The thing is that car enthusiasts scream for sports cars and many do buy them but enthusiasts weren't the only ones buying sports cars thru the 90s - it was the average Joe as well...but we aren't earning as much as we did back then adjusted for inflation and cost of everything has kept up with or surpassed base inflation so we just have less disposable income to allocation to fun cars and stuff like that

@@gwpeoples so comparing a used Miata with a new Z4 is no fair comp... the Mazda Club trim with base paint and only the Brembo bakes package is $40K before taxes...While a top spec GT is pushing 50k... That compared to 70k isn't unreasonable for the added power, luxury items, etc .. I would still have the Miata Club but just saying comparing a used Miata to a new topspec Z4 M40i is not fair to the Z4...a fairer comp is to the s30i...which is about 10-14k more than the Club...and at that point it is a great value compared to the GT...

@@triaxe-mmb Your pricing is off on the Miata. The Club RF MSRP is $40k (and there are no options available in 2024, the old Brembo/Recarro/BBS package is standard now) and the GT RF is like $37k. Those are the 2 most expensive Miata trims. They aren't anywhere close to $50k. Not to mention the soft top trims are all in the low to mid $30k range. IMO the s30i isn't a fair comparison because it's only available as an automatic.

Most young, under 40, buyers are not into driving like us older people. This really hurts sports cars, especially with a manual transmission. EV, and alternate fuel vehicles are hurt by lack of infrastructure. Add to that, the cost of a new car, interest rates and a soft job market, niche vehicle sales will obviously fall.

It times of economic uncertainty niche vehicles just don’t sell very fast or very well. The Z3 and GTR are not only niche but also in the luxury category. Those are among the first things people jettison when they need to try to save money. A look at Barret Jackson or Mechum auctions tells you the same thing. You have collectors unloading special interest cars for the financial gain which is not as much as you’re hoping for. The other factor is dealerships are all still in pandemic pricing mode and are overpricing new and used vehicles. The biggest problem is dealerships don’t have enough of the lower priced more basic versions of their current models on the lot. Somebody might find a 32k Toyota Tacoma a less painful purchase then a 60k fully loaded overlander or SR5 or TRD ( and most dealers overpopulate with SR5s and TRDs). Remember people are going to try to save money with recession fears coming and purchasing a 75 or 80k pickup truck is going to be a tough sell

I was also actively told not to buy a nexo at my Hyundai dealer to the point where he didn’t even want to take me on a test drive. Besides them Toyota offers the hydrogen credit with used first gen mirais and for their prices it can make sense but I found it was a much better deal just buying a hybrid in the end.

The "hot seller" will remain the station wagon since nothing else was deemed production worthy. CAFE standards, lack of advertising, lack of interesting product options (black interiors across the board practically), lack of interest by the manufacturer since ultimate sales could not be generated (sales numbers were profitable, just not where the management wanted them to be), and high prices played a role in the sales numbers. As mentioned in the comments, most of the cars on your list are just too expensive. I would buy the manual Z4 tomorrow but at 78k with options and not even fully loaded is way too much for this car. If the car was around 50k with the options I wanted instead of 78k. Its a second car for most people and more people would buy especially that it offers a manual but the price is too high.

You want to take a chance on a vehicle that costs $175+ to fill up to go 270 - 300 miles vs. something that is actually already proven and has 1000x more fueling locations with more installed every day?

I think the reason sports cars and other cars you mentioned here isn’t selling because most trucks and suvs are so good at everything today and even better in some ways. My truck is as fast as a mustang and rides better can tow more get the groceries and has more room inside. Then theres the price to consider. Not everyone can afford to have a sports car and a truck or suv so they pick one vehicle that can do everything instead of one thing.just my opinion thanks for the videos guys

Some cars would sell like cupcakes if the factory had capacity to deliver enough of them. Case in point: Manual Z4 and Manual Supra which are produced in low-volume Austrian Magna factory.

People will not buy niche or cars serving as a hobby item in very very bad economic climates and high interest rates. The Fiat is just ugly. Tommy should beat up on it's old looks as he does the GTR, being they look the same as they did twenty years ago.

  • @doubleclutchonline5811

Based on forum comments, the RC coupe might be considered beautiful. But the reality is that it is an ungainly design that has the road presence of a Solara. It's an ugly coupe at a time when coupes aren't popular. BMW Z4... it has received less press than the ugly Toyota Supra. Even though it's based on the same platform and is much better looking. Convertibles aren't popular right now. Acura ZDX... it will continue to be neglected by Acura. A half azzed attempt to offer an EV. The Murai... Exists solely to be an anti-EV red herring. Those interested in alternative vehicles, namely EV's, are not interested in filling their cars with tanks full of stuff anymore. If you want to fill you car with tanks of stuff, get a hybrid. Fiat EV... another half azzed attempt at an EV. It's an expensive and impractical Prada bag. GTR... Old and neglected. At the moment, Nissans aren't cool. No one spending this kind of luxury-level money wants to step foot in a sorry Nissan dealership alongside people buying Altimas and Rogues. Hyundai Nexo... never heard of it.
