Both my neighbors are both in their 80’s both have lost their husbands and we are basically like their grandkids (we meaning me and my siblings) they love our company and are always waiting for us (even now that I’m older they still wait for us… I’m almost 15 btw)

This is the worst thing about west when children grows up they move from parents house and just imagine if one of parent die then father or mother are living alone like an orphan.Atleast they should comeback and live with them or take them to their house. People can say anything or negative about india but one thing which i proud of is as the parents raised us with love care and everything and when we grows up we take care of them .

I know I was drawn to elderly people because I remember being taught that older people know a lot and are wise about lots of things, and my kid brain thought anyone who was labelled as wise was equivalent to an all-knowing celestial

It goes both ways, the elderly people aren't always distracted like most of us adults are today. I try to keep this in mind when spending time with the kids in my life. Kids just want some attention and someone to play along with them. Elderly people basically want the same thing, being lonely is hard and it is so amazing that these kids have made friends with this kind man

Absolutely! I was very lucky, and was raised almost completely by my grandparents. Being brought up by them from birth, to adulthood, shaped me into a more mature, understanding, and (hopefully) intelligent person. All of the stories they shared, and the wisdom they bestowed upon me will always be a huge part of me as a whole. And as far as I know, the experience of raising me, and my three younger siblings, gave them something to look forward to and learn from each day. Take care 😊.

Made me think a lot about him and after that I always helped him with his lawn and garden even though he would just come over and cut everybody elses grass on our corner for free. My wife lost her mom last April, but she has me and the kids. Her dad only had her mom. He's kind of an introvert so he didn't have any friends to come around. We visit him at least a couple times a week, but I can always sense a profound loneliness in him. I hope I go first. Maybe it's selfish but I don't ever want to go through what he's going through.

In the early 90’s, I grew up in an isolated area and my only connection from the age of 10 to 14 was an elderly neighbor who became my friend. We would talk everyday and share books and old pc games back and forth. One day, after I hadn’t seen him in about a month, I made up an excuse to go over and ask his wife where he was and wanted to return a game he loaned me. She told me he had passed away and was sorry nobody told me. I said “oh, ok” and went home and cried for like an hour. John was a good man and think about him every now and then all these years later…

The way you worded that..I couldn't hold the tears back. My boys are 17 and 15 now. Just thinking about the days they would swing their little feet, tell me about their day or something they learned, just anything- in that little kid way where their speech is so excited and kind of broken up a bit you know? My heart 💔❤ (Also, I'm 5'4 and my boys are both nearly 6 feet tall now. It's really funny 😂)

From kid i like to be with elderlies. Grandpa, Grandma and in the neighborhood. I like their stories, from Life. Their point of view . I used to ask for advice to my problem's. They have a wisdom, not only from wilderness but and because of the generation. They grow up all together, free in the road's , with dignity and rules. They all have big loves, they all fight for a better world , they all know what is right and what is wrong, they all see the others as humans first and then the others . There are a bless and as they gone of this world, the rest are less. So take the advanced, now they are still alive, to give to our children a little spirit of freedom and physiological way of thinking.

No words to describe how sorry I am. Although I can relate, very closely. My mother was in a good nursing home for seven years as she miserably died horribly slowly from Parkinsons. I was, of course, with her the morning she died, but she was lingering. I lived less than five minutes away from the nursing home and the staff told me to go home & get some quick lunch. of course, that’s when she died, and I came racing back with my partner, and a very, very good late friend and held her in her bed. I have no children and hope and pray that doesn’t happen to me.

I used to live in a villa complex. A 92 year old lady lived in the villa across from me and she was always alone. I used to go there after school to keep her company and see if she needed help around the house. My family would always give her food if we were baking or had bbq’s. she was always sooo grateful and so happy when either me or my siblings came over. A lady and her daughter moved in next door to us and they were SUPER lovely! They went over to the old lady’s house as well. A year later she passed away sadly. The lady next door would always give us gifts and was just always so nice with us. We later found out that the lady and her daughter that moved in next door were the old lady’s daughter and granddaughter! They were so grateful for us taking care of her mother while she was saving up to move closer to her mother. She said her mother would always go on about how much we meant to her and the time we spent with her. It wasn’t a chore for us, it was just something we loved doing after school! Goes to show that little gestures go such a fkn long way!

So many elderly people are in exactly the same situation as this man. They have either outlived everyone they know, or their children/grandchildren have moved away to live their own lives. They sit around basically unnoticed by most of society so when someone goes out of their way to talk to them, little girl or otherwise, it means the world to them. Not to mention you can gain a lot of wisdom for yourself if you take the time to listen to their stories and pick their brains. These people were once young have a wealth of advise to give on how to navigate life. Take a few minutes out of your day sometime to talk to an elderly person, and then maybe one day when you’re old and forgotten and sitting on the porch alone someone will come and talk to you.
