People, to be a runner, a writer, a comedian, a policeman or a nurse IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. To get into Rupert's explanations IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. That simple. And it's not about being a genious, it's about BEING INTERESTED IN and wishing with all your Being, to understand this kind of matter.

Hey there:) exactly. I sometimes get surprised as well how much people struggle to see some simple obvious things. See, noone believed when i was a teenager that i would ever make a good waitress. My hands were shaking, i had no self asteem at all. Zero. But, who would tell, against all odds i went abroad and made an excellent waitress. Even that when i returned home i was kind of famous for having a great skill (i live in a very small community). I was no waitress material, but it turned out i made an excellent one. Could it be that the reason i made such obvious transformation and achievment stemmed precisely out of pure incompetence? Could it be that it's the misperception and misunderstanding, a complete incompetence in the field of advaita that fuels your journey into sheding light on reality? I mean, dont get me wrong, your comment is as good as mine, to be honest. I first out of all get preplexed of how much people complicate easy simple things, so i thought, hey, i agree but there's a but to our viewpoint. It's a lengthy one, and i went on talking about simplicities haha

Hi Honesty the Fenix, the "I" that wishes "to understand this kind of matter" is the finite mind! It will only be able to get to the border of itself, but will never be able to "cross over" and "become" AWARENESS!!! You could compare it with the user (Spirit) that plays a game on a computer and the character (body/mind) he plays in that game. They can never really meet! They represent a different order of reality.!!! But if the wish is strong enough to push you forward in understanding, it means that you are being called to return HOME! And hopefully you will make the jump (mind => AWARENESS) in the end!!! Namaste

Super stuff as usual. Rupert digs in on this one, you definitely needs to revisit this to first understand the message and finally SEE the picture or as he puts it...to just "get it." Mind to mind transmission and reception is ultimate (but very deceptively difficult) communication. This shows the limits of the thinking mind...and how difficult it is to let go of our conditioning to over think....

The closet we come to God’s most beyond state is when we are in deep soundless sleep. When we awake from deep sleep, the mind will look at the time and say “ it’s 6 o’clock.. I went bed last night at 1 o’clock and woke up at 6. So 5 hours of time had elapsed. But the mind was not present ( it was dormant) in deep sleep, so that’s the minds interpretation based upon its finite limited nature. But in reality, in deep sleep there is no time , it’s a timeless state; in other words time ceases to exist ( only dormantly or latently) in sound sleep. So to experience the sound sleep state; in other words to be AWAKE in deep sleep the mind has to disappear permanently. Rupert is correct about the gap between thoughts being the true Reality; or any gap ( cessation of thoughts) whether it be the gap between thoughts. Between the Dream state and sound sleep state or between the sound sleep and gross awaken state ( we call the world of body forms-human or lower forms of evolution). Avatar Meher Baba said it best when he discoursed the following: “Mind wants to know that which is beyond mind. To know that which is beyond mind, mind must go-vanish, leaving no vestige of itself behind. The humour of it is, the mind, which is finite, wants to retain itself and yet know Truth, which is infinite. This is the position of those who seek Truth through intellect. Few grasp this fact, and so most grope and grapple in vain. “ -Meher Baba

Good talk. The limited mind can only construct a view of reality that is reflective of its own order. So our perception is a form of projection occurring within such a mind. The upshot is that our view of reality is entirely distorted as long as awareness is operative within those parameters. The burning question becomes how do we begin to see beyond the boundaries imposed through the constricted framework of consciousness?

This seems to overlook memory. The thoughts are aware of the previous thought and considerate of previous thoughts. So memory ties them all together. Have you ever thought what was I thinking about then scrolled and remembered ahhhh I was thinking about that and continued to have your thoughts about whatever. You continued to have a thought. You scrolled through history to remember what you were thinking. Somethings controlling that process. This idea that thoughts are just bouncing up without connection is something I’m struggling with.

Desire is the only agent in the chain of causation. Awareness simply knows the arising of desire, creation of the seeker, satisfaction of the desire, and death of the seeker. The linking of these patterns is the structure of identity. This pattern is what the narrative self is composed of. It’s driven by natural law. An ideal universe (made of consciousness) is still naturalistic (governed by observable, deterministic, laws) Freedom is simply the letting go of the self that is the shadow of desire, and resting as the unconditional knowing of all activities without seeking or avoiding

In the beginning Rupert says 1st thought is "coffee or Tea?" then there is a blank or silent pause and then 2nd thought arises and says "tea." He says there is no one who made a choice in between the two thoughts..meaning there was no thought in between the two thoughts saying "uhmm, let me decide." then yes he is correct. But in life most people spend endless hours in between thinking and analyzing before arriving at a decision or a choice....so in between the two illusory thoughts there is an illusory "I" person choosing.....all of this when the mind is active with the illusory person-identity present. ....so in this illusory world there is a "person" making choices...there is a chooser and a choice, although as part of the illusory drama. However, when the mind is not present, thoughts arise without the illusory "I" there is "no identity" there no one there to choose or to do anything....in the Diamond Sutra Buddha talks about giving as something that arises or overflows naturally as it is our (consciousness) nature without having to think things through (the illusory "I" or person identity is not there). An enlightened one does not regard oneself as the giver or being some benevolent being that owns something that is his to give, nor does oneself see the recipient as someone in need or deficient in some way. Both are single same consciousness.

Good explanation. We only connect to the soul (Atman, Rhu, Spirit) through silence. Thoughts take you away from that connection back to the ‘I’. As Eckhart Tolle says enjoy the ‘play of form’, the body/mind/intellect. We are none of these but much deeper awareness/soul Bless Jas 🙏🏾

But you should not exercise such hatred for Mooji he has done nothing to harm or hinder, he does also seek the truth like you, have your masters teaching been ill gotten and thus they are ill gone? Nor should you express such love towards another one who is flesh like yourself and hence containing sin, your love is rightfully deserving to God alone. Not another. No, absolute awareness has no preference of any sort, so it never chooses anything, just as the sun does not choose to shine or not. Absolute awareness is watching a movie. In the movie, characters do not choose anything, it is all in the script already. As Spira says, the movie is viewed by the "self-aware screen" - which is the only "I".

But my question is "from where does the thoughts of choices even appear". "What" is seeding these thoughts in front of the awareness? Is it the sub-conscious or the super-conscious? The thought appears in mind, so the mind is not creating these thoughts! But who is creating these thoughts then??

I have a question that I have thought about and I see nobody asking: If time is the filter we see trough reality in out finite mind, how does consciousness experience itself through us, if there is no time. He has said that we exist in this finite form so consciousness could see (experience) itself from the outside. How does consciousness unravel. There must be a movement, otherwise it would all be static and we wouldn't exist. Good luck answering that. You can thank me later

There are parts of this that I agree with, and there are parts of it that I don't. The idea that I don't have a free will and cannot choose for myself is seeing past the mark. It is because we are beings who live within this dimension we call time allows the possibility of choosing.

@@Westeroni3 I respect your opinion, but I firmly reject such a narrow view of the human experience. We are not mindless automatons going from one meal to the next; one physically gratifying experience to the next. We are conscious living human beings with an ability to choose for ourselves what we will or will not do with our lives. Innate value and morality are prime examples of this concept. If I was a mindless complex organism, then I would just be following what my body wants when it wants it, but because I'm NOT mindless, because I am going about using my free will to choose, I'm NOT just doing whatever my body wants.

@@TheBeardedSandman I did not say you were mindless. You wrote this comment because you felt a stronger desire to reply than you did to not reply. One want overpowered other wants in that moment, so that is what you did. We are very complex, in body and in mind. But what we truly are is neither. That is just how I experience it, I can respect that you can not see it that way. Side note. Just because I don't believe we have a will of our own, to choose separately from the flow of life as we move through it, does not mean that I don't feel a sense of responsibility to do what I feel is the right thing to do in each moment. But after each day, I remember that I was brought to the end of my day, and things were done, and decisions were made, but they would have happened all the same whether I chose to or not and I try to give thanks and credit to the Prime mover, to God, to the infinite, whatever you call it.

@@Westeroni3 Here's why I disagree. First, a man comes home to find his wife with another man in bed. He gets angry, grabs a gun from the closet and shoots both his wife and her lover. He gets taken to court and says, "Judge, I had no choice. Because my wife cheated on me, and because I had access to a gun, and because none of us have free will, I had no choice but to shoot them." Do you think that judge or jury would exonerate him based on the argument that he really didn't have the ability to choose and therefore has no accountability for his actions? You said so yourself, you have a sense of responsibility. So how do you reconcile this? Second point: what is love? The ability to care deeply about another human being in such a way that you would expect nothing from them in return. If we don't have the ability to choose, then love is an illusion. Just a complex array of chemical reactions inside our bodies driven by evolution - love would not exist. Love for a parent, sibling, spouse, etc. none of these would truly exist. I would submit that love truly does exist because I've experienced love myself. I as an observer can recognize, accept, and choose to love another person. This requires choice. We have an innate ability to choose.

This is really quite profound in terms of how the idea of a self "chooser" is merely fabricated though the identification with a series of thoughts that are really just arising from infinity or whatever. The pat that I don't quite grasp is the absence of causation. Even without a self being responsible for the "choice" thought (in this case "coffee"), the thought "coffee" is still arising only as a response to the question. Isn't that, by definition, causality?

I wonder if the indigenous American Indian thought in a much simpler manner and was content without posing such questions? Putting food on the table keeping tents warm was the real goal for them.As a much younger man I revered Krishnamurti the great man. Trouble is that I was tied into knots by his piercing and incredibly honest and to me very complex and not simple to apply at least for me. words For me seeing the beauty intelligence and honesty of the person put him sadly on a huge pedestal the anti Guru stronger than all gurus. Unfortunately that is exactly what he did not want. But you see in music we all put Bach Beethoven Brahms on a pedestal so why not Krishnamurti as well?? I was probably not clever to go with the observer, which is the observed or many other of his observations for which he sought no praise or ego related BS. Clever to say those words but to have it help one's life a different story. Living for small moments in the moment but few can for more than an augenblick! I am a classical musician, and when I am in the moment as in a concert or practicing but with many, many blips of thought bombarding the musical continuity. One must be very conscious not to use these definitions in order to play a kind of intellectual game often like disassembled car parts left, not put together in no way a put down and guess I always try to find a way or release from painful thoughts. Happy those who are in the groove and greatly helped Bravo for you!

"You can only have one thought at a time." What is a finite mind doing then, when in meditation, internally repeating a mantra and at the same time catching the attention drifting off into thoughts or thought after thought whilst still repeating the mantra, and in the background, thinking of pulling the attention or awareness back to its source? Even if in a previous discourse it was said to let the attention or awareness observe itself coming and going. To me, that is a state of many thoughts overlapping and going on simulateously.

Interesting thing to notice is how much pride human kind takes in the ability to make choices. We take pride in god given intelligence and assume our spot on top of the food chain. We believe and atest to something called "free will". We pick a cruise over hiking. Hiking over TV watching. It provides us with a sense of control. A sense of power. We are intelligent. We can choose. Do you realize that in order to have a prefferance and to have a choice first you must be exposed to conditioning and it is from there that you can preffer at all. It would not be possible to make a choice without slaving to an idea. And that has nothing to do with freedom, i mean freedom and choice are two contradictions to begin with. So the free will thing is a paradox assuming a legitimate place from the view of a finite scope. But in the view of the infinite, there is a sense of freedom which is not affected in any way. And on that level there is simply no other choice but to be what it is. Freedom of choice is yet another great joke told by our conditioning. Lol haha

  • @theself5738

    @theself5738

Absolutely agree. Free will is just an illusion because those thoughts come from conditioning which came from our own ancestors and society, so that's why we tend to repeat behavioral patterns of our parents, grandparents, etc. and think that is free will and that we are so independent. I used to take pride in this too, thinking I had ownership over "my life." But it wasn't even my "choice" to be born! The minute I learned that there is no choice, but rather that "free will" or conditioning just delays the inevitable, it was a huge relief for me. Because my "free will" or conditioned self has been making useless choice after useless choice, all in the attempt of finding happiness, and never did. So when I started to surrender to the emptiness or the larger being and said "not my will," it was a huge relief and burden taken off my shoulders. To trust the awareness/higher power is much more freeing as it reveals the blueprint for my life. I just have to continue following the higher will because that will get what my little self is seeking all the time anyway.
