It's a 2nd 3rd generation Ranger. Most murrican trucks are uselessly large and for 90% of their buyers, it's more a question of status and clout than actual need. They are expensive, inconvenient gas suckers and most are being used in town which makes zero sense at all. The chinese truck looks far more sensible and useful.

For someone who wants a pickup the bed is so perfect, I've always loved trucks with external tie downs and folding sides. Usually its mounted like a flat bed or aftermarket aluminum beds which mean no wheel humps inside but tend to sit up high and have relatively short bed walls. This truck seems to take the concept of van tires, small but will easily give the extra space to eliminate a wheel hump while maintaining tall bed sides. Nissan has the perfect cheap pickup, the 2nd generation D40 Navara/Frontier. But my biggest issue with the truck is it does not offer a single cab, long bed variant in America. They are incredibly cheap and reliable pickups but older models with the 2.5 i4 came with a 6 speed manual.

this is an actual callback to the origin of the pickup truck, nearly pure utility, and for that i love it, though, i think they could do with tacking a couple hundred dollars on the price tag and bolting a turbo to that 4clinder, improve mph and hp and overall market appeal for anyone looking for a cheap fleet truck option.

the discussion about pick up trucks being to big is mostly one for the us market. for countries which import/use mostly Japanese trucks we are accustomed to smaller trucks like these. trucks such as the Toyota Hilux, Mazda b2500, etc. if you drive some of those fords down here you will attract a lot of attention, you would also probably need to go up a level from the regular car license which caps out at about 2950 kg here.

I bought my dads Dodge D50 (mitsubishi) 1986 pickup from him in '93, and he went out and bought the small Ford twin to your Mazda pickup, his complaint even with that truck was that the sides were higher and that made it harder for him to lift the metal parts over the side to put in the bed... roll forward to todays absurdities, and even at 6'7" it would be a challenge for me to load parts or pipe into any of the "modern" big pickups. Now, here on the Texas border we occasionally get to see a Mexico tiny pickup, Chevy has a really small one based on a car there/ and there are larger tiny ones like the RAM 700, (fiat something). What we need is for SMART CAR to make a slightly longer, Pickup truck version that can meet USA crash and emissions standards- now that would be fun.

Whats great about this channel is that you get to learn about crappy cars that you otherwise would never get to know about in china. Ive always been interested in knowing what cars in china r like compared to the US and how the use cases are in foreign markets. Would be cool to learn about Indian or Russian cars as well some day~

The pink model looks like it's running 12'' wheels. So tiny. Perhaps the concept models with those side moulding help to disguise that. Another fantastic report. Loving this channel very much.

When will someone make a modestly priced EV pickup? Ford got me really excited with the hybrid Maverick announcement, I just wish it would have come out like 2 years ago. I was hoping by 2022 I would be able to find a compact full-electric pickup for like $18-$20k starting but oh well.

There are three reasons for the weird proportion. One, Wuling wants to keep the crew cab but have the bed as long as possible (as this truck is known for carrying motorcycles), so they have to shorten the engine bay. Two, look at how close the rear wheel arches to the folding edge of the bed...the bed can’t be folded on the side if they put bigger wheels. Three, cost is everything for rural households in the developing country. The tiny tires are very cheap for replacement. And why they only offer crew cab? Because most of the time, a rural household in China only afford one vehicle for everything.
