I feel you so much about the popularity of mental illness diagnoses. I don't want to think of tons of mundane stuff I do in my everyday life as "symptoms". People have made they're illnesses their identity and it never felt right to me bc I feel like that's being forced on me too. I don't want to think every little thing I do is something "wrong" with me. It's actually made me not want to be diagnosed at all.

I feel like a lot of it is that when people get diagnosed, a lot of things fall into place about how it affects/effects your entire life. So people start recognizing possible symptoms in others and hope that helps you, the way knowing helped them. I’m not advocating for diagnosing others online, just saying I think it comes from a place of wanting to help 😊

I hate when people are like "it was clear that you're bipolar" or "you are so ADHD". They aren't verbs, they're real, disabling disorders that people struggle with. When I speak up about it, it's to talk about how bipolar is used as an adjective to describe someone, or how we should stop blaming everything we do on our mental illness.

It is nice when actual talented people show off their talents. That's the kind of content people can have a genuine connection to. And Drew is probably the perfect example of that type.

personally i have autism and a panic disorder and i think this type of awareness is important for a lot of disorders/disabilities that are lifelong/chronic and won't just go away with meds or therapy. it doesn't mean that every single person with a specific disorder or mental health issue absolutely cannot ever do this one specific thing, the point is that *some* people with these disorders might struggle or might not be able to do some things and we should try to accomodate them instead of making them feel guilt or shame. but of course it really depends what type of mental health issues and what type of posts that we're talking about because some of them are just super ignorant as a lot of things on the internet are. just wanted to add my two cents as someone with autism because i personally appreciate all of the recent autism awareness posts. :))

Just saying my experience was that the medicine wasn't working well for me anymore and I kept telling myself I have to take my medicine. It kept my in this cycle. Kept me feeling sick constantly. I stopped taking my medicine (yes I told my psychiatrist) and WOW.. my perception has changed. I feel more confident and awake. I feel more accomplished and proud daily. I feel.. alive, free!

@@OOO_BARRACUDAAA exactly! Of course AWAYS take ur meds when instructed by a professional. But I’ve had instances of having a panic disorder when I was young and my meds did wonders and I got better. Later on I had depression and I tried going back on those same meds before (they could treat anxiety and depression) but as an adult, my body no longer reacted well to meds. Sometimes it’s possible to get better and no longer need the medication you used to and I know so many people who feel they can never get better because they’re taking Medication at the moment.
