My Maine Coon was very smart (he flushed the toilet & opened the shutters) & hung out with me all day. He was in love with our pit bull & they were besties, too. He snuggled, of course, but was afraid of other people & hid. (He was feral for his 1st 6 months.) His only flaw was he gave me love bites, which scratched up my arms. :-( He died a few months ago & I miss the feisty guy! And his big, fluffy tail!

So sorry to hear about your loss. I know that feeling, we lost our ten year old Maine coon a year ago, he had cancer. I finally found another one that I wanted and love him so much. He doesn’t replace the one that we lost but he is so loving. I pray that your heart heals. ❤️❤️

We have a 1/2 Maine Coon that actually looks more MC than not. I have a question about the biting. He definitely wants love and attention a lot. But when I start petting and loving on him he starts with the biting and slowest the claws come out. He draws blood 🩸 sometimes and then it’s over for me. What does this mean and what am I doing wrong?

Sorry for your loss, my cousin had a pit bull, he was a great big puppy all his life, sadly he has passed away too. People not in the know always misunderstand the pit bull. I hope you pitty will have a new coon in his/her life soon.

Years ago, i was asked to foster a very old male cat at the local shelter, i wanted to learn more about the "old guy" and was shocked! They brought a 9 kg Maine Coon mixbreed with short orange tabby fur, he was depressed and apathetic. I could see his grief in his pale green eyes and immediately fell in love with him. He was at the shelter for 4 years and nobody wanted to adopt him. He had a hard life as a stray before one of the shelter women found him as he was weak, picked him up and did everything for him to make him as healthy as possible. He had a moderate arthrosis, many battle scars and his left ear was reduced to half. His mane was not very big, but existing and fluffy. He had a collar with his name "Maxi" and birthday, and that was all what we ever learnt about him. He was nearly 20 years old as i learned about him, the shelter staff asked me to foster him for his last few weeks or months, he disliked other cats very much. So i agreed to take him. Weeks passed, and he warmed up, realized that he had found his forever home, was loved and allowed to love. He showed his full personality after a few months, and he was a real Maine Coon at this point. Very affectionate, showing his love every day, he was a real snugglebug. He was not interested in going out for a walk, he was super relaxed and loved to sit very close to me or on my lap. If i was busy doing home work, he watched "cat tv" out of one of my windows. When he wanted my attention, he wanted it at once. If i didn`t react fast enough to his meowing, chirping or purring, he gave me some very tender love bites in my hand or leg. For his 21st birthday, i got a piece of beef filet for us, baked it carefully and let it cool down for next day. On the next day, i put it on the kitchen table, it was ready to get steamed, it was tough like leather at this point, but would become very soft after steaming. As i waited for it to warm up a little, i heard soft smacking and went to the kitchen. There was Maxi, sitting on a chair, front paws on the table and chewing the meat! He had no problem to chew it into pieces and eat it, and as he realized i was watching him, he softly growled "it`s mine" and continued. I was amazed how much power he had in his jaws! He had all his teeth, they were very healthy, and now i realized how careful he always was with me when giving me tender love bites. From this day i gave him his meat in bigger pieces and he loved it. 2 or 3 days a week he got meat instead of cat food. For his 22nd birthday i adopted him! He made it up to the golden age of 26 1/2 years, he never was ill, and his arthrosis never became worse. He was a true lovely grandpa, sleepy, but when i was feeling bad, he was there for me, comforted me until i felt better. He slept near me in my bed, belly up and softly snoring. Listening to his snoring, i fell asleep very fast. He also loved to watch a movie together with me, but he never made it to the end of the movie. He always came onto my lap, turned around to get some belly rubs and fell asleep very fast. Falling asleep was the only thing he was doing fast 😸 He looked like an old warrior with much scars, but he was always very calm and friendly.

I'm so glad that you made the final years of such a worthy pussycat comfortable and decently luxurious! I am proud to have done the same for the sable we called Captain Morgan who was happy to accept a life of leisure after the deprivations he suffered for much of his life. Big and blac but a sweetie once he realised we weren't out to get him...and he no doubt found the cat-flap was reassuring should retreat have been necessary! He also realised that we were friends due to the endless quantities of chicen we were prepared to lavish upon him; yes...once he accepted his new exalted position of Senior CAT he really mellowed out and soaed it up but he returned to us a thousandfold with his being a great big floofy purr-machine and as gentle as a....big blac cloud! He deserved it all...and I got a big warrior sitting on my chest at least 5 nights a wee PURRRRRING as though he was a demented motorbicycle.... I miss The Captain...my captain! ^--^ pussycat

@@theresaprice1365 Thanks 🤗 i was blessed with him, he was such a good boy. He amazed all of us as he refused to die and came back to life. Even the vet had no other explanation than "he wants to live again because he`s loved and allowed to love". All of my 5 cats were former strays and my love for them changed their whole life. I think Cats need our love for their health and happyness. And they give back so much!

"You don't need to worry about bites or scratches with a Maine Coon." My Maine Coon didn't get that memo - he claws/grabs and bites me every morning, usually 4AM, while purring heavily.

I agree Meg, wonderful cats, trainable. Doglike. Thinking they would do well with the disabled as well, etc. Mine let me know many things, especially when I have visitors

My Maine coon is just over a year old and the best thing about him is when he gets the zoomies! Unlike my other cats, he sounds like an elephant running through the house....you definitely know when he's coming! He also loves to play fetch and brings me his toys so I can throw them.

I had a Maine Coon one time, and I heard him purring from the back of the house one time.

My Maine Coon likes to head “butt” me. We named him Midas because of the M on his forehead and because he was not cheap.😂. One of the best cats we have ever had. He is now 10 and I hope he lives many more years!❤️

I found a Maine Coon stranded on the street one night she was meowing for attention so I told my friend get out the car and get it for me and she is the best cat I ever had she is so loyal and funny I just love her I can't believe someone left her on the street like that

People are in the habit of dropping off cats in my neighborhood. I am currently feeding (off and on) 4 different ones. It stresses me out when it's cold outside, because I wonder if they are doing OK. While one of them showed signs of being adoptable, something happened to him and he now stops coming around so regularly, but clearly still likes me. He purrs a lot when he does show up. I do my part, but it's not what I would choose to have happening.

I have a maine coon cat (he might not be purebred but he’s at least part) and he’s the most loving affectionate animal ever. He’s so sweet!

I just started teaching my 10 month old male Maine Coon tricks today. He learned sit and lie down in about an hour. Now I wish I would have started earlier because I think I could teach him how to drive in a day or so. His name is Luca Brazzi and he is a shaded cream color. He is my first Maine Coon and I am not regretting the decision to adopt him . He is just great and I look forward to watching him grow.

My Half-Maine Coon will be 2 in September. When he was really little, he was a real shredder on my hands and arms. I'd have to use leather gloves to play with him. All the while, I was concerned that he would be dangerous when he got older. Now, he's a gentle giant. He will grab my bare hands, and even open his mouth like he's biting, but he never breaks the skin [except a few times on accident]. I never go to the bathroom alone.

My daughter loves to draw....one of the Maine Coons used to watch her avidly when she drew....one day the cat decided she wanted to try...she walked over to the colored pencils and repeatedly tried to pick up one with her paw like my daughter used her hands...after several tries the cat looked intently at her paws...then at my daughters hands....then with a shrug walked over and curled up on the coloring book and never tried to draw again(they are also smart enough to know what they cannot do and not bother making themselves crazy trying...they are uber intelligent...and has anyone made mention they understand language perfectrly after a few years...they do not always respong because they are cats...but they perfectly understand what I say to them)

Tell me about it. We have to travel quite a bit between countries. We've reached the point where no discussions of travel can take place - nor any baggage be prepared in advance (unless in secrecy). Otherwise if she's aware of the impending move she makes advance preparations of her own - disappearing off, curls into a tiny space somewhere - large as she is, she can do this by coiling tight - and then we have to rip the house apart to find her. We now plan strategically - catching her first - then a frantic packing panic afterwards.

I think we have one! He is hilarious. 6 toes, loves water, so smart and friendly with all animals. I didn't know he was until after we adopted him from a shelter and started researching. He isn't even a year old yet a huge! So happy to have found him ❤. Great video. Thank you for the information

Loved mine. He murdered everything in 10 square acres but a great friend. He would kill flies by chirping at them, stunning them and eating them.

I went to a regional cat show once. There were all kinds of breeders with their cats getting ready for the show, so they were all in their cages. That is, except for the Maine Coon breeder who had her cat out in the open. It soaked up all the attention that it could get, which was a lot. What a big love it was!

Didn't need a reason to get one. 'Camper' was gifted to my daughter from one of her friends. He's extremely lovable and wonderful to have around. He follows me around everywhere. Awesome little guy!😸

Mia is our first maincoon and I’m in love. She has brought so much laughters to our home.

Pretty much everything said in this video checks out with my own experience with my Main Coon cat. We used to let him roam outside, till a neighbor knocked on the door and asked us if that big beautiful cat was ours, and after we said yes, she said 'you gotta keep him inside! He's killing all of the wildlife!' Couldn't argue with her, as I'd seen the bloody results of his outdoor adventures laid on my doorstep on multiple occasions. He also preferred the company of dogs to that of other cats. His name was Hunter.

My MC was named Oscar. He was 17 when he died, and was also a fierce hunter. I saw him leap from an open window and catch a Cardinal in mid air. He survived twice being struck by cars and was an amazing pet.

That's Great 🥰. I have a Maine coon now too. How can someone give there Maine coon up there so sweet and loveable. I also got mime in a shelter he is only 2 years old and they said he would attack people but since the first day he gave me kisses and love and only gave me loveable bites.

I loved my Maine Coon’s endless talking. A comment on everything. She did not meow, she chirruped. I could to tell exactly how she felt by the query in her voice. Her gorgeous floofy tail also spoke a language of its own. And woe betide anyone in the house who did not respect it! She let me bury my face in her splendidly floofy stomach. I desperately miss that. I miss her with every part of me.

Thinking about either a Maine Coon or a Norwegian Forest Cat as a cousin and younger sibling for my Norwegian Elkhound.

Had two and they were by far the most intelligent cats I've ever had.. but the fur is just everywhere! I still find their fur nearly 10 years later I mean it's just all over

Same with mine, I also own a Burmese female and it has to be on her terms whether she wants to snuggled etc - everyone should learn that having a cat close to your face is really a stupid thing to do, cats have claws.

Make sure the cat's head is above your shoulder so they can see around. you will get a slightly longer cuddle as the cat can see many exits and feels less trapped.

My girl was a feral kitten when I took her in, and the vet said she’s got half Maine coon at least, if not more. Anyway, loves hugs and snuggles against me when I fall asleep. She believes the safest, best place in the world is in my arms, her head tucked under my chin. Heaven. Smart as a whip, she has me very well trained, watch out for these little angels, they plot, they steal, they ignore NO. Yep, you will be badly outmatched, but you will also be well loved.

My Maine Coon Lynx does get annoyed by my 3 year old son, but one of the best things is when he does get annoyed he does not act on it, he just leaves and finds a safe space to keep to himself until he is ready to be out and about again. Every once in a while he will give a very light warning nibble, but he runs away right after and jumps up out of the toddlers reach. Very sweet boy when it comes to tolerance. My son climbs on him and throws stuff at him so I understand lol.

a halfbreed ferral main coon found me, when she was around 3 weeks old .i didn't know ANYTHING about cats. vet filled me in , on WHAT adopted me. 10 years later , she is 15 lbs , 4 feet long (with tail), 10 inches high. and looks like a very imposing kitty. she guards me from EVERYONE , extremely protective of me. she actually GROWLS at people she doesn't like ( aka vet and groomer ). she does follow me constantly , she sleeps on me , yes i said ON ME .

Mine rips my head up in the morning then moves on to my legs and feet. The only time I get love is when I feed him 10 times a day. But he does follow me around and likes being in the same room. I love my boy! ❤❤❤❤

I love the idea of having a Maine Coon, but frankly, the only pets I will get will be rescues. My two cats, a handsome tux and an adorable little tortoiseshell tabby mix, came from the same shelter and they are lovely. I can't imagine nicer cats.

Every Household need at least 2.They teach people how to be kind.

My six year old boy was feral until he decided to come in from the cold three years ago. Now he's like a kid who is scared of everyone but me, but the kindest with the most intelligent eyes. He's been talking to me lately and learning to play. If I hadn't had my mean girl I think he would have sooner. She smacks him around even tho huge size difference. He finally hissed back recently, but has never bitten or scratched. He learned to shake hands in one day. He loves for me to hold his giant paw. Sweetest cat I've ever met, tho around other people he's suddenly..gone lol

My Maine Coon would sit on the dryer and as I put dirty clothes in the washer he would snag them with one swipe of the pay. So, basically, I loaded the washer twice. haha I would call him long boy, when he stretched out he was long like a bit over 3 ft.

I got my first Maine Coon this year. He is almost 3 months old and he is super Cute and caring. His name is Ciel 💕

I had a cat that the vet said was a Maine Coon. She must have been a mixed breed. She never got bigger then a kitten. She had all the personality traits She would wait in the window for me to come home. If I used the mouse on the computer She would sit on my hand. She talked alot, would chase her tail, and run inside plastic bags. The bags would get caught around her neck or paw. Then she would run back and forth. She would stop and make sure I was watching her preform. She was one of God's furry angles.

My Maine Coon...danced with me when I put Caribbean music on. He would play tag, hide and seek...open draws, cupboards and my vet asked to keep him for an office cat when I moved.

I really like them since i heard they were quite gentle and friendly apart from being total gorgs!

I have two, with a third one expected soon. Be warned, they are addictive😻😻😻🙂

I will get my beautiful Maine Coon Kitten in a few days...and I can't wait for it. Hopefully she integrates well with my 2 other Cats...let's see.

Many cats, my rescue Maine Coon is the best. 3 years surviving 24/7 outside with coyotes and traffic (lots of both), he's really smart and really tough, all dogs in the neighborhood giving way to him wherever he ventured, and we're not talking little bark bark dogs. My only advice is this breed is as close to dogs (I've trained several) as it is to cats. They love to talk and be talked to, are meticulous about their grooming, and learn habits (especially involving food) with a single rehearsal. Yes that last one is forever with this breed. Love this guy! And yes, they love to plant their 20lb bodies between you and your computer screen, staring at you while you, or me at this moment tries to type.

Before I met leo I think someone chopped a huge amount of his tail off. He lets me comb it, but he's so fascinated with my mean girl's tail. Amazing he's so gentle and loving. The vet showed me he'd been shot twice and has so many scars under his thick fur. But he completely trusts me. Just amazing

My Gus is a great Maine Coon cat. We got him with Mr. Rusty our tiger cat at the human shelter, 75 dollar for both of them... They are good buddies. I think Gus was mistreated as a kitten or cat and he does bit at times for some reason, but is careful about it..

I live in a flat with two european cats and one Nebelung (and a wife). I love Maine Coons, but I'm sure they need more space for comfort.

I would love a Maine coon for company I just love them so much Just out of my price line. I have been wanting to adopt one but no luck yet Would have a great loving family my husband and I no other pets Mine passed and is soo missed

My Maine coons name is athena... she’s my big girl. She loves cuddling and licking my feet... idky.... haha and she makes these super cute noises when talking!!! She also LOVES RUNNING THROUGHOUT MY HOUSE.... everyday I get home she’s waiting on the balcony for me

I read that they're fine with traveling; so you don't have to worry about them freaking out and possibly hiding under the foot pedals in a vehicle during long road trip, which means that they can come with you on vacations. 😀

Sorry sweetie, but all MCs do NOT travel well! I haven’t met one yet! This comes with from a long time Coonite who is slowly working with my 3 MCs into going in an RV for a major move. Its is taking months.

Leo never makes a sound but he's so afraid in a car that his bodily functions just let go. He's fine with the bath after, but really glad to leave that evil kennel
