    What would you suggest for late season December hunting. I am in school and will not have time until December and will only be able to hunt public land in the appilacians in Virginia

    I don’t know if Virginia DNR does any food plots on their ground but I would look for those. Any places that border private ag would be good as well, along with any places that have been logged in recent years. You can call your local DNR office and ask, or if you have a premium onX subscription they have some overlays of public ground that will give you some food information.

    Just found you, I'm from Mark Twain Lake area, probably not far from you. 2 things; the rut for us was perfect, lot if action, and second, our area suffered little or no EHD. We didn't lose a single target buck. Was it same in your area?

  • @InformedOutdoors

    Yes there was a lot of good rutting activity, except I didn’t see any of our target bucks. The bedding on our property is severely lacking, something we are going to be focusing heavily on this off-season. We’ve been lucky to avoid EHD too

    I’m a new Subscriber to your channel and I know scent control is important.... But I often hunt Public land and Military Bases Where Humans are CONSTANTLY walking / pooping / smoking / living right amongst The Whitetails,and they’re still doing their thing in these areas. How does this affect Deer and their daily lives?

  • @InformedOutdoors

    I think it’s still important because the deer would typically learn which areas to avoid and when. Just because they are used to smelling humans and their activity doesn’t mean they will present themselves for a shot if they smell a human in the woods.

    How would you deal with somebody stealing your trail camera

  • @InformedOutdoors

    @InformedOutdoors

    I’ve set up cameras watching other cameras before. Works great if you can identify the person in the photo. Public land is kind of hard because they could live anywhere so the chances of identification are slim.

    I’d set up the camera thing then. Whoever is trespassing is most likely from the area. Also make sure the property is secure and marked. Give him the opportunity to return the camera and if he doesn’t turn it in to the sheriff.

    Do you think painting the property post purple and sitting out tripwires would do anyting

  • @InformedOutdoors

    @InformedOutdoors

    3 жыл бұрын

    The purple paint and no trespass signs will help if you catch and report him. As far as trip wires it would all depend on what’s on the end of them. I probably wouldn’t do it because you could run in to legal troubles if anything were to happen.

    Here’s my 3 tips that could have made your video more useful = 1. There’s no such thing as a nocturnal deer 2. Doe’s don’t come In estrous late. They come in estrous every 28-30 days year round. 3. I don’t care if it’s March, if a doe comes into heat and she hasn’t been successfully bred yet any Buck is gonna attempt to breed her.

    Hell ya.. nicely said. Rut or not the deer are still there, they don't hibernate. You want to fill a tag and having trouble? hunt where no one else will. ten feet from the parking lot or 500 yards, think outside the box!

    Kind of agree. 98%-99% of our 12 cell cams running on 105ac. ALL night photos 1-2% daylight pics and very few bucks daylight. Hmmm? Do as much scent control as possible and have wind in 3 different directions within 3-4 hours. Do you stay or go? Right place….Right time…that’s what matters. Sometimes wrong could go right.

    I’m assuming you mean the acorns? They are high in carbs (about 40%) and fats (about 50%). I should’ve mentioned fats as something they’re after as well.
