For the one who has already, and those that will in the future, Jon Pall Sigmarsson deadlifted 815lbs in a meet and 881lbs in a gym. Like EB said, focus on the quote, not the lift. He was also 4x World's Strongest Man, so say what you want, he's stronger than you. R.I.P.

He had a congenital heart disease and was aware that doing deadlift could kill him, that's why say that there's no reason to be alive if you can't do deadlifts. He died deadlifting in a gym.

Please bear with me if I'm wrong, but when somebody says stuff like that on the Internet's there's a high chance he doesn't even lift. Try doing 20 reps on reasonably heavy deads, I guarantee you'll be out of breath once you're done.

Buffalo Bob A documentary on him said that his aorta tore in half. So his main artery couldn't handle the pressure. This is actually near unheard of in training. But under these extreme loads? who knows.

muzza913 he actually died from a torn aorta. no drug can cause that, it can make it more likely to happen when the genetic defect is there, but not cause it.

I still think the quote is "There is no reason NOT to be alive if you can do deadlift"... I think, not sure but If you read it that way then it doesn't mean that there is no other reason to be alive, he simply means that there is no reason not to stay alive if you can do deadlift.. where as if you turn it around like the title, he's basically saying no reason to live if you can't do a deadlift which i highly doubt he would utter even though the Icelandic subtitle is saying this, they have been wrong more then once..

I just I have a hard time believing he would say it, I listened to it about 100 times and I just I can't hear the first part because of all the cheering.. I just hear him when he utters "NOT to be alive" or what word could come instead of NOT there because he yells that part, then he is barely holding it up when he finishes the sentence... that's why my thinking goes to ".....NOT to be alive if you can do deadlift" But i wasn't there, I know he doesn't mean bad by it but if he said actually that there is no reason to be alive if you can't do deadlift that would be quite harsh..

Deadlift is actually lifting any object with no momentum. There is no definition of from which height
