It used to a man's world, but the heritage craft of making and repairing saddles and other horse equipment has some fresh faces.
Young women are plying their trade as saddlers in parts of regional Australia, making horse gear from scratch and matching it with the men in their workplace.
Amanda Purvis and Kelsey Roland have found their passion, combining their love of horses with leather work. They’re unlocking their creativity and say it’s even a form of mindfulness.
It's not for everyone though. Using leather can be controversial, but Kelsey and Amanda say they’re making the most of the hides from beef that would otherwise go to waste.

Wonderful!
As a seamstress/sewist, I've had to refer people to saddlers to have their items mended - some handbags, a laptop case, and a full cover bikie's gear. Ordinary sewing machines (even commercial ones) can't do it as they are cumbersome in their body design. Saddlers also have easier access to the heavy duty threads, etc.
