I couldn't agree more with you, I have some 65s's paired with sonik xtractor recon 8 ft's, they are fantastic quality, excellent to use and a perfect match All my carp reels (apart from some shimano 4000gt baitrunners) are now Wychwood, as I also have some older riots, solace 10 acs's and dispatch 7500's Whenever I go for a new set I try out all other makes and models but always come back with wychwoods and they NEVER let me down

My mate had the big pit advantas and the reel itself bent playing a fish and the line guard snapped off

The fs 8000 would match up nicely with the new sonik xtractor pro 10ft rods (always full cork) coming out next year. Might just do that as want the 3.5lb with 50mm butt ring so a 8000 reel be just up the right street. And £60 for 8000 fs reel is really good.

What exactly do you like about the big butt ring? I dont think it does give you any advantages on the rod

@@matthewcadle7200 okay i can get that, personally i like rings that are closer to the blank but imo the packing dimension and vulnerability to transport damage defeat any (vague) practical purpose like casting ability(on a 10ft rod lol) anyways

"Pedigree"? Much as I like my JRC kit, the Mitchell MX6 Fullrunner range have a far better pedigree for similar money - they invented the thing! They're also 4+1, also lightweight polymer body and alloy spool, but brilliant line lay and excellent clutch control (even if you don't use the 2nd BR clutch). I suppose these fill the gap between NGT and Mitchell / Shimano, personally I'd still pick the MX6s though for both stalking and distance.

How did Mitchell invent bait/free runners? Shimano invented the concept in the 1980’s, then Daiwa and Abu brought out versions very early 90’s. Since then almost all companies have produced something similar.

@@Backs4more I meant invented the modern open faced reel as opposed to the older centre pin design. I don't know who invented the BR to be honest, but I do know that my Shimano baitrunners are nowhere near as good as my Mitchells. I'm not anti-shimano, their customer service is *way* better than Mitchell's! But try an MX6 fullrunner if you collect baitrunners, you'll be pleasantly surprised
