm seeing and hearing. A 10 year old with the vocal range, soul and control of seasoned jazz singer? I going to have to punch myself in the kisser to make sure I'm not dreaming this.

LOL... I see a reaction to this girl, singing this song, and I stop everything I'm doing and just sit back and listen, and watch the face of the reactor. As is the case 99.9% of the time, I was giggling like a little girl and wiping away the happy tears running from my eyes. I've been following this young lady for around 6 years now, and have listened to all of her songs dozens of times, so now, I look for reactors just discovering her, and I become one of their subscribers, to watch their journey. Actually, Angelina was 9 years and 2 months in this video. The arrangement is her own, the candle she was holding was Screamin' Jay Hawkins, the original singer of this back in 1956. She is barefoot because when she was 6, she was on vacation in the Middle East with her Grandma, and met a girl about her own age, weighing people on scales to try to earn money. Angelina befriended this homeless orphan girl, and when seeing her scarred, bare feet, Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl said she would pray for Angelina each day, and Angelina made a promise to herself that she would never wear shoes in public while singing, to remember this girl and bring awareness to all the children in need. Angelina has the natural ability to create better arrangements and then sing it better than the original. She is a true music prodigy but with a set of skills unlike any before her. Angelina is an even better person, humble and filled with empathy. Please take the time to read the biography I compiled for my all time favorite musical artist. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman, who has chosen to keep his life private. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age after listening to Whitney Houston on KZread. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet and married a Japanese man who passed away in 2019. Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farsi, English and Japanese. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where she received vocal training starting around age 4. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. Angelina asked her mother to enter her in Norway’s Got Talent (NGT) at age 5 but that talent show had a minimum age requirement of 7. Angelina at age 6 and 7 did record a few songs in a recording studio, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. Angelina is blessed with a deep voice with a beautiful rich tone and has always made her sound much older than her age. Many compare her voice to that of Amy Winehouse. Her voice is highly emotional which is very rare for a young girl and some people can’t accept that such a soulful voice can come from someone who has not had enough life experience. One vocal coach on KZread recently said, “If you have a song and want to have more emotion added to that song, have Angelina sing it.” At age 7, Angelina’s audition on NGT was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. You may think this an exaggeration but listen to more of her many performances (125+ covers plus original songs - all on YT) and you will see! It is the rare singer that can, as Angelina has done, go from Queen to "Screamin" Jay Hawkins to Adele to Elvis to Whitney Houston to Etta James to Amy Winehouse (and many others in between) and do them all justice! If you want to hear music, listen to anyone. If you want to feel music, listen to Angelina. She will stagger you with her ability to find and bring forth the 'essence', the emotional message of nearly any song. You have far to go with Angelina. Most of the times he performed the song rising from a coffin in a voodoo style. Angelina is Norwegian, her full name is Angelina Jordan Astar. Her father is Swedish, her mother is Norwegian from a Japanese father and Iranian Mother Mery Zamani who is a poet and a painter and was a child prodigy in her own rights. She started singing at the age of one and a half when she fell in love with Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”. She chooses all her own songs & does all her own arrangements ever since she was very young, even when she did Screaming Jay Hawkins “I put a spell on you”, at barely 9, even at 7 & 8 on NGT (Norway’s Got Talent). On “I put a spell on you” Angie said it in an interview (when she was around 10 at interview) about this song: “It means love Desperate love. Even though I've been following her since she seven years , I'm still amazed at how she can take any song and "make it her own".no matter who sang before. As an older black person, I'm at a loss for words to describe what she does with this song.

When she actually became 10yo her age was no longer an issue IMHO. Her voice from that age is just so amazingly beautiful and developed she can stand tall besides anybody.. 😊 I sign up for more Angelina.. Please you must react to "The Teskey Brothers" "Rain"... from The Colors Show. You will be absolutely blown away with the soul from this Australian band. Think of Otis Redding reincarnated. These guys are possibly the very best modern day soul music today. The Band is two brothers and two friends. The lead singer is Josh Teskey. You have to trust me on this..! BTW, I love your reactions.. So heart felt and honest.

She typically doesn't sing more of this kind of songs, because she was told to preserve her voice. So I'm waiting for her to get older and for her voice to mature completely to hear a comeback of this singing style! For now, she is honing her skills, diversify herself, so that she will be able to tackle any of the most challenging songs in the future. In this journey, she is taking us along with her through her many beautiful and unique renditions~

Certainly not many adults know him, certainly the only girl in the world who knows him and who also thinks of singing him without any fear is she. This is Angelina, the incredible magical little girl. It's incredible that this adaptation is all her own (the sheets written) and that at that age she was able to evaluate and transform, according to her sensitivity, such a particular and powerful song 😊 ❤️ This is probably the best reinterpretation made by a singer in over 60 years of this song.
