These Rookie Mistakes Could Ruin Your Season!

Спорт

Deer hunting as a beginner can be very frustrating. There are a lot of mistakes you're going to make, which is completely normal and expected. Even "veteran" hunters make mistakes all the time. What you want to avoid are the obvious ones that if you had just known that would be a mistake, you wouldn't have done it. In this video we are going over three more beginner hunting mistakes that I learned the hard way, so you don't have to.

Lol TRUST ME you’ll only make this mistake once if not at all. But if you are using deer urine spray especially Tink’s Gel Urine the one that shoots A 10 FOOT STREAM! Please make sure when you twist the cap to the on position that the end that fires urine out it’s not facing you 🤦🏽. Last year during peak rut I got in my stand an hour before daylight. Well after getting situated I pulled out my can of deer estrus to spray down the tree I was in and do a few shots in different directions for cover scent and also lure a buck in. So with it still being dark so when I twisted the cap I didn’t realize that I was on the wrong end, so yeah…. I blasted myself in the face with doe piss! 😳😵‍💫🤢🤮. It was pretty intense agonizing and disgusting really quick I could barely open my eyes because they were burning so bad and stinging it took everything I had not to puke all over myself plus my nose was running like a water faucet I tried my best to stay and hunt but that shit wasn’t happening. When I walked in the house my wife said oh wow that was quick so you got one? Then she said why are your eyes so red and as she walked towards me the smell of doe urine hit her in the face like a cloud of mustard gas she started gagging and yelled oh my God I told her what happened and she literally had tears on her face from laughing so hard after she spit her coffee out of her mouth.

Solid advice. I think there's a tendency, especially at the beginning of the season, to rush to a familiar stand.

When you shoot a deer do not jump out of the stand and go to it. Sit for 20 or 30 minutes and let it lay and bleed. Otherwise it could jump and run. I made that mistake when I was a young hunter and it cost me a nice trophy buck.

When it's cold out I always leave my jacket open for the entire walk-in, you're cold on the way in but you don't sweat and once you get up in your stand you zip up and it's much much better

Another great video. As a new hunter entering my third season (one doe and no bucks yet) harvested, I truly appreciate your honest and layman's explanations on topics. I always get really excited when I get the alert that you've posted a new video. Thanks again.

Another reason to not hunt low percentage days....mental aspect. As a new hunter it can be mentally discouraging to hunt all day multiple days and not see deer. Causing you to lose desire and miss higher percentage days.

another great video! one other thing i would add regarding the walk to the stand is that it is best to keep some of you outer layers off when walking to the stand and only put them on just before getting in the stand. you will significantly reduce sweating and wont get cold as easily. it also helps a lot to go to the bathroom before you go out to hunt. any urine or poop in your body is just more that your body needs to keep warm. finally, skip the coffee and drink water when you wake up. it'll get you metabolism going and you wont feel the need to take a shit in the woods the second you get settled in the stand.....again why you go beforehand.

This might sound weird, but one time in class, we were watching a movie the whole period. During that period, I watched a video on how to skin a rabbit. I made a full guide on how to skin a rabbit for 2 hours in school 😂. I even drew pictures.

Good advice on the social media stuff. If you measure your performance by the giant buck another ‘hunter’ posted on social media, you’ll likely be disappointed. That person might be a great hunter, might have been lucky, or he/she might have paid big $$$ to shoot that buck scoring over 200. You never really know…
