X-Men Titans was the first book I ever bought with my own $. It was already a valuable book (I was 12...10 bucks was a lot of $) Got it from GEPPIS COMIC WORLD in Harborplace, Baltimore, from Steve,at my first ever comic shop visit...for cover price. That day changed my life...I didn't know I was literally meeting THE GUY...he was just a really really nice and personable Italian guy that thought my southern Illinois accent was "something else"😅 He taught me a TON,as I was there 5-6 days a week while my mom worked for the biggest law firm in the city. I was given 10 dollars to last until lunch for drinks, snacks..then after lunch an additional 5 dollars for that same. Exactly 2 dollars a day went to it. That shops .25¢ and .50¢ bins were raided daily. Once Steve saw me 3 times in a week,he peppered those boxes with 3-10 dollar books...to see if I actually knew what I was buying or,as he put it "had the eye for it" just kinda knowing that a book was special without anything but cover scans. James...I read EVERYTHING...always have. Read textbooks over summer breaks when I had nothing else.. everything LITERALLY...and I had found some old overstreet price guides,several zines and probably 2 dozen different articles about comics with stuff from June 1,1938 up until probably 84, that taught me a significant amount of very important things about comics as not only collectibles but as our modern mythology. And yes ..I was bitten by the bug, but also understood that these things mattered. I treated them like gold,still do. Steve Geppi...whom plenty of people have an opinion about, kept so many places open with revolving door credit that it's mind blowing...he looked past huge bills and filled current orders for a tiny percentage of monies owed attached to the days bill. TINY percentages. He brought incredible creators to Baltimore for shows at festival hall....any opinion besides "He's one helluva guy" falls on deaf ears here. The day he sold me X-MEN-TITANS for cover price? That day...I absolutely fell in love with this 4 color phenomenon we call "the hobby"...it became my life.

I had NEVER heard of the "Source Wall" before today.

When the titles of the episodes were first announced for X-Men 97, and I saw 'Tolerance is Extinction' was the title of the last 3 episodes, I wondered if they were adapting Operation: Zero Tolerance, and suspected the big bad would be Bastion. When he had an obvious cameo in episode 4, I was certain Bastion would at least be a major villain at the end. When episode 7 came out, I decided to swing by an LCS near my work and dig through their back issue bin. To my surprise no one had caught on, and I managed to find Uncanny X-Men 333 for $3. The cashier wasn't even aware, and just thought I was picking up a weird eclectic mix of X-Men books, as I picked up some holes in my collection from Legion's Quest, the OZT storyline, and Onslaught related comics.

Magik 4 is one of my favorite covers. That drawing of Illyana became one of my earliest tattoos. I gave her blue hair though. 💙🙂

Magik is my favorite character. I actually dont know why. I recently bought a bundle of all 4 issues in nice condition and read it. Very nice read by the end. Well written to this day to make you realize we all struggle the same way in a constant conscious question of who we want to be versus what our environment wants us to be. At least, thats what I took from it. Look within.

That the first appearance of the Source Wall is in that that crossover IS one hell of a revelation! 🤯 It feels like a Jack Kirby thing.....

I agree how is a Cameo not considered the flat out first appearance is beyond me

I have to admit that watching videos like this make me wish I could go back in time when comic characters had single issues each, one universe and weren’t commodities. Now I’ll go yell at that cloud! ☁️

Very nice selection of undervalued books if we may, I would add X factor number to the second appearance of Deadpool. There’s also a few others in that X factor run in the first couple of issues that you could put there.

The Wolverine on the cover of X-Men Alpha is so 90s, just so fugly! The X-Men/Teen Titans one-shot is a very good story with great art. Grant Morrison's run on New X-Men took the title in all kinds of unexpected, sometimes whacky directions but it was never boring. I acknowledge that Frank Quitely, whose work I like, is a love-him-or-hate-him artist.

Thank you for what you said about cameos when you were talking about X-Men 188. I've never understood the distinction between first appearances and cameo *edit: for brand new characters*. If they're in a comic book and you clearly see the character, well, that's literally an appearance. By definition, I don't think a brand new character can have a cameo. Established characters yes absolutely they have cameos, but not a brand new one.

Darkchylde was Randy Queen's creation not Liefeld's. I figured on Bastion as soon as I saw Sentinels were back.

Recently graded a $7 book... landed at a 9.6... Uncanny X-Men #169... 1st appearance of Callisto and the Morlocks... WHY IS THIS BAD@$$ UNDER $10? 😁

Back in the 1990's Uncanny 94-201 was the run that got the $. For every good Silvestri cover there are two forgettable ones. Age of Apokalypse was the brief return to greatness.

Now is the time for Xmen and FF back issues to take the front line of avengers and spidey

I would think that traditional collectors would have already bought the books they wanted, especially characters already showing up in other media, and that it would only be a small subset of the “collector” market. Much like for the past decade, it would seem that trend in books are for flippers and speculators playing hot potato.

Question James. CGC has recently acquired accompany to certified signatures. do you think I will need a COA with my books that I want to send to Cgc that are not part of the Signature series? A few of them I have COA for my last two signed books. I got from Whatnot. I just sent him to be signed again so I would get the yellow label.
