When you listen to it the next hundred times or so you can start to hear how the lyrics reflect what the different instruments are literally doing at each part of the song. I'll let you discover those layers on your own, because that's part of the joy of listening to their music.

They give each other space. Play off each other to let each other shine. Any "one note solo" you think Adam playing is him bending a string to let Danny or Justin shine.
You are a great TOOL reactor. Not everyone catches the genius but you hear it! Keep going. Keep with studio tracks and lyrics on the side. That works

Pretty cool to think that out of all the times we could’ve been born into, we get to witness these guys. Sometimes dumb luck is good enough ✌️
This is one of the harder Tool songs to react to with all of the time signature changes. It will 100% grow on you with each additional listen and eventually the odd time signatures just become second nature. Such an incredible band.
Man oh man, it sure is fun to watch someone who's not into rock discovering a band that does it better than 99% of others.
It is entertaining seeing someone else find the joy in listening to this band for the first time!

Years ago, my wife and I went through a pretty rough time. Bad enough that most relationships would have ended going through what we went through. It was all caused by a lack of communication. It was also from strengthening our communication that we were able to come through it as a much stronger and closer couple. Communication is key to building and sustaining relationships, and this song is the soundtrack to it. Great reaction! You need to hear "Lateralus" or "the Grudge" next!
Having been a fan since the beginning, it is so refreshing to see new fans and the emotions they are showing. Tool is, as you said, a level above, level 6, no others. They do the music first, then Maynard writes the lyrics. Greatest band ever. Tool Rules! Getting to see them with my son November 4th. His first concert, my bucket list complete. A dream come true. Subbed brother. Danny Carey is top notch, they all are. Invincible is killer and Descending too. Hell, all of their songs are bad ass.

I've been watching your Tool reactions since you started with 'The Pot'. It's beautiful to watch you get your head around something so new and unfamiliar to you. If you're a lyrics guy, ignore those saying you should just listen to the music. Maynard's lyrics are genius and integral to the music (just my opinion, you do you, Bro). Spiral Out. Keep Going.
I don’t understand why ppl tell listeners to not bother with the lyrics as if that’s the only right way to listen to Tool (or any band). People gravitate to different things that make up music, and for some people (myself included) the lyrics of a song can play a significant roll in how well I enjoy and connect with a song. Personally, it bothers me when reactors DON’T pay attention to the lyrics. All that to say, if you wanna read the lyrics while you listen, do it, and don’t let anyone tell you you’re listening to Tool “wrong”
@sharilynbratton6476

It bothers me too! When all a reactor talks about are the instruments and music and they totally ignore the lyrics it's like they're missing the meat in the sandwich with some bands whose lyrics are as fire and as meaningful as the music! Drives me crazy ha but maybe that's the writer and the Literature major in me!
I saw Tool live in 2001 when they were touring for this album. 6 days after 9-11. That was an experience I’ll never forget!
At the start, I think you thought there was 2 instruments when talking about rhe flip flop, but both sides were the bass. Then when you said "then it sounds like something else is playing the same thing overtop, that's the guitar. For most Tool songs, all you're hearing is the bass, guitar, and drums, which is part of their genius, sounds like there is a lot more than there actually is
So much goes on in a Tool song. Love seeing music lovers faces when they hear the magic!!
10:50 - It wasn't until experiencing this again while watching this reaction that it more fully clicked: the reason every pocket is filled is because THE PIECES FIT. That's the whole message of the song, "I know the pieces fit." Awww yeee.

I just love to see people falling in love with Tool. Have fun here.
I've been hooked on Tool reaction videos lately, but you are by far the best KZreadr I've watched. So many people just focus on Maynard, or on Danny's drumming, and seem to miss the whole song, when what really makes Tool is that each song is an entire sonic landscape. That, and everyone focuses on the same one or two songs, and you really dived in. Tool is on tour right now and I hope they come somewhere near you.

More reactions should be like yours! The way you describe the thoughts you’re having and the way you work things out in real time is really cool (and adds something to the videos you watch, which is important). Love to see you enjoying this band as well! As far as the lyrics, I would personally say you are fine to look at them or pick up parts as you listen. Just don’t worry if you miss some and end up just listening to the instruments, because not only does TOOL fill your ears with the instruments and tend to mix the vocals a little lower so they blend into the rest, but the lyrics themselves can be a little complex to decipher. Basically just feel free to listen to whatever catches your interest and don’t worry as much about missing the lyrics (rather than avoiding them altogether)!
Your reactions to tool are priceless. Way to really take it in. There’s nothing like tool. Great work my friend you have a new sub.

I agree with you: each tool song requires multiple listens. It’s so hard to capture the lyrics and react at the same time. I may only speak for myself but I’d rather watch someone react to the music than follow the lyrics. Keep going with Tool - we are here for the journey!

Tool is known as being the most complex music ever! When it comes to reverse patterns, switches and just overall quality of knowing how it all works together. The crazy part is he writes for three different bands, who are all still active. Beautiful stuff.

So much "yes" to this comment!!!!
1:06 - That's again a rather good way of putting it, and it's all the more effective because of how complex and interwoven the different parts of it are. In mentalism magic (like Derren Brown) there's a type of hypnotic induction called a pattern interrupt. It crashes the mind by giving you something you know and getting you to start reacting to it and then switching it up and pulling you along. The opening of Tool songs also work like an induction to pull you out of your day to day mindset and into the moment, following like rats through the streets of Hamelin.
The reason the verse sounds so off but on beat like you say is because each bar of music alternates between having 5 beats and having 7 with other time signatures thrown in the chorus and bridges, this song is actual genius
Polyrhythms ………. They are the Kings, Dana Carey being the Emperor, these guys are next level.
This fan base will really support your channel. Keep going down the rabbit hole!
The song starts with the bass guitar playing lead and the guitar playing a base line and then the bass and guitar switch roles. They are infamous for doing that
you have done one off of each album so far accept the newest one , So i think one off of that one would be suitable , Maybe " Descending or Pneuma "

The lyrics are as important as the music, they work in unison.

You need to react to the official music video for this song. You weren't wrong to describe this as abstract art
I love seeing people react to my favorite band. Seeing it slowly dawn on you like it dawned on me is so fun. I wish I could hear these songs for the first 50 times again. Also, if you like the drum work here, you should try The Patient.

You nailed the meaning to the song
The way I describe how Tool plays is they weave beats and the instruments and vocals in and out of each other then meet in union and break back apart again. It's like a tapestry of beats and vocals and rhythm.
Can't wait for more tool reactions. Descending, invincible, lateralus, and the grudge. Pnuema is also killer

The meaning behind this song is the turmoil of a failing relationship. If you think about it that way the lyrics make perfect sense. "I know the pieces fit, cuz I watched them fall away"... anybody that's ever been in a failing relationship knows this feeling/thought process of trying to make it work or thinking we can make it work by "putting the pieces back together".
This video legit makes me happy to watch. It's awesome to see people appreciating the genius behind Tool. Masters of the signature changes and full spiral.

Whoever told you not to look at lyrics should be shot. Look, I love tool and have listened for many years. And I'll be the first to admit that the way tool is and they way they sing, you can't always understand what he is saying. I had listened to some songs for years without knowing what they were about until I decided to look up lyrics. In my opinion, it makes the music 10X more enjoyable when you know what they are talking about.

16:30 - Remember, there is a part between rediscoverint and strenghtening our communitation: "Finding beauty in the dissonance". Something to help you understand the lyrics, almost all Tool songs come from a place of personal growth. Recognize flaws in yourself, recognize the flaws of the world around you and do the work to grow and become a better person. By doing so, the world around you will become better too.
