Therapist Reacts to LEAVE ME ALONE by NF

Музыка

Therapist analyzes the lyrics of Leave Me Alone by NF to discuss doubt and the way it can feel like it threatens to overwhelm and consume us. We often spend a lot of energy trying to fight all of our doubt at once, and like the song suggests it can be helpful to face and release the doubt one doubt balloon at a time.

    FYI -- The balloons represent his 'burdens' -- in this case 'doubt' is one of his 'burdens'. They are referenced both in the lyrics and through videos. As a lot of people pointed out in your first reaction video NF links all of his videos together essentially and has been telling an ongoing 'story' since the first video that he continues to weave in with each video. He is the king of callbacks. I really hope you get through a lot of this older stuff before jumping into HOPE or you'll miss literally a decade of callbacks. NF doesn't do anything by accident. If there's something in the video you don't understand it's either him linking to something in the past or foreshadowing something we'll see soon.

As someone that's dealt with depression for over 20 years and multiple attempts at suicide, music like this truly resonates deeply with my soul. But it is nice that you break it down for people that may be struggling to understand mental health. Thank you

    @@HeartSupport when you've been through the darkness and still struggle with it every single day, you don't want others to ever feel that way so you do whatever you can to make sure that they don't. Whether that's by making people laugh, giving them something to vibe to, or just by saying something nice to build them up. It's so easy to do and yet so many people take for granted how much such a small action can turn someone's day around. When I took psychology I came to the realization that a lot of the people that were in my class were there for the same reasons I was. They had suffered in their lives and wanted to make a difference for someone else. I don't know if that applies to you but that is what you do for us. I wanted to say that I appreciate your reactions to these songs... I also value your professional insight as it kind of validates some of the feelings that these songs inspire in me. I wanted to recommend on top of all the great recommendations in this thread... "How could you leave us" ... I am 48yrs old and have a 19 yr old daughter who lived this song ... I will never forget the day I heard it playing from her room when she was 12yrs old after a "self deletion" attempt and I listened to the words from downstairs... I literally sobbed uncontrollably (but quietly) for her as she played it over and over again... someone finally was able to "reach" her. I truly believe that NF helped to save my daughter. "Happy" is a song that speaks to me, as someone who struggles with "a reason" almost everyday.... this song spoke to me, in my soul.... As you have noted, I don't know if someone who has not struggled with mental health and self worth can understand the relief of finally understanding that "you are not alone" in how you feel.... Anyway, "How could you leave us", "Happy" by NF (bring tissues for both) and I think you'll like "Chalk Outlines" by Ren/Chinchilla

    if you go back and watch the videos visuals, it tells this story: of how all of us have our burdens (the black balloons) and wear a mask (the black make-up smile) and wear our black clothes (possibly open to interpretation or i missed something, but to me it feels kind of like self-enforced loneliness or maybe hopelessness) all around him are people getting help with these things (remember at the end of the search somebody offered him a set of white clothes) and NF sees people getting their mask washed away, and exchanging their black clothes for white clothes, and getting relief from their burdens by sharing them (like with a therapist) and he also sees where he'll wind up if he doesn't seek out this help (the old homeless man in black with the same shopping cart still tied to the same clump of burdens) and finally at the end he has the courage to start the process of letting himself be helped

    From Lisalovesfeathers: @rickthestick6995 Hi Friend, Thank you for your comment. • @HeartSupport

    @HeartSupport

    2 ай бұрын

    From jpaga: @rickthestick6995 Hi friend, You’ve also perfectly described me there. Due to a mixture of things I tend to avoid stepping out of my comfort zone and stick to my routine. I tend to avoid spontaneous plans and need much time for mental preparation if I am to do something new. I think the problem here is the avoidance. I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but the more we avoid stepping out of our comfort zone and the more we push things away, the more we make things difficult for ourselves. It is completely natural to stick to what we are comfortable with, but it also ends up limiting all of the new experiences we could have! It does take time and effort, but when you are ready, I think that recognizing those moments where you have the option to avoid or embrace a new situation and trying to choose the latter will be beneficial in the long run. It was very hard for me to do at the beginning, I too would get very overwhelmed and regret stepping out of my comfort zone (and still do to some extent), but it does get easier. And most importantly, I know I am making things better for my future self. What you are experiencing is completely understandable and I am willing to bet also quite common, but striving for our growth is so important, and one step at a time, we should always try to do what is best for us even at the cost of some discomfort in the moment. I hope this can help even a little bit, but just know that you are not alone, that I wish you the best, and that we will always be here to listen whenever you need someone <3

  • @HeartSupport

    @HeartSupport

    Ай бұрын

    From Micro: @rickthestick6995 Stepping out of your comfort zone requires so much energy out of you. It makes completely sense that, most of the time, it turns out to be an exhausting experience, and something that you wouldn't want to come back to. When you go beyond your limits of the moment, you are actively facing your fears, and that is such a HUGE effort! Something positive though, is to keep in mind that in the midst of the overwhelm, you are learning to stretch those limits. My therapist used to tell me that I worked on extending my comfort zone, rather than stepping out of it. It gives me this image of something that is actively growing, not an experience under parenthesis. When in doubt, and when overwhelmed, it often helped me to remind myself that these experiences accumulated are making a difference, even if I'm not feeling it yet. It's like being head first in the intensity of the work, then at some point you have the possibility to take some distance and see how much you've grown over the years. If anything, we're so very proud of you here for not letting your fears define you. You are building resilience, and that is so strong and courageous of you!

    From djstarion: @attilaasd4747 Hello friend! You're 100% right about the balloons. It's like since they're balloons we know they're there, and they may not carry any type of physical weight, but it's definitely an emotional weight. I also feel that over time, the helium will be gone, and those balloons will slowly disappear. If we keep doing what we're doing and being open with ourselves and taking care of ourselves, we can build up the courage to release a balloon. I wouldn't say pop it necessarily, but by releasing that mental balloon, you can visually see that progress that you made to get to that point.

You can miss out on a lot by taking the easy way out and letting anxiety decide what is and isn't right for you. One of my biggest regrets in life so far was not recognizing it sooner, I lost most of my 20's and 30's because of it. I know the NF story been a fan from his start. I love hearing people try to break it down who hasn’t been around. And I’ve never needed a therapist but seeing you I might need some help lol. You’re gorgeous…and I meant that with 100% respect not being weird. Just complimenting you and complimenting your reaction

    Love how you said “replace the word balloons with the word ‘doubt’”. I’ve heard this song a million times and haven’t thought to do that 😂 Also…love how he says “I can feel them weighing on me everyday” referencing the balloons, which are obviously weightless, but he can still feel them. Like how doubt holds no weight, but can still hold us down. Makes me think of the elephant with the stake in the ground, which makes it feel like it can’t move, when it actually can free itself at anytime. 😅😅the depth of his songs is insane! Great reaction! Got a new sub!

    Mansions is good because it sets the groundwork of what his head is. He describes the house he references in the search. Intro III is good because he talks to his anxiety and buries it.

    I've been following Nate's work for over a year now. I've seen several reactions to NF from psychotherapists on KZread. And I can say that your interpretation is the closest to reality. It's very interesting to listen to you, and I'm looking forward to the next episodes on NF. I think you, as a psychologist, should especially like his songs Mansion, Change, Nate, Therapy Session, Remember This and a number of others 😅 I myself am a novice psychologist from Russia, so I speak from a professional point of view.

    When I hear this piece, I think of Hi Ren. At this point in his life and fame, NF feels that he is losing the battle with his doubts and hurt. In Hi Ren, he seems to be further along in harmonizing his doubts , talent and anger in a balanced whole person (albeit with genius level talent and intelligence) I am really encouraged and learning from your incisive and enthusiastic reactions. I look forward to your journeys with NF and Ren.

    I’m skeptical of mental health diagnoses, but I was diagnosed with OCD years back. Never used it as a crutch, never really think about it, but “diagnosed with OCD what does that mean well gather round: that means I obsessively obsess on things I think about,” is a great way to describe it

    You really need to hop on the NF train! He has soooo many good songs, plus you are a great reactor because you get it! And if you want to jump on HOPE, there's so many things you need to understand aboute Nate and his songs before! He is a very interesting and amazing lyricist and his songs and stories makes us understand his life!
