I love the pancake flip analogy! Haha. Great reaction to TOOL again! 46 and 2 refer to our chromosomal count and evolving from 44 and 2 to 46 and 2 as a higher level of conscious being. You like shadow work and Carl Jung was the inspiration behind these lyrics. You stepped into the TOOL rabbit hole and got bit by the snake!

It always makes me happy to see new Tool fans being born. Tool is special to me in ways that music usually isn't. I really like your take on them and how you look at music. There is a great rabbit hole listen to Push It from the AEnima album. Then listen to Pushit from the Salival set. It is the same song, but flipped and rediscovered. My first Tool concert was magic. Before the last song Maynard said, "I want you take all the feelings you have tonight - I want you to go home and create something positive" Just beautiful, man

Tool are masters of the art of music. Not many can do what they do. With that said, if you haven't seen the O'Keefe kids cover of this, you are really missing out. It's amazing.

They mix their music so that all instruments are balanced. One being Maynard’s voice. They do a good job of sharing the spotlight with each other. Especially Adam Jones on guitar. You rarely hear a traditional guitar solo from him.. a rare band where the bass and drums are thus highlighted.

You might be ready for Lost Keys + Rosetta Stoned. They need to be listened to back to back because they tell a story. It's some of Tool's most intense work and takes you on an incredibly visceral descent through the process of mental institutionalization. Danny has remarked that he considers it the most difficult drum work in their repertoire.

The song is basically about introspection and growing one’s psyche into maturity and integrity. To become a whole being where the light and dark aspects of your personality are faced, accepted, and integrated. It is a painful process, as any exercise is. When one lifts weights, their muscles tear to grow back stronger. When one dissects and questions their beliefs, self story and ideologies, there is a period of discomfort as the ego resists all challengers. To learn one must first acknowledge their own ignorance.

I recommend Pneuma, both the studio version where you can break down the lyrics, but the drum cam video of Danny Carey focuses solely on his skill on the drums. I wouldn’t say he makes it look easy, but it’s so easy for him. He’s a master at his craft. Good work, Mug.

Tool isnt just a band you listen to, they are a band you LISTEN to. it takes a few sittings to fully grasp the music, let alone the lyrical content. For example, what other bands would take psychology theories of the mid 1900s and write a banger like this one. Every song is a journey with highs and lows and i love to watch TOOL virgins react. 4:20 - DUDE! You're familiar with Jungian psychology and Shadow Work?! Hell yeah. I had started typing the introduction to the Shadow and then just heard you referencing it. For anyone unfamiliar: it's referring to the Jungian concept of The Shadow, it's all about the Self that isn't acceptable to the Self and/or Society. All the parts of You that you can't/don't accept. However there's an enormous amount of power to be found in integrating the Shadow. Forty-six & 2 is talking about an idea that we're moving from a unified unconsciousness (the Dreamtime of the aboriginal people, at forty-four total chromosomes [according to Drunvalo Melchizedek which the song is referencing*]) through to our current uncomfortable situation where we're not fully conscious and not fully integrated (sitting at forty-six total chromosomes) to the future, another 2 steps into an integrated and unified consciousness. Digging in muscle memory to claw our way to a new level of being.

I love the appreciation for the phenomenal talent and production intelligence combination that we hear with tool! You should check out the first two tracks on 10,000 days album… Vicarious and Jambi… the way they transition into each other is pretty great! Also go see the band live if you get a chance… best show I’ve ever been to.. bucket list material

Loved watching your open minded approach to listening to new music that may not be something you would normally listen to. The language of music is universal!

Oh yea it must be xmas time for me! Im so happy! I get a bit impatient when I catch up to reactors on their Tool journey lol. Bro Ive watched about 3 of your Tool videos so far and Ive said this before to other reactors that they had been the best thus far for me living vicariously through them like Its my first time! Im not gassing you up, but you have taken that #1 spot. Bro you are genuinely more enjoyable to watch than all the last number 1's. For real! When you get into it and feel it you go all in fully emersed into every aspect of the song. Every instrument you describe to us how it makes you feel, with the vocals sonically and lyrically as well, which I have never seen anyone take that approach. You are a true lover of music which is so cool to watch. Especially when its the music that makes me feel the same way! Watching a fan in the making in real time from an outside perspective is fucking awesome! You literally got me over here laughing out loud yelling at my screen LETS GO!! While at the same time banging my head to the beat with you! haha Im Canceling all plans today now! lol

Gives me chills listening to this and your reactions are so genuine to feel the power and greatness of Tool. So glad you found them. They are all masters. What is your favorite song so far?

As others have said, Tool fans are not typically going to be bothered by the journey to discover and understand. As Tool songs go, this one is pretty straight-forward musically, although they do a great job of keeping it interesting. I've always thought he was talking about evolution in both senses. That we are a product of where we've come from, but also that we can intellectually evolve as well. The main riff is written to feel like a constant build. The overall song is constantly building. Evolving constantly toward enlightenment perhaps (?) at the end.
