His metric stats were ahead of Giannis’ during the same years in their careers, plus Giannis said he was the only person who was in the gym as much as him, and he was taller and had a better 3pt shot than Giannis. If coach Sweeny never left for Detroit, maybe they get more potential out of him, but no one thought he was definitely going to be an MVP just that he had the possible potential maybe to be a 2nd Giannis with a little more height and better 3pt shot.

There are many “stars” in the NBA right now but we don’t even know it because basketball, even starting all the way from high school is based solely off of opportunity, politics, and coaching. These players just haven’t been on the right teams and haven’t been given the opportunity to prove themselves. It sucks to think about because it happens all the time and only so many players can be given the spotlight.

True, prime Draymond Green was a star and DPOY, but If he was drafted by someone else I don't think they would use 100% of his potential. I think same goes for Jokic. Different team wouldnt see his potential and wouldnt use 100% of his skill.

This is a bit of a long story so I’ll shorten it: I had the same coach for about 5 years. Just because I was bigger than everyone else, I was put in the paint. It was dumb. We were ALL taught how to shoot, and even if I was out-shooting some of the smaller guys, they would be out on the perimeter and I was put in the paint just because I was bigger and they were smaller. Eventually that coach decided to change up his practice style, so I was barely taught how to shoot and defend the perimeter. For the last 2-3 years, I’ve basically had to teach myself how to shoot, pass, and defend the perimeter.

So my dad works with someone who had a husband that worked for the wolves at the time in the front office. This was when they got the #1 pick. The reason she said that they took KAT was the individual workouts. Okafor came in with an entire group of 20+ of his friends and didn’t take it too seriously while KAT showed up with his Dad, was very quiet, asked questions about Minnesota and wanted to just work on basketball. This made Saunders fall in love with him and it’s what made the decision.

This is actually why I find LeBron impressive. He had more fame in high school than Okafor did his entire career, yet he never let it impact his game. And on the other end I find shaq impressive for the opposite, he never gave his 100 to perfecting all aspects of the game, never tried to pass or shoot yet hes one of the greatest. I can only imagine he'd be the goat if he did. Okafor should've realised he's not shaq, but I guess the reports and articles got to his head.

I don't know why, but the mental and "will" aspect of the game is so damn underrated. Look at Giannis. We knew he had raw talent, but NO ONE thought he'd be one of the greatest players of all time. But he has elite work ethics and pure determination to get better each and every day. A lot of players have the physical tools to be great but it doesn't happen because they don't have the mentality or work ethic to get there and it's just sad. Mentality can go a LOOOOONG in aiding a player to go from good to great

100% disagree that Jahlil Okafor could have become a HOFer in the 80s or 90s. He can't rebound, is not athletic, can't defend the rim, and doesn't have a consistent mid range jumper. Every Allstar center in the 90s could do at least one of those things. Rik Smits is the closest to him in terms of lack of all around skills, but even Smits could hit consistently hit the mid range jumper and was better at defending the rim than Jahlil. Rik Smits could probably have averaged 20+ multiple times, but his lack of rebounding, mobility and rim protection kept him from getting star minutes. Jahlil would not get enough minutes, period.

the argument of Bagley not improving much in 3 years is the same argument you can say about Ben Simmons after 4 years. He's still young and raw, but nonetheless I'm impressed with his maturity not demanding teams with what he wants and only asked to be put on the G-league just so he could play more and hone his craft even though he'll earn less there.
