THE WORST SMELLING MOISTURISER I'VE EVER USED!

Few products smell as bad as this. I honestly cannot remember EVER smelling a product so bad. Amlactin smells like Gravy. It really does.

Agree, the Amlactin line is fabulous for exfoliation but smells truly awful. Especially the purple one, even worse. Definitely the acid that creates the smell. I mix it in with La Roche Posay's body cream and that helps a lot. Use every single night and will never go back

Amlactin can smell. It is great for keratosis pilaris on the arms and legs. Not all Amlactin lotions have that same smell and the odor dissipates on me. I use them on my feet at bedtime under socks. They help slough off calluses and make your nails healthier.

From Amlactin website : Our products are formulated without fragrance to minimize skin irritation. That said, the Lactic Acid salts we use in our formulas do have a naturally occurring smell that fades away after application. Some describe it as maple syrup, and some describe it as medicinal, and it can vary from batch to batch and with the unique pH of your skin, but have no fear - that just means it’s working! They also don’t use fragrance because it can irritate sensitive skin.

You have helped me so many times over the years that I've watched you. Now I hope my tip will help you. I have been using Amlactin for over a decade but agree with you about the smell. I have a body oil that is scented but does not cause a reaction on my skin. However, the oil does not exfoliate. So I mix a generous amount of Amlactin with 6 -7 drops of scented oil in my palm , mix and apply. Works to mask the smell of the Amlactin until whatever the cause, has evaporated. The oil I use alas, is discontinued. But the process works. Or try the Alpha 12% as suggested by another.

I bought Amlactin, and have a hard time using it due to the smell. To me, it smells like old coffee, with milk. It works really well to exfoliate and moisturize, and I don’t know what causes the smell, except perhaps their form of lactic acid? Despite how well it works, I save it to use only once in awhile. I also have a very strong sense of smell, so didn’t know if it really bothered others as well!

I buy the Amlactin crème and foot repair, and it doesn't smell at all, but when I purchased the Amlactin body lotion, I had to return it bc it was an off-white color (which it's not supposed to be) and it smelled rancid. I read other reviews, and most were saying the same thing...that it's either expired or just a bad lot bc when purchased from a regular store, it doesn't have any scent. Hopefully, this is the case bc Amlactin is a great product, but not from Amazon 🤢.

Wayne, the clue to the source of the terrible odor is in the name of the product. The main ingredients is ammoniam lactate which comes from ammonia and lactic acid. Lactic acid comes from sour milk. What you are smelling is combination of an ammonia, byproduct and sour milk. It really does stink. The 15% used to be prescription in the US and a dermatologist prescribed it for me one time for keratosis pilaris. It really does work pretty well, but I couldn’t use it for very long because it really does stink. Lol.

I bought AmLactin for my keratosis pilaris on my legs about a week ago after watching a KZread video about different types of "strawberry leg" conditions and how to treat it, and although it's only been a week, I have to say my legs are left VERY hydrated and silky looking after with no tacky, sticky feeling, but MY WORD DOES IT STTTTTIIIIINK!!!!🤢 The smell doesn't even fade, it just lingers all day!!!😭 Such a shame, because I have seen great reviews that this stuff really does clear up keratosis pilaris. If you have ever tried First Aid Beauty and their BHA/AHA product is also has the same smell, but a milder version of the scent. If you don't mind putting up with the chemical smell (which I don't if it clears my legs up) I would recommend this product!

I thought maybe the bottle I bought had turned bad. I’m happy to know that is not the case as I might have purchased another one! Yikes! Thank you for sparing me the expense.

I always thought it smelled awful too! (Sour milk, to my nose.) I could only tolerate it on my feet, under thick socks before bed. 😂

For me, the smell fades after I out it in. I out it on at night after I shower. It’s the lactic acid, same smell as sour milk. It works so well (and inexpensively) for my KP. An alternative is CeraVe’s lotion or body cream with salicylic acid.

Ammonium Lactate and Urea smell so bad.... you are not alone! I tried lemon oil and lavender oil in mine and it was just too over powering. You are not alone...

The best use for Amlactin is for your feet; not recommended for face or hands. But if you have cracked, painful heels it heals them when you use it twice a day .

I only use the body lotion and while it doesn’t smell pretty it’s not terribly horrible. And it does a fantastic job and smell dissipates pretty quickly! I have a feeling exfoliate has a much stronger smell.

I whack The Ordinary's Lactic Acid on my legs before I put moisturiser on them. Always wanted to try Amlactin though, smells don't bother me but I wonder what I'd think of it 😁

I do. Works wonders on my ashy legs. Gave it to my mom because she has super thin dry skin.

I couldn’t do Amlactin. Got the double pack too. I tried for 3 nights. Couldn’t sleep it was so gross. Also I didn’t like the texture of my skin in the morning. Kind of dull and dry. Glad for that actually b/c of the smell. It was a no go.

I haven’t tried this brand but I once used an Eve Lom cleanser and it truly smelt like an infected sore. I loved the product but I had to use it in the shower because I would often vomit from the smell.

I have this, but mine doesn’t smell. I wonder if it’s different in the US? Also, just because you get it from Amazon doesn’t mean it’s real.

I actually learned about Amlactin from my grandmother because she had a prescription strength bottle. Maybe it smells because it’s burning our dry skin off. Haha! Super exfoliating!

I have been using an Asian beauty brand called ma:nyob Galactomy Enzyme Peel Gel. It’s like a serum/gel blend that you massage into your skin and wash off. During the massage, you will get so much old dead skin immediately balling up and exfoliating. You then wash and -for my skin - your face will feel as soft a baby skin and so much smoother. I feel that my peptides and C and moisturizer and sunscreen absorb so much better with doing the 2-3 times a week. I ❤ it!
