That intro hit close to home.. I used to race motocross and would routinely break bones. Never took pain-meds except once and that one time was a genuinely bad injury. They worked and I forgot how much pain I was in.. then I stopped taking them and became violently ill, incapable of sleep, hot and cold, highly anxious and in more pain than before I took them. I was fucking 16 and when I told the doctor what was happening he literally said, “oh, yeah you are going through opioid withdrawal.” At no point was that possibility mentioned and it would lead me to struggle with addiction for the following 4 years. This shit fucked up my life for a long time and I’m still pissed about it.

My mum was prescribed doxys for her depression and the doctor's never told her that it was only for short term. She ended up being on it for a year or so and her dosages doubled, she was at the point where it didn't do anything anymore so she went cold turkey. No research or doc told her too, she went about three days without side effects and then it hit like a buss. She spent weeks in bed crying and begging to die, it was a tough time. She's past it now, that was about four years ago but I cant believe doctors are so lax with these drugs!!

@@amberruby4896 Oh, yeah, it's wild what doctors just _don't_ tell patients, even though it's their responsibility as the prescriber. A doctor in my hometown got my grandmother addicted to benzos. As in, he kept advising her to take more and was like "oh sure, it's fine to take them with a glass of wine!" (it's not). The same doctor also carelessly injured me as a child (not major, but enough that my mom switched docs). It turned out he'd had a _bunch_ of complaints filed against him over the years, no clue how he still had a job- I suppose, like us, nobody had enough money to launch a court case. I'm glad your mom and the OP are doing better, this country is such a mess when it comes to medicine.

She's been on all types antidepressants and mood stabilisers her whole life so she knew that she shouldn't be taking them for as long as she had been, that why in the end she decided to go off them herself. She just never went in for another dosage, which also should have alerted the doctor's because it's so dangerous to do yourself. Anyways it's in the past, but it's so sad that there's so many similar cases, these are as the video said 'legal heroin' , it should be handled with so much more care. I was on that shit for 8 years, went off them cold turkey because the alternative was taking Valium. That shit took away priceless things from me and made me a monster that I regret every day. The saddest part of it all is that I found the same relief with marijuana. But because it was illegal and the government couldn't profit off it, they would make me have clean piss tests to keep receiving opioids. Now it's the opposite in Canada and I'm even more frustrated because it was all about them not being able to make money from marijuana in the early 2000s. One of the symptoms of depression is not having any energy to do anything and when you treat depression that’s one of the things your trying to stop, if you have suicidal thoughts but no energy to act on them the meds can sometimes in giving you more motivation it can leave the thoughts and it can just give ppl the energy they didn’t have to off themselves. That’s why doctors warn abt this with antidepressants. Antidepressants are’t sketchy, I’d say they help more than they hurt to be honest. Her upstairs neighbours who she was friends with thought she was slipping into dementia. Then she remembered the Chantix and started researching the side effects on her own and blam. She told me the entire story it was whack. I live across the street and this was going on for weeks but she didn't even mention it. What a trooper ! Finally she went into the underground parkade and got in her car closed the door and she said when she still hear the "music " she started crying and laughing because she knew she wasn't losing it like her Father , my Grandfather . Even after she stopped the effects lasted for a few months but she was able to kinda block it out. As a funny side note i caught her smoking the other day after she quit 5 years ago. Good times.

Yeah you're lying bout something no doctor would just not give someone 35mgs of oxy as a one off dose. A one off dose of oxy is 5-15mgs at the max and usually they will give weaker opioids like hydrocodone or tylenol with codeine. Hell im surprised they gave you oxy straight out of the gate since i would imagine that for a one off thing they would much rather prefer to give you an nsaid or something that isn't that addicitng since there is nothing to indicate you needed such a high dose without having build up a tolerance to it previously.

(in USA) When I was 17, I was homeless and had a type of state health insurance for minors that essentially made any services or medicines prescribed in the ER completely covered. I had bronchitis that turned to pneumonia, and was allowed to walk out of the ER with a 16 oz bottle of codeine. I live in the worlds largest clown tent, the USA. Very endlessly thankful for the insurance, not very thankful for the 10 years of struggling to control myself around sedatives that has followed.

My mom had a messed up surgery and is now in pain 24/7, weed and other alternatives make her anxious and dont work. Many people abuse strong painkillers, but some people absolutely need them. Ever since the epidemic started her meds have been cut and her ability to do normal things has gone away. I wish that she got the treatment that she needs to not live in pain and others wouldnt mess that up for her and her family.

In small doses that are managed regularly by your doctor, and not increasing the dose it doesn’t make you a zombie. Some ppl have pain conditions where they need pain medicine I’ve been on the same lowest possible dose of opioid twice a day for 5 years and I’m more of a zombie without my medication bc that’s what severe pain does to your brain. Ive never been high on my medication. Not everyone does well with narcotics. Some ppl can’t manage the dose and need to increase or have addictive personalities. It’s definitely not for everyone. But not everyone who uses narcotic pain meds is high or addicted or a zombie. There are ppl with genetic medical conditions that cause even the most mundane actions like swallowing liquid to be agonizingly painful. Many of them need pain medicine.

@@ENT683Yes it's sad that pain patients are paying the price for the opiod epidemic. I mean - opiate use in the west started growing in the 60's, homelessness is on the rise, little or no mental health support - drug use is obviously increasing. To suggest that pharmaceutical meds, as horrific as they are, have been the major cause of drug abuse in the west is incorrect. The problem is big pharma can't come up with a painkiller that works better than opium.

It gets way higher due to tolerance of course but popping a 30 every morning when you wake up, and lets be real probably at least one or two more at the end of her day for sleep, that is going to set in very intense addiction before her first script is even out. Horrible horrible. Not to mention that the fentanyl m box 30s, or the "blues", that have taken over the countries opiate addicts almost entirely are molded to look like an Oxy 30 mg. Just a bit of added horrifying irony there. Source: trust me, Im one of those opiate addicts that has fallen to the Fentanyl 30s. Its all absolutely zero fun

Just reading other comments here about people taking medication to quit smoking, then having auditory hallucinations, or just being given opioids without any real warninh sounds insane to me. I really hope things like these "medications" become illegal ASAP, but you know that the people controlling things are the ones making tons of money off this BS, so they will probably keep being sold and given out like candy. I was on morphine until I tripped one too many balls then I was moved to Oxycodone up until my recovery. I was prone to active night terrors of varying severity and straight up delirium. I had points where I was putting soy sauce from a pot noodle into a coffee, putting on odd shoes and an accidental dislocation here and there. Hands down fun if you don't need to anything while on them, down right stupid to let people use them at home.

A very important point you bring up. I think it's important to distinguish between the medicine itself and the pharmaceutical industry. Medications such as Oxycodone, Fentanyl, Morphine etc are very useful and effective medications and certainly do have legitimate uses in the medical field (Pallative, Severe Chronic Pain that is unresponsive to non opioid analgesia etc.) What the pharmaceutical industry has done is disgusting and has resulted in the deaths of many people. However we in the medical field and the community as a whole need to be careful not to demonise the medications themselves and although it's important to stop drug addicts, pill farms etc, genuinely sick people who are suffering from very real pain need access to whatever treatment is working to help them live a meaningful and valuable life. In my opinion I have seen first hand some situations were genuine patients have paid the price and have been denied their medication as the doctors were being frightened by the government and threatened with sanctions in some cases unfairly. We need to find a good medium that allows genuine patients access to the care they require whilst focusing on harm reduction for addicts and punishment for criminals who abuse the system.

So... Did use Chantix (marketed here in Oz as Champix) to quit for short period before relapsing, and while I hope it helps some people I have pretty conflicted feelings about it. First, a side effect they didn't cover is that when I took it I got stomach cramps, taking with water and/or food was meant to help but it was still pretty unpleasant. And when I say cramp, I mean stabbing pains and a seizing up feeling. The vivid dreams are accurate - I slept like shit for the whole period, and had bizarre dreams I can't remember. There's also anhedonia and mood swings. To be fair, some of these things are just features of quitting, but I took it for three months without smoking (well past the end of physical symptoms) and these symptoms didn't end. All told it was a pretty unpleasant experience,

Everything from not feeling so good to feeling as sick as a dog barfing my stomach out. The dreams where awful sometimes and sometimes I would walked through the room as if I was drunk. It was a really bad experience but it worked. Not only did the drug stopped the workings of nicotine for a while, to stop me smoking, but also the memory of the side-effects I had discourageses me to start again.

This ad made me think about an SNL skit I saw the other day, satirizing these ads. I knew these ads existed but had never actually seen one, and the SNL skit went on for ages and got weirdly over the top. I now realise why. The actual ads are so fucking batshit that if you want to satirise them then you have to go even more over the top. If a British or Australian comedy show tried to make a joke about prescription drug ads that are overly cheery with horrible side effects, they would literally just make this chantix ad. The idea of someone calmly telling you that this drug might make you want to kill yourself with gentle music in the background is already so outrages and hilarious that you wouldn't need to go any further.

when i was diagnosed with Narcolepsy type 1 I got targeted ads for straight amphetamine and adderall. The stuff ruined my mental health for 2 years and I was totally hooked. I had to learn how not only survive off stimulants, but I had to learn to manage my narcolepsy that the medication made worse. The withdrawal often left me crying and shaking for days on end. It was hell. I don't know how they get away with this

My dad used to use Chantix and he actually had the crazy/weird dream side effect and had to stop taking it. I remember him talking in his sleep very clearly and loudly it was insane

I love working for big pharma on commercials...they are so proud and ask if I've seen this one or that one. My favorite part is the face they make when I remind them they pay insane amounts of money to make these commercials and I pay $2 extra to not see any of it.

This is great! Could you do more of the bounty hunter videos?

We'd love to, we're a bit scared though. We had such a big issue with the bounty hunter video. The producers kept trying to push us around with legal stuff because we reacted to their show. We need to get some lawyers if we want to do more of those.

@@dragon_1333 yeah, I reckon it's definitely fair use, but at the end of the day you still need to show up in court to prove it's fair use. It's just up to them whether it's worth their time to push you around. Thanks! We'll keep more videos coming!

The nice music being at such a disparity with side effects being listed and such is definitely still funny to me, and I'm exposed to it quite often. Commercials like that are a good 60% or so of cable TV

Chantix or Champex or whatever is fucked. My friend left her husband after he took it to quit smoking and locked her and the kids out of the house in Canadian winter and had a full breakdown. He was never the same after. He doesn't really go outside much now but on the plus side I'm pretty sure he doesn't smoke anymore

Seeing this it’s actually scary how similar unedited footage of a bear is to actual drug commercials
