This is the "Screamin'" Joe Hawken's arrangement he recorded while drunk. (No, not kidding.) He didn't even remember recording it. To get to Angelina, we are talking some deep jazz roots; torch songs if you will. Back to Julie London and alike. She is not competing with anyone alive; she is channeling their sound. Angelina Jordan is a music prodigy she started singing at age of 1.5 years and more than that she started with Billy Holiday Jazz. Angelina speaks 3 languages, designs her own clothes, and has written a very popular book called "Mellom to hjerter" (Between Two Hearts) a story about why she wears no shoes during her performances, and like her name she truly is an angel with a heart of gold. Angelina won Norway's got talent she started the competition at 7 years old and won at 8 years old. AJ is definitely the best singer alive today, i'm from India and Jazz is not even my kind of music, i prefer something else entirely different than any western music, i stumbled upon one of her songs by chance and was completely blown away by her.

She is a real talent and i think being from Norway gives her confidence because of her simple uncommercial back ground that she lives in and nothing seems to phase her. She's following Screamin' Jay Hawkins' original arrangement and uses her own vocal skills, which he never had.

@@karolyn8644 Yes, I think the point that people try to make is that his rendition of this was more theatrical. There is a story that the producer brought in food and beers when he first recorded it, they got a little drunk, but it proved very popular... Angelina tried to do a more musical version, but still with the passion of the original.

I think what SJ Hawkins did was parody the opera genre, mocking it's ritualistic style, since as a black man in the USA in the 1950's he was never allowed on stage though he'd done all the training and had the voice. I think Angelina's interpretation expresses his outrage perfectly, though how she came to that at her age is a mystery. Grandma Mery?

This was her production. The paper she handed the band manager at the beginning were her 'requests' for changes she wanted the individual band members to make. The band members affectionately call her 'the Boss'. A child prodigy, she has been arranging the music she sings since she was 7. The recording contract she signed a few months ago gives the 15 year old singer complete control over all of her recordings.

Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. Angelina at age 6 and 7 did record a few songs in a recording studio, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 6 or 7 year old. Angelina is blessed with a deep voice with a beautiful rich tone and has always made her sound much older than her age. Many compare her voice to that of Amy Winehouse. Her voice is highly emotional which is very rare for a young girl and some people can’t accept that such a soulful voice can come from someone who has not had enough life experience. One vocal coach on KZread recently said, “If you have a song and want to have more emotion added to that song, have Angelina sing it.” At age 8, (please refer to replies by erik to a comment I made on JHTreacts video on 6/7/21 who provides proof Angelina had already turned 8) Angelina’s audition on NGT was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. The next performance on NGT was her cover of Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on KZread went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. On June 27, 2018 Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. Angelina performed on America’s Got Talent The Champions which aired in January 2020. leif I don't know where you get your information, but you need to find a reliable source....She's been singing (she called it "mumbling") since she was 1 1/2. She began searching KZread for her favorite artists when she was 3. Her grandmother does not sing (she's an artist who was a child prodigy). Neither parent is a musician. Her father is in the oil and gas industry and her mother's involvement in the music industry is only as it relates to Angelina's career. She sang for the Nobel peace prize concert at age 8. She has incredible range and absolute control. Does her own arrangements. I fell hopelessly and completely in love with this angel, the very first time I heard her, which was on AGT at 13. Doing Bohemian Rhapsody, by Queen. Truly amazing. She reminds me of the late Eva Cassidy, in the way she covers the well known songs. You would know the title, and think I know how this will sound, and then your jaw hits the ground when she does the song. She does it her way, and makes it like a brand new song, heard for the first time. This girl will go places, if producers don't try to tell her what they want, but let her do her thing. As far as I am concerned, she is number one over ANY singer known today.

@@shanialover If she is 5 foot 4 then I am a towering giant of 7 foot 7 whereas, in reality, I am a mere 5 foot 8. Do a search, and you will find pictures of Angelina with other people whose height is known to be near 6 ft, and she is taller than they are.

@@shanialover sometimes you need to ignore google and engage with reality. If you search google for Meeting Angelina Jordan, there is a video by React to the World from 2019 when she was thirteen. Not only is she clearly much taller then the interviewers, but they she she’s 6 foot tall to her face, and when she walks away she’s wearing trainers, so no high heels.

She was 10 years old here. She is now 15. At 7-8 years old she won Norway’s Got Talent. She sang Billy Holiday and Sinatra. She grew up singing jazz and though she sings more popular covers now. As a former champion (Norway) she participated in America’s GotTalent the Champions in 2019 when she was 13. I suggest you listen to her version of Bohemian Rhapsody that she sang and got the Golden Buzzer for another AGT Chapions.

According to her, she began singing at the ripe age of 1 and a half years old. At about 4 or 5 years old, she began begging her parents, to let her try out for "Simon's show", as she put. They finally relented, and allowed her to try out for Norway's Got Talent. As she has stated many times; She won Norway's Got Talent at 7 years old, with songs like "Summertime" and "Gloomy Sunday". At the end of the final, it was announced that she had garnered 46% of the vote total, with the other nine finalists combining for the remaining 54%. It wasn't even close. Angelina always performs barefoot, as a reminder of the millions of impoverished children in the world, This began one day, on the way to a performance. She found herself talking to a similarly aged little girl on the street, weighing people for bits of change, and noticed she was barefoot. She asked, and her mom explained the less fortunate. Moments later, Angelina gave her new little friend, the shoes she had been wearing, and they embraced. It's my understanding, that they still stay in touch. Angelina has already raised millions for various children's charities. Angelina does all of her own arrangements, writes, composes, sews and designs most of the frocks she performs in. 😉😊✌

She is a generational talent

Angelina Jordan was 9 years old when this song was recorded. It was a tribute to Screamin Jay Hawkins who was quite a character. Most of the times he performed the song rising from a coffin in a voodoo style. Angelina is Norwegian, her full name is Angelina Jordan Astar. Her father is Swedish, her mother is Norwegian from a Japanese father and Iranian Mother Mery Zamani who is a poet and a painter and was a child prodigy in her own rights. She started singing at the age of one and a half when she fell in love with Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”. A year later she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and showed lot of interest in artists like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, and Louis Armstrong. Angelina pestered her mother to enter her in “Simons Show” as she called it from the age of 3. Her mother relented and entered her in Norway Got Talent at the age of 7 where she auditioned with Billie Holiday’s Gloomy Sunday. She went ahead to win the the big prize at the finals where she received 46% of the votes while the remaining 9 finalists combined received 54%. Angelina said she likes singing because she wants to bring joy and love to the whole world. One of her dreams from a very young age was to sing at the Nobel Peace Prize concert. She accomplished that at the age of 8 singing Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World. After winning NGT, she was flooded with offers from major music labels as well as Disney but they were all turned down by her and her family in order for her to continue her education and to protect her artistic integrity. Her uncle/manager in an interview last year he talked about music labels top executives who would fly to Norway on private jets with huge contracts offers but would leave mad and frustrated because they never expected being turned down. Angelina is fluent in Norwegian as well as in English. She also speaks some Swedish which is very close to Norwegian and probably learned it from her father. She also speaks Farsi which she learned from her grandmother as well as some Japanese that she picked up from her grandfather as well as her mom and uncle who lived for a period of time in Japan. She actually performed a Japanese song at a concert in Japan. Most of her performances after NGT were for charitable children organizations where she helped to raise millions. At the age of 6 and while travelling in another country with her family, she came across a young orphaned shoeless girl who was weighing people on a bathroom scale for some coins in order to support herself and her siblings. After chatting with her for a while and without prompting from her family, she gave her shoes to the orphan girl. She recorded that incident in her diary and vowed to always sing barefoot when doing that in public to remember that girl and to remind herself and us about the many needy children around the world. At the age of 9 she wrote and published a book about that encounter making her Norway’s youngest published author. Proceeds from that book are donated to children charities. Angelina Jordan has about 140 songs in her repertoire. Late last year she signed with Republic Records as their highest priority new artist. Her versatility is unmatched. A first time reaction to Angelina is always priceless - she is actually even better than it seems after 1 video - simply because she can sing anything.... In my (and most of the viewers) opinion, she is a generational talent, probably the best singer born in the 2000s (And many of us are older than most reactors). This is easier to appreciate when watching some more material from her :-)

She was 9 years old in this video. If you want to see her at 7 years old, you can. She auditioned for Norway's Got Talent at 7, and she won after her 8th birthday. She sang Billie Holiday's Gloomy Sunday, bringing the judges to tears.
