    Seems to me that you are not doing enough to be impactful to other people. Some jobs have more of an impact than others and you can do things to be impactful. You allow yourself to be alone rather than paying it forward. Pay it forward and you will feel a sense of satisfaction and purpose. Volunteering and religion can help you. I am not a religious nut, but finding a religion to hold onto and do noble things for people allow you to feel good and noble. You become part of the community rather than just a passive person.

    You focus too much on the burdens of life and not enough of gratitude. I go to bed hugging my pillows. thanking god for even allowing me to lay here , with a roof over my head, with a climate controlled room and a tv for entertainment. I look back at all the Emperors,pharoh's , kings, queens, all the elite of history... and remind myself i am living in better comfort then they ever did ! I am experiencing this amazing thing of just simply laying in bed hugging a warm blanket. I get a smile on my face and can feel the brain releasing feel good chemicals.

    There is a phenomenon called ACEs: adverse childhood experiences. Children who grow up with abuse, neglect, or chaos in their lives have much higher rates of disease in adulthood. Throwing an antidepressant at them will not do enough when a depressed person has unresolved traumatic issues. Telling a patient who was sexually abused as I was that just a pill will fix them is just plain wrong.

    Depression is like a demon punishing us for giving up on life. I just want to live in peace and die. Most of the time I do not want to fight, grow or expand anymore, I'm tired. Even if I get out of this, I will resent people and the world for not accepting me before, or for not finding the solution before (if any).

    Demon is your ego. People don't accept you because you don't accept yourself. You don't accept yourself because your ego created your image of success, prosperity and happiness but you look at reality and it sucks. That misalignment causes depression. Take that image created by your thoughts put it right in front of you and observe it. Let it suffer. Just keep looking at it. As soon as you recognize it as not you, you will be free.

    Depression, oversimplified, is nothing more than the feeling/notion of entrapment. Figuring out what is causing that entrapment and changing your life to remove it will release you from the cycle. Anxiety will cause you to fear the unknown... much like Stockholm syndrome. Humans fear change they do not know and in most cases, that fear immobilizes them to act on the change. Overcoming your fears is the first step to releasing your depression. The farmer story was simply a man who felt trapped in his lifestyle... it wasn't until someone else forced a change in his life that he was able to live without the cause of his agony and pain. The farmer felt trapped and could not escape his life until someone else changed it. This would be a natural way to treat depression and everyone can achieve it if they can identify what is making them feel entrapped in their lifestyle. In time, your brain adapts and becomes custom to your chemical releases from your synapses. If you regularly think negative thoughts, your brain releases chemicals that influence that (cortisol, Serotonin, ect...), and in time it craves those chemicals. Antidepressants will mask our depression superficially for a while, but the compounding chemical releases will return. It will not be until you change your life to cut out the things that are making you feel trapped, that you will find true blissful happiness.

    I have experienced depression since I was 10 years old. None of the expressions or explanations of depression in this comment section have rung true to me. Depression, to me, is the overwhelming feeling of doom, peril, and anxiety, for no apparent reason. If feels like there is no way to escape these feelings; suicide often seems like the only way to get relief. So don't judge the person who can no longer live with the depression.

    I did have severe depression. I was referred to a Chinese doctor who had a reputation of curing hard cases. She asked me about my diet. I told her that I had developed asthma attacks after eating eggs, and that this had never happened before. She smiled and gave me a presciption for antibiotics, a lot of them, and told me I would be okay in three days. Three days later, my depression was gone. It has never come back either. I called her and asked her why antibiotics cured me. She said she suspected it was due to bad gut bacteria, and that the antibiotics killed them. She also said that the eggs/asthma connection gave her the clue.

Going down the chemical rabbit hole is a dead end. Sometimes we just need a cow to solve an underlying practical issue to take away the pain.

    Self discipline can help with alot. Most mental illness exist because we feel like we are not in control. Set small goals like cleaning your room everyday, exersize routine, reading at certain times. Ect. The more control you have over your life the better you will feel about yourself. You don't have time to blame how people didn't treat you right ect nobody is coming to save you.

    "Love for multiplicity vs. Love for unity" is what the depression comes from. We live in the world of multiplicity, Loving it changes man from unity into multiplicity like all dimensions to converge toward zero in time in the lacking of unity. Beauty is Truth, and Truth is Beauty. Learning aesthetic from Nature can rejuvenate hope and wellness in depressed individuals. Not wanting and not having make one brazen-bodied. Other treatments are business-centered do not provide permanent solutions.

    Depression comes from not having our needs met… (I heard someone say the other day & it clicked…!!!!) doesn’t it ? The issue of depression (and anxiety) is really quite political then when you start to think about it, isn’t it ?

    ¨Depression comes from not having our needs met… (I heard someone say the other day & it clicked…!!!!) doesn’t it ?¨ This is a very similar idea to what the video talks about. You could think of not having your needs met as having pain. When there's pain, your needs are not being met. The video tells us to listen to the pain to try to find the root problem to try to fix it. If you find the root of the problem and fix it, this will in return solve the pain and your needs will be met.

    The way you want to BE just doesn’t show up as possible in the present. But the present demands you be concerned with it. The past shows up as how you feel about the present. You need to feel yourself in this situation and choose while feeling that way. No dialogue, no verbal justification, I just found myself feeling that way. Give no justification to anyone, they are the ones lost in the “chat”, you are the self, you felt your way to a decision. This technological age with all its demands for rational justification is killing us! FEEL your throwness and your certain eventual death, and choose from how you feel.

    I feel like a part of me doesn't enjoy wealth (not that I have loads) because I know not everyone has it and that means you either have to lie to yourself that you're better or more deserving, numb it out, or somehow manage to share the money. I do not think spending money on myself after basic things makes me happy. What makes me happy is helping a lost stranger or connecting deeply with a friend

    Choises young boys do in their childhood affects their teens and adult life; they get erectile dysfunction, this in turn leads to depression! I wonder, can antidepressants like Wellbutrin or prozac help against the erectile dysfunction?

    EGO is the cause of depression. Your ego keeps telling you that you have to be this or that, have this or that when the reality is opposite. So stop feeding your ego with thoughts. Stop living in illusions aka thoughts. Recognize your thoughts as your ego. Depression is simply mental, it is just your thoughts that do not correlate with reality. stop thoughts, commenting every event in the past and in the future. expecting something from others, all of that is your ego.

    I quite disagree with him. First, he's not a doctor let alone an expert in that field. He's a journalist. Secondly, the solution he thought can't really cure it for most, because some depressed people have a good job, but still depressed.

  • @Kryptdegen

    @Kryptdegen

    It's not about the job it's about asking what can we do to help you and genuinely want to help or write down some stuff that can help. Pills are a bandaid on a wound. For example if you're depressed cause you feel burnt out from school, bullying, girlfriend cheating, lack of confidence, or you just can't put it to words since it's many things a pill won't really help address the issue. A good supportive system and brainstorming solutions is more important. You have to listen to the person, they'll tell you what they're feeling and it might take a bit of guessing or brainstorming to find what can or how it can be helped

  • @lydiamcneill7818

    @lydiamcneill7818

    Yeah it's got nothing to do with the job. It's about having an unmet need. Also, the problem with having a qualification in Pyschology or being a doctor is that the base assumptions are sometimes wrong. I.e. the base assumption that the issue is in your mind. Having a lack of serotonin in your brain was a leading cause of depression was actually pushed by.. you guessed it, pharmaceutical companies.
