This came out in 1998. I watched it in the theaters, and everyone laughed so hard people were falling out of their seats. But the biggest surprise was at the end. The man at the end of the movie, Brett, is a very famous American Football Player. In 1998 he was the Quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, and one of the most dynamic football athletes in 90's. The Packers is an American Football team located in Green Bay Wisconsin. When Brett Favre (pronounced "Farv") walked into the room at the end of the movie the entire audience gasped in astonishment. Mary had mentioned him in passing earlier in the film that she dated a guy named Brett, but that she was a 49's fan. The San Francisco 49ers is another American Football team located in San Francisco California. But nobody expected the "Brett" she spoke of early in the film to be the one and only Brett Favre! For a few months after that movie, every time I asked my girlfriend if she wanted to borrow my hair gel, she would punch me in the arm! lol :)

For me, Farrelly brothers movies are hit or miss. Dumb and Dumber was their best movie of course because it was a Jim Carrey movie and he’s the best. But I didn’t care for this movie… the only reason I watched it was because it was a big hit and I knew about it for years but never got around to watching it but I finally sat down and gave it a chance and wasn’t impressed. But I will say it was the best Ben Stiller movie in-spite of it being not very funny

Lia & Ellie Man at the end is Brett Favre who is former NFL Football player for Green Bay Packers. Brett played Quarterback position for Packers, Falcons, Jets, and Vikings in his 20 seasons career. Those other names are also NFL teams besides Packers. During the movie, Brett stated that he and Packers are playing against Miami Dolphins (same time as former player, QB, Dan Marino for Miami)

this is a very funny and odd movie. Quick story, I was in my 20s and my friend worked in the coffee shop of a retail chain bookstore. He ended up getting sneak preview passes. None of us knew what the movie was about since it had not come out in the theatres yet. I ended up sitting next to his mom for the movie. She was almost like a 2nd mom to me since I had been over at their house so much since he and I had been best friends since we were around 16. Anyway, she was fairly religious and when the "hair gel" scene happened i was feeling very awkward and uncomfortable sitting next to her. Then the next scene where Mary's hair is standing up came on and i kind of side looked to see her reaction. She sat for a moment and when she realized what had happened, she started laughing so hard she was almost crying. Whew what a relief that was... lol . After that I relaxed, and we all had a great time.

Love this movie!..; the Farrely bros had a distinct brand of hiding profound, touching messages about human relationships within gross-out & silly humor movies. This movie shows a very good example of unconditional love, he wanted Mary to be happy even if it meant not being with him, and she saw that. The others wanted Mary for what she could give them.

Yes, the fact is that English is not their native tongue and that they grew up in a different culture; so while we Americans find these jokes funny; they never translate well into other languages and fall flat or don't make sense in other countries. If we were to watch a Bulgarian comedy, we would not laugh while a Bulgarian audience would be falling on the floor.

@@sylmyl That was a bit snarky. If you don't laugh at a joke that Americans find hilarious does not mean you don't get; it means you don't find it funny. I understand now. With all due respect I was not referring to women being stalked or people in a wheelchair. We Americans find it absolutely hilarious when on a first date the man has sperm hanging from his ear and the woman assumes it hairgel and proceeds to wipe it in her hair. Or when an awkward teen carelessly zips up his pants and catches his penis which becomes stuck.---Those are funny in this country. Have a wonderful day. 🙂

It was actually his load of baby batter. He was so excited that when he blasted off it flew up to his ear and due to is high viscosity it stuck there and never dripped off. Mary thought it was hair gel and proceeded to put it in her hair. They didn't get the joke. If you're familiar with the science of c*m, as it dries it does hardens and behaves as a glue which is strong enough to hold up her hair with no problem. When I was a teen I used this white towel I kept hidden under my bed. I used it so much as a repository of loads, that when my Mom was cleaning up my room, she thought it was a kitchen plate.

Great review as always. Lia's facial expressions while Ted is fighting the dog are priceless 🤣👍😁 The weird windows on that door are called jalousie windows, they used to be very common in Florida. The guy Brett is Brett Favre, he used to be a quarterback for the Green Bay Packers in American football.

They didn't get that joke either. It's an American idiomatic expression. Beans refers to a man's nuts and Franks means his penis. It's not funny either if you translate it into Bulgarian. It's only funny in English. Not all American jokes translate across other cultures and languages.

@@ctwhiskey3058 yeah I know it was a hit movie, but I personally didn’t care for it. And you’re right, I’m not a Ben Stiller fan… he’s terrible! But if I had to choose what the best Ben Stiller movie would be it would be this one even though it’s not that funny. For me, Farrelly brothers movies are hit and miss. Dumb and Dumber was definitely their best movie because Jim Carrey is the best, you can’t go wrong with him. But this movie wasn’t good and it had alot to do with Ben and because he sucks as I just said

I really enjoy your reactions, but I had to stop after 5 minutes. Not sure if it was your reactions to the scenes or your editor, but you cut out every good line from the start of the movie. Maybe this is a difficult movie for non-Americans due to a lot of inside jokes or something, I don't know, but cutting out "have you seen my weiner," the piggyback scene, the father answering the door, "we have a bleeder" and about five other great scenes to start to movie was too much for me.
