I knew you'll love that scene with best boi Ichikawa, he's a real one 😁 Even the entire Third Division are rooting for Kafka in their own way. I really love how there is never any petty drama between the members so we can just focus on the real problem, definitely one of the most wholesome anime squad ever.

I'm very curious to see how the next episode goes. Just like you have speculated, I also think that the likely reason for what happened right at the end of this episode, with Kafka losing control, is because of the kaiju parasite being somehow alive still within him, maybe partially merged with his mind, and when Kafka gets very badly injured, as a defense mechanism he just loses control. I saw within the mental landscape or hallucination, he imagines himself stuck halfway in a wall, and seemingly without the limbs that were cut off. He also imagines the parasite kaiju giving him orders. Does it still have full awareness and sees everything he sees?

From the way it’s controlling his body I’d say it’s likely that it has full awareness but I wonder if Kafka does too or is it like he’s locked away separate from his body

Kafka couldn't have picked the best situation to reveal himself and them hoping/trying to aid his return back to division 3 is proof of that, but damn insane timing for him to lose control.

Literally nothing else apart from his situation and "fighting on human side" in this anime is similar to aot (so far, unless I am missing something)

As much of a dork Kafka is, he is not an emo idiot like Eren. The only thing similar is that Kaiju wreck havoc like Titans do.

It may have some of the same aspects as aot (I refer to aot several times in my videos haha) but I also think it has a lot of differences that make it its own, specifically the vibe and tone of the anime. And I expect the further we go the more it’ll diverge from aot

For your question even hoshina is far stronger than mina tho she is far better with big kaiju and shinomiya is legit in a class of his own for reference even the current strongest defense force captain (which is not mina) never won against him even though he is way past his prime
