Like selling a house. There is a buyer for the house, it's just a matter of getting them together. I think comics are like that. Timing and buyer have to come together. A lot of people may not be aware of the significance of these picks.

Some folks would rather wait for collected editions than have a bunch of single issues of modern stuff sitting around, & in some ways I agree with them 🤔 but I always get worried I'll miss a cool run/arc as it happens & try to stay subscribed to a few titles. Weird though because a good 90% of my 15,000+ issue collection is Silver & Bronze Age even though I also have all the omnibus editions & Epic Collections, Absolutes, etc. 😅 I do agree however that people who actually _read_ the comics are a little bit more my people than the ones who just buy them as "investments" or whatever.

Great video, but I have a counter argument: It's not surprising that the actual first appearance of Hallow's Eve doesn't sell. People care mostly about the heroic/villainous personas. This holds pretty solid i.e. First Mac Gargan as opposed to first Scorpion, etc.

I am writing this before I watch but I think I agree with you. I sell a lot of books and very rarely does the sales relate to the hot list. What it was doing was generating sales after the list came out but since the comic book downturn it does not even do that. I will watch and then re-comment if need be, after.

Steve Rogers is Captain America. When you remove Steve Rogers, you have nothing. Say there's a Beatles tribute band, and they decide to release some new material. That's "Captain America" and, for that matter, "Iron Man" without Steve Rogers and Tony Stark, respectively.

Interesting post and although there was a mix of books, there were mostly newer books. I tend to dismiss most newer Comics though I have bought some that were of interest to me. When I see high prices on new books that have not stood the test of time, I know it's just hype, usually associated with a movie. Later when the book comes of the hype, spec buyers might feel a pinch of buyers remorse. I will say with the price corrections we now see, there are some fantastic values out there to be scooped up and as a fanboy of the Marvel Silver age, I'm liking it. Best to all.

I would think that the Cap book (DoL) not selling has nothing to do with the movie, much like actual interest, but more likely the speculating market has taken a hit during the market down turn and the speculators playing hot potato are not as active in the market as they once were.

Some of the prices "hot" books sell for are the acceptation to the rule, like Batman '89 for example. The graphic said it sold for as high as $15. Was that just one sale, or several? To me, a genuinely hot book is a book that maintains its value for at least a couple months. "Hot" books now fizzle quickly.

I wont' go on a tear about how certain KZread comic shows try to get heat going on comics just because they're sitting on a bunch and want to move them. Oops, I just did. Looking at you, Comic Tom. Anyway...I can't speak to all of these, but as to Uncanny X-Men #184, I would just say too many people had them. Back in the 80's, the X-Men books got smoking hot around the #172 range. And people bought the heck out of them until around #200. So this one, being smack in the middle, is just in too many people's collections or gets sold in Estate/yard sales too much. Not digging on Forge, it's just a realllly common issue.

Mike W. Barr has said that he does not receive royalties for Damian Wayne because DC claims that he is not the same character as the child of Talia that appeared in Son of the Demon. If DC won't acknowledge Son of the Demon as the first appearance of Damian Wayne, then neither should the market. On a side note, Barr wanted to do more stories with Talia's son after, SOTD, but Warner Brothers put the kibosh on the character ever being mentioned again. WB were making the Tim Burton Batman movies at the time, and they thought it would negatively affect his image with the viewing audience if he was depicted as having fathered a child out of wedlock. Of course they didn't have a problem with Batman having sex with Vickie Vale in the movie, but getting a woman pregnant was a step too far. The really ironic part is that Denny O'Neil had done a story in 1978 (DC Special Series #15) where Batman and Talia were legally married by Ra's Al-Ghul (Batman was an unwilling participant, but in their home country only the consent of the bride and the father is required to perform a wedding ceremony). When DC editor Dick Giordano initially objected to Batman having sex with Talia in his story, Barr reminded him of O'Neil's story and point out that there was nothing morally questionable about a husband and wife consummating their marriage.

Firstly... Excellent content - Wow, you sure do know a lot about modern comics! How do you remember this stuff? Secondly, I think the reason why so many comics aren't as hot as expected is simple - it's because most of the books that have been pegged as "hot" (by certain "hot list" youtube-ers) are NOT hot. I think there's a tiny number of people chasing an ever-changing list of 30 or 40 books, and creating videos about them, but these people do not reflect the market - and the fact that a small number of people paid $40 for the first appearance of a 4th string character who is rumored to get a show, or whatever, does not make these 400 books per year "hot". Think about it this way... there are hundreds of books every year that are named as "hot" ("key" is even worse) and there are 5,000 to 40,000 copies of each and every one of these so-called hot books. It should be obvious that there's not enough free, available money to buy even a tenth of those copies at the inflated prices. What happened was... there was just a smidgen of money spent on just a handful of copies that traded at the $20 to $40 per copy price. There's not enough free cash (or mastercard credit card money) available to buy more than a few dozen copies ( maybe 100 copies) after that, once all the fools have been separated from their money... there's literally no more demand at that price. Unfortunately, that inflated price starts getting quoted as the "FMV" (or quoted as the most recent sale by hot-list youtubers)... The problem these books have, is best summed up by Gertrude Stein's famous quote.. "There's no there, there." and there's no one willing to buy them.

Batman 89 was a great read, I think covid brought back the comic boom because everyone was stuck at home and getting on KZread watching channels like yours kind of helped stir the pot and added newbies, trend chasers, investors, with the OG's. Yes, it brought people who are looking for a quick flip instead of people who actually enjoy reading them but for a moment It was cool watching my LCS flooded with people but as I got to know everyone that weren't subscribers in line I learned they weren't really into it, it was the new hobby, it was all those damn variant covers, youtuber speculations that are/were killing comics all over because now I noticed the NCBD crowed subside, everything Marvel/Disney is releasing is trash. #readcomicbookssucka

These books are all not hot for a simple reason - not great stories. Daughters of Liberty was the low point of the series for me, why they want to use it for the movie is beyond me. DMZ already had a netflix show nobody cared about where they female swapped the main character. The Lost Years was part of clone saga crap storyline - 'nuff said. Forge is just a gadget guy - entirely replaceable - so who cares? The Truth probably sells better as a TPB - the art was also not great. Damian Wayne's early bratty appearances weren't enjoyable reading - couldn't stand the character until he teamed up with Nightwing.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but what was woke about Batman '89? The book had problems, most specifically being that it devoted so much time to the character arcs of Harvey Dent, Barbara Gordon, Robin, and Catwoman that Batman became a supporting character in his own series, but wokeness was not one one of them. Yes, they modeled Robin after Marlon Wayans, but that's who Tim Burton had planned to cast as Robin if he didn't get pulled from Batman Forever. And I don't remember anybody throwing a fit in 1989 when Billy Dee Williams was cast as Harvey Dent.
