I'm a 74-year-old gay man. What I've learned mostly because of my miserable brother is there are lots of miserable people out there who are NEVER happy until they have made everybody around them as miserable as they are. Social media has gifted these people with the idea that the entire world wants to know what they think when we really don't care.

A guy in Michigan who has made his view clear that he has no problem with us as long as he doesn't have to see us or hear about us should hear what you said in your last post. If he doesn't like seeing us then don't watch our events He has posted a video depicting how he deals with us by blowing up a pickup truck - with a rainbow painted on the side of it - using his bazooka. It really hurt to the core to see that. I may not be gay, but I am sick and tired of the way some people treat others that may not be exactly like them! ENOUGH! Hi Steve & Jim... You need to carry some beautiful rose quartz crystals (which generate love) and the energy of those crystals will eliminate all negative hateful vibrations. Sadly we live in the midst of alot of intolerant ignorance. It's our job to filter it out and not let it impact our lives. Social media has created the platform, but thankfully we can also delete and block! Those who post nasty comments are only venting their own "stuff" which in reality has nothing to do with you, your lifestyle or Palm Springs celebrating Gay Pride!! I work in a senior community where there a a few gay couples and some singles. I'm straight but have always felt an affinity with the gay community, and found the people I know to be my kind, open minded evolved and just fun to be around! Hopefully your husband will come around and realize that love is so much more important than anything else in the end. Have you seen the TV movie prayers for Bobby? It’s star is Sigourney Weaver as a mom who refuses to accept her child when he comes out. She eventually does accept him, but it is too late and she has to live with and regret her decision for the rest of her life. I highly recommend getting your husband to watch it with you. Ok this is interesting timing. KZread put you in my path and I'm glad. The other day I watched a youtuber, now going a bit viral, who sadly has a daughter who doesn't talk to her. I don't know what happened but at one point the woman said she and her husband were very accepting of "alternative lifestyles", they just don't think it should be shoved down their throats. I thought, and there it is. Isn't that the mantra of homophobes? "I don't mind but..." Now I am a straight woman with a straight son but I think any parent who isn't 100% accepting of their children, doesn't deserve them. I'm sick of all types of prejudice. We have a joke in our house, when my son told me he was straight I said, "I'm sure we'll still be close." subbed! PS Sorry to shove all that talk of straightness down your throats. :D

I, also, spent much of my youth as the youngest person in the room; I was most comfortable with older, more mature, people. Eventually, and inevitably, I became the oldest person in the room. This has required. Much adjusting on my part. I am saddened by each millimeter of "vim and vigor" that I lose, but what saddens me the most is the blatant ageism and arrogant assumptions of those who are currently in their prime. They are missing out on so much, and they are not somehow magically stopping the march of time - one day, they will be what they now so openly ridicule.

Oh Steve, I'm so sorry! As a straight woman whose career was nursing, I worked shoulder to shoulder with gay and lesbian people and they are friends too. My friends here are all gay, I trust gay and lesbians more than I trust straight folks. I love my friends as they are more authentic than my straight friends. What I saw at Pride was a community coming together to support each other, there were so many types of people celebrating and it was heart warming. When the state of Minnesota voted to make same sex marriage legal, I was at the capitol to celebrate, it was important to me to see history made and to celebrate freedom for all. When one group of people are segregated, how are any of us free? We all should have the freedom to be our authentic selves and celebrate who we are and celebrate our communities with love and freedom and yes, freedom from insults and nasty comments on KZread. Really folks, it's much worse now than it ever was and it's time for all to grow up. I always think there is something very wrong with those who are stating these slurs, they must be terribly unhappy with themselves.

Steve: Oh so right about being raised then to always respect your elders. Behavior and manners were front and center when we grew up. Seniors were seen as older and wiser, someone who has learned much and experienced much. Anyone older than us was addressed only as Mr. or Mrs. How times and attitudes have changed - not always for the better. Cheer up! You have far more friends than detractors.

I agree with you 100%. My older brother posted on FB that straights need a pride day and is tired of homosexuals shoving their lifestyle in their faces. I told him he and other straight people are lucky that they don't need a pride day because straight people are not discriminated by society, that laws are not being enacted to limit your rights to live your life, that straights are not committing suicide because they are straight, that straights can display public affection without danger, persecution, or violence against them. Told my brother I wish for the day when gay pride does not have to exist anymore.

In fact, I think we should celebrate veterans every day of the year. Some thing that has stuck with me my entire life is remembering just how badly military men and women were treated after returning home from Vietnam. I was so shocked at how badly veterans were treated by most of the citizens in this country. And today we have politicians treating veterans even worse. It’s pretty unbelievable. Probably because the community is so accepting and protective of LGBTQ plus people. Our last mayor was a transgender woman. One of the first of the country. So even though no place is completely safe, it’s definitely a lot safer here to live your life the way you were born. Your nephew will be very welcome here. 😄👍

Hello Steve and Jim! Firstly, Pride week was so fun in Palm Springs; I wish it was more frequent. EVERYBODY was so nice…..and I talked to a ton of folks participating, so that is a pretty indicative cross section of all of us there. Aside from KZread, LinkedIn is my only other social media I use. Somebody posted a pic of the Palm Springs police suv that has the pride colors on it, and was expressing thanks for what they do, and for keeping the Villagefest safe this last week. The same thing happened to that person as what was said to you two; a landslide of bad human comments. I am super sorry you two have to continue your lives being discriminated against. Yes…lots of people are deliberate, and then there are some that are so ignorant that they don’t know or realize what they say or do is bad. It is so sad that we have the amount of people that suck. There is no way I can even pretend that I walk in the shoes that LGBTQ+ people do with regards to the discrimination that goes on. But, from my little position in the world, you would be shocked (but maybe you wouldn’t) at during my talks with my former war buddies when I eventually tell them that we bought a place in Palm Springs, CA this year; and then to hear their comments. In some cases, these are guys that I actually fought with overseas; which is traditionally one of the relationships that humans put on the highest pedestals together of unfettered commitment to each other. It literally is a relationship that any person would envious of. Unfortunately , their comments are disturbing, disrespectful, and disgusting. Some of them limit it to California bashing. But most include anti LGBTQ+ comments too. Sadly, I now communicate with a lot less of my army fraternity; literally, guys that I exposed myself to enemy fire to cover them. So, I know I have made some of these comments about my mantras or beliefs, etc before. But, it is a good time to consolidate them. - EVERYBODY has something to offer to the cause. I was in units that recruited, equipped, trained, and advised indigenous people out on combat missions. My work mates would frequently comment on their lower education, their skin color, and their lack of ability to speak English (which they automatically correlated with being inferior). And I always reminded them to not discount anybody and they all have something to offer. - there is a reason for the equal opportunity statement “don’t discriminate against race, religion, sexual orientation, etc etc”. Because….it is the good human thing to live that way. Who in the world gave a discriminating person the right to talk to anybody as they stand on some perceived pedestal? - when I hear someone bashing people for any of the reasons mentioned above, I tell them that I never talked to a war prisoner in such a manner that we just apprehended; even if we found them, in action, in a room with hanging corpses and dismemberments laying around. I know it is somewhat gross of a statement or example, but it definitely drives home the point to them. - if people applied the amount of effort that they expend, to be mean and yahoos to others, towards themselves, they would probably be a decent human and, in most cases, be better off. Anyways…I appreciate you two….and hope you have a super week!

We appreciate you Alan. Thank you for sharing this with us. It’s interesting, but sad to hear. The world definitely needs more people like you in it. Thank you for being one of the good ones and for trying to help some of the not so good ones to be better. 😄👍

I think people are free to live their lives the way they want without judgement from others. I personally love watching your videos showing people having fun whether they’re straight or gay. I can only imagine the prejudices you’ve faced in your life because you are gay. You and Jim are great and I like your channel. Keep up the great work and know not everyone is unkind.

I enjoy both your channels very much, if there is a video I'm not interested in on any channel I just don't watch it. Most creators get trolls from what I've seen. ❤

Exactly, I’m like you. And yes every KZreadr gets trolls. If mother Theresa or alive and had her KZread channel I’m sure she would get hateful trolls leaving messages too. I know it just goes with the territory, but sometimes I still need to share them and vent lol! 😲🙃

Change is SO slow. And we sadly live in a hateful environment as well, most of the time. Haters gonna hate especially since they can do it hiding behind their keyboards in a most cowardly fashion. I love you guys. You are the best. Glad I found you a couple years ago. You represent and I appreciate it. I find it a bit ironic that you are 2 of the most NORMAL g ay people I've ever seen, i.e., PEOPLE. Lol. We all are. But seriously, it just shows that there is so much more work to be done. Hard to believe the fight goes on still. Just to BE.

I agree Tigger! It often feels like one step forward and two steps back. And here we are in 2023 and even though there has been a tremendous amount of progress and someways it is even worse than it was in 1953! Thanks 😄👍
