    We homeschool, and as part of penmanship and accurate copying, I use Psalms for our 8year old. We start out with making tracing pages of the Psalm - she traces and reads the Spalm comletely during the day. After 2 - 3 weeks she has to copy 4 lines in the morning as wll as reading it out loud. Thus far she has learned Psalms 1, 2 and 8 - AND she has started to recognise phrases when used elsewhere in the Bible. She loves to quote what she has learned.

    Thank you. This is a great time to internalize the Word of God in my life. I will start with Ephesians. We hear from this book often in the Temple of Deliverance Life Changing Ministry in our church family. Our Bible Institute requires us to know chapter 4:11-13. I will enjoy internalizinfg this book.

    I remember memorizing Philippians and Colossians in college. In hindsight, I strangely found that memorizing verbatim every verse in a book was not actually as helpful as I thought it would be for meditating on and internalizing its content. I think the idea of memorizing an outline of a book's major topics/themes is more helpful because it forces you to think more about the flow of thought, rather than fixating on getting each verse down verbatim, like it was a script to recite. I say this, not to exclude memorizing verses entirely because that certainly has its benefits.

    Totally makes sense. That’s why I say that it’s important to read/study enough that you can say it in your own words before getting the words right. It’s what I call “internalization.” I’m so glad you did it! And thanks for sharing.

    I just started back today memorizing Matthew 5. I think I will continue that, however, I am going to, in parallel, grab one of these books and see if I can drag my brother along. Also going to buy your two courses. Thinking about adding the book library as well. Good stuff.

    Keith - I'm glad to see that your memory verse quotes aren't all from your new favorite translation (which showed on the screen) 😆and that leads me to my question: how does one manage when one has already memorized in a different translation several of the verses from a book one is internalizing in a new translation??.... suggestions?

  • @keithferrin

    @keithferrin

    23 күн бұрын

    I wish I had an easy answer. It's super hard! I would suggest beginning with a passage you haven't internalized in a different translation. Start with something fresh. Each translation has a "rhythm" or "cadence." It's nice to have something fresh to learn before you "re-learn" a passage you already know.

    I think I'll start with Psalms. Go big or go home! ;-) You're right about knowing the various verses you mentioned. From the three you suggested I'd probably go with Ephesians. Sometimes I have a bit of an identity crisis, as far as who I am in Christ, so this might be just the book to help remind me internalize those truths. Thanks for the suggestions.

    My pleasure. May I suggest you "begin" with Ephesians...and add a psalm or that that's particularly meaningful to you? Since most psalms are "poems" or "song lyrics" they really stand alone nicely.

    @@keithferrin Before you presented your 3 recommendations, I thought Jude could be one because... well obviously the length! But when you say internalizing, I feel like your personal recommendations would work better to have it 'pumping through your veins' like you mentioned in this video. Anyways, I enjoyed watching your video. I am currently taking my first dive into reading the books from the prophets starting in Ecclesiastes. Read it for the first time last Friday, and now I'm going back through it. My takeaway from your video is to try and internalize the books after my initial read through now!
