There is so much info on Awls i suggest folks google "Awl tools" and dive in. Carpentry to cobblers used these wonderful tools and at one point the clothes that mountain men wore were sewn with awls first people's used them made from bone and antler.
there has been an awful lot accomplished with the help of awls.

Heimo Roselli...makes the hardest steel. 56 RCH. I own the Grandfather's knife and the 'long' axe. I can't imagine going into the bush without them. Great choice! Also...seems simple and obvious - BUT OF COURSE - allen wrenches for repurposing. Cheers from B.C. (Canada)

The Leatherman Awls annoy me, they're the wrong shape, an awl is meant to be a V shape !!
