If we could only all write songs like this when we were 16. Written by Jackson Browne, first recorded by Nico, this version is a hybrid of Nico's 1966 recording and Jackson's subsequent 1973 recording. Thanks as always to the folks at D'Angelico and Supro for providing me with this guitar and amp, thanks to my friend Andy Riehle and the folks at Hal Leonard for providing the Julia chorus pedal, and thanks to Zoom Electronics for making the best portable recorder of all time, the H2.
Technical details:
Electric guitar: D'Angelico Deluxe Atlantic - Walrus Audio Julia - Supro Black Magick 1696 RT. Recorded on a Zoom H2. Mic stand is an AirTurn Gostand.
Mixed in Pro Tools and printed to 1/4" tape.
Filmed on a Canon EOS R with an RF 24-70L lens and a Hollywood Black Magic 1/4 filter. Lights are Neewer 660's with soft boxes/barndoors. Edited in Adobe Premiere. Video by Kelly Oden.

Browne was such an old soul so young. "Don't confront me with my failures......I had not forgotten them." At 16, how many failures has one had that one has had the time and perception to consider them? Amazing. Stunning. Perfect rendition of this wonderful tune of self examination. Bravo, young men, bravo.

Being as old as 65, I can get into bad habits of not wanting to listen to young people's music, then I would be a fool not to, because I found great treasures on KZread such as these Lads, and at 65 I am only now learning to sing and play guitar, even writing songs a blessing because now i can get my own stories out there, yes listening to wonderful young musicians can be very inspiring

While I don't doubt Josh's talent would shine through in any generation, a big factor in his playing is the inspiration of folk guitarists like John Fahey, Leo Kottke, Nick Drake, et al. He would not have been as likely to know and study these guitarists if he was living at the time.

What a great birthday present! I am consistently amazed by that little Zoom H2. I just caution folks in the comments to understand a great deal of understanding and talent is required to get results like this on a portable recorder. When limited by mic placement, instrument placement and dynamics need to be perfect. Look at where the guitar amp is, listen to the volume. See where Carson is sitting, and how he is interacting with the Zoom. Look at how Josh leans in when singing harmony, but his voice is still placed perfectly underneath the melody. This is expert level playing and recording through and through. The amount of time these two and all the other musicians featured in their other videos have dedicated to their crafts really shows. You guys are highly appreciated. Please keep it up.

Keep doing what you're doing, the world is a better place for having you in it.

Excellent harmonies as usual! I must admit, I have not seen so much volume in the bed head hair since back in college days! It’s all about the music....just as it should be. Great job, gentlemen!
