Thank you for this analysis! It's so well done. I'd never heard of the Virgin's Promise and journey before, it fits so well with Thelma's journey. Will check out the book.

Excellent tutorial! I saw this film four or five times when it was still at film festivals and in the cinemas. I plan to revisit this film again tonight watching it on DVD. I’ve forgotten what a brilliantly layered film it is. Very cool art direction and production design and the cinematography and editing are pretty impressive. Great thanks to Ridley Scott!

Great timing, I've been reading the screenplay these last couple of days. Can you do "Sorry We Missed You" next ? It felt to me as if the screenwriter throws us into Act 2 from the very first scene, then kept telling us the Act 1 information through exposition. I've only seen it once though, so I might be wrong regarding the structure. Keep up the great work, these videos are truly priceless!

When it comes to wardrobe I always found the hair/hats most significant. As they de-girlify themselves more and more, they both 'let their hair down'. Louise abandons her 'tidy hairdo' and Thelma finally lets her hair get 'mussed up' and didn't care about it anymore. One of the last things they do is don their hats-- men's hats. They become sort of androgynous, having freed themselves from their oppressors (the men in their lives), gender roles, and social expectations that they had once even imposed upon themselves. When they are finally cornered by the cops, the hats blow off and the curly long hair starts blowing in the wind. It seems symbolic of the men trying to put them back in the place, to shove them back into their roles, to punish them for challenging those roles. T&L would literally rather die than go back to those roles, and in choosing to embrace death they choose to remain free, with their hair wildly whipping in the wind as they go.

I once wrote a paper on how Thelma and Louise possess polarities from each other and how crime enacts changes to those discrepancies and bring the characters even closer together! I have a video of my own about the character of James from the show The End of the F***ing World; if this essay interests you, I'd be much grateful if you could check it out and leave your thoughts!!! Love the video, by the way, I love the craft of story construction and screenwriting is certainly one of those forms of craft that I enjoy!
