Checo for sure. They need someone more consistent to put merc in some kind of stress. Checo needs better qualy s surely and if he does that redbull and even verst might have a chance to fight both champs longer in the year. Remember that vert had lots of dnf this year out of engine problems, accidents, etc. If they put both cars in points all races and max gets 3 to 4 wins, which is possible doing perfect races and hoping for the usual couple of mistakes that merc does per year, and lots of podiums they can defeat bottas and maybe get hamilton or at least fight him till the end.

Man i have a dilema with your videos jajaja i dont know if i love them or i hate them a little bit, my main language is Spanish and to get all the things and facts and numbers you are giving us 100 data per second is mind blowing. I always end up whaching them 2 to 3 times to fully understand them. Jesus, it s put my head to work hard jajaja which i guess is the idea. You always have this underground logical facts and opinions that really put thing into deeper pespective and i fully respect that and can enjoy. You make valid points in this one, redbull is trying hard to keep Verst focus on them and it makes a lot of sense to bring sergio as a way to calm their big gun. For me though, it doesnt damage their Driver Academy, they can always get back to that. They put tsunoda as a next plan B if Checo choice goes south, also having gasly and albon waiting if they need them some how. So by having alpha tauri they still have the power to lore new drivers for their DA. And still if that doesnt work eather, yet, any driver would like to drive that car, they can get who ever they want, the important one is still Verstappen. If they lose him thats for sure the big problem that could be solve with russel if Merc doesnt react fast on singing him first into the big team. Anyways lovely video, Thanks for all the effort and the details.

I think his tire management will be the difference maker. Albon was able to keep up when his tires were fresh, not matching Max, but not too terribly behind. But they would go over the cliff so quick, and once they did, he fell off the pace like crazy. That's why they'd pit him super early and always give him harder compounds than Max. Alex had the pace, he just doesn't have the tire management abilities like Max, or even Perez for that matter. His experience will help, but I don't think it was lack of experience and mental toughness that made Albon perform so poorly.

The answer to your question is BALANCE... You need balance in every situation and scenario. If a football team(soccer) promotes only from its academy, it will likely produce some top of the line talent. But if you don't surround those young talented players with experienced veterans, you won't win many trophies because young players need to be free to simply play the game, make mistakes & learn. Older players that have been around know how to manage the game, they can anchor your team when it's needed and accept responsibility & keep calm when things go wrong. If you keep putting all the weight of success on your young players, they will eventually leave in search of a better, healthier, more balanced environment to play in. Perez could be a key acquisition for Red Bull in regards to keeping Verstappen, because he'll know now that he doesn't have to carry the whole team on his shoulders. Only in recent years have we seen Red Bull attempt to put two young drivers in both cars and it hasn't worked. They were only successful with Vettel & Webber, if they had put Buemi or Alguersuari in the 2nd Red Bull alongside Vettel, they likely would've had the same experience as Gasly & Albon. And Vettel himself may not have won as many races or championships without having Webber as his teammate. In regards to Albon & the Red Bull junior drivers, there's no guarantee that you'll get your shot. It's a waiting game, and to expect to jump straight into the Red Bull, is just delusional. That's not how F1 works, most drivers start out further down the grid before being moved up. That's how it should be!! Gasly & Albon were moved up too quickly because of Red Bull philosophy, and it hurt their confidence & also hurt Red Bull as a team. Sticking with that now would only sink them further.

  • @JorgeRoddick

Albon only had half a year at Toro Rosso before being promoted in 2019. Gasly had 2 years with Toro Rosso before he was promoted to Red Bull. Gasly should've performed better. They gave Albon more time because 1. Marko didn't have too many options that time. 2. Albon had a better working relationship with the Red Bull engineers unlike Gasly who didn't. Red Bull really wanted to keep Albon but they made it clear he had to fight for that seat. This mess started when Ricciardo left and Marko treated that 2nd seat like it was an audition. I agree. I also think that Red Bull can, in my opinion, survive without hiring their own drivers. They're decisively the second best team in F1. The only thing that makes them undesirable right now is Max. If talented drivers from the academy leave it isn't because they "lost faith in the program". It's because there's a seat available at a more competitive team than Red Bull. I know they're in a tough situation with Honda leaving, them trying to retain Max and the possibility of not adapting well to the 2022 regulations but I don't think the academy will influence Red Bull's chances of success. As long as they remain among the best teams in F1 there will be top drivers happy to drive for them.

yeah great point, also like the other additions. Id also like to add something, CY said nothing about the damage to the brand if a failing driver is continuelesly allowed to drive that car. This is an elite sport, just the best of the best should be allowed to drive the cars and especially young drivers with a bit gullible views think of it that way. Sure money talks, they figured that bit but they still believe that if youre good enough, you will get the top spot in the top team and so far it has usually been this way. Giving albon another year in that car would just show the drivers that your performance doesnt really matter, loyalty is more important and that is such a bad message to send out. Id say it would have been best to put albon back to TR and give him another shot but tsunoda deserved to be promoted and so there had to be someone leaving on top of kvyat. And gasly mananged to win a race, albon didnt. I guess its thats easy. And yeah gasly was lucky to get that win but albon had similar opportunities, e.g. in styria but also turkey iirc. So yeah RB is serious and if youre not up to the task, you have to give way to someone else, someone who is. Thats a very important message for your DA. It is the other side of the coin that says: if youre good enough, you will get a chance to drive one of the best cars on the grid very soon. And thats the main selling point for the RB DA, they cant afford to give that up. Id argue keeping albon and invalidating that message would have done more harm than putting someone in that car that has clearly prooven he has the potential to live up to expectations. And last but not least getting checo shows that they figured it was the wrong call to get gasly and albon to drive that car. That also sends a message of faith to the DA, saying that you dont have to deliver Verstappen performance after 6 races in f1, youre allowed to take a bit of time to adjust to the environment before such demands arise. Its like the hiring of checo says yeah we are serious, we want to give you a shot and we know how to prepare you for that job and help you develop your talent to become a mega star. Where sticking to albon would have said well you can drive this car as long as noone else is around, we dont have any ambitions anyway and select our drivers by rolling dice. Sure overexaggerated but you get the point. And about a failing driver: I dislike that bs of "the driver outperforms the car", thats just not possible. As CY said, the best drivers will take the car to its limits and keep it there consistently. Albon was not able to get anywhere close to the limit of that car in terms of speed around the lap and sometimes struggled to keep it within the limits of grip. Thats not what RB want or need. That doesnt say Albon is a bad driver, its just the car does not work for him and he is unable to adapt to it. And thats why he didnt perform to the expectations, he underperformed. How close checo has to be to max to not underperform depends on what RB want from him. If its enough that he secures P6 every race and he does so then he performs to expectations of RB. Sure fans have different expectations and will call out differences but theyre not the ones deciding whos driving that car. If RB want checo to tail valterri so merc cant use valterri for strategic benefit or RB can force him to react with a move on checo and he does exactly that, he performs, if he doesnt, he underperforms. My guess is that this latter concept is the minimum of what most fans and experts expect from checo. And about Albon: People expect top drivers to adapt to any car and sure some drivers like alonso are able to do that. But some have their strengths in other regards and its the job of the team to compensate the weaknesses and boost the strengths. Something RB has done very well with Max but couldnt do with Albon and something Ferrari has failed to do with Vettel on several occasions. You cant rely on having the perfect flawless race driver driving your car, thats not a strategy to be successful as a team in F1.

The Spanish dam would declare that Carlos' talent always bothered Max and that is why Red bull did not want to upset Max by bringing Carlos. When Helmut was asked in early 2020 if he regretted not giving Sainz a chance, he said no, that in life there were two types of pilots, those who were uncontrollable and refused to accept orders and squires He said that Red Bull had always leaned towards the former, so at Ferrari Carlos would fit in very well, referring to the fact that he would be Leclerc's squire. Personally, I think that Red bull did not give Carlos a chance because when he measured himself with the Hulk, Carlos lost, and this did not help him and that is why they chose to raise Gasly, so I hope Sainz does very well at Ferrari.

Excellent video! One other theory I've had regarding Checo's signing, though one I can't prove so take it with a grain of salt, is the development of the Red Bull car. One thing I've seen mentioned by a few pundits is that the RB car seems to require a very specific style of driving to get the most out of it. This doesn't disprove the theory of the young drivers not being able to manage the pressure of racing Verstappen, but it doesn't contradict it, given how being put in a different feeling car compared to the AT would be a tricky shift. That combined with the sheer talent and experience VER has with the car, and it's certainly a mountain for any talent to climb, and it does fit in nicely as another reason why Gasly's 2020 season went so much better. As your video notes, RB is quite a closed garden compared to other teams driver structures, and while this has given them some world class drivers that would have left far earlier otherwise to Ferrari or Mercedes, it's also caused them to specialise too much with their car, in a way that seems to hurt any young driver right out of the gate looking for that RB second seat. And here's where Checo has a major advantage tied to him; he's an experienced voice with many years on the grid with many cars driven. Checo can offer that outsider feedback towards making the RB package not just a faster car, but a more manageable car, one that doesn't require VER's level of talent to perform well in during their first few years.

@@tylerwhite9360 But some drivers seem to be bad luck magnets and Lance has the signs of being one. He can drive really fast, both during qualifying and races, but when the moment is there for him to shine, something goes wrong. Part of that is driving in the midfield, where the competition is murdurous and where most accidents happen just because of that. But part of that is also Lance being inconsistent and crashing due to his own mistakes. For Lance to really make the next step is to consistently qualify higher up on the grid and get his starts right. Only then he'll be out of the melee in front of the midfield and can show what he really can do. Sadly for Lance I don't see that happening, because although he occasionally shows signs of being a pretty decent driver, he seems to lack those final few percentages that makes a driver a top driver. His switch from Williams to Racing Point kind of affirmed that: where in his first seasons arguably the Williams held him back, the Racing Point on several occasions seems to be too much for Lance to handle.

  • @y_fam_goeglyd
    @y_fam_goeglyd3 жыл бұрын

My thought is that Checo was hired for two reasons. 1) he'll be expected to be more consistent in the races than Alex by everyone not in Red Bull and maybe by them, and hopefully will assist Max get his best chance of getting close to the championship. 2) if it doesn't work for Checo, and he gets similar results to Alex, it will give them the option to bring Alex back (the RB company is part Thai after all, and they genuinely seem to be very fond of him) without giving anyone else any armour to use against him. If even Mr Consistency can't get close to Max, why should they bother looking outside their own juniors or test drivers (which Alex now is) to partner with Max in the future? And I he succeeds, they haven't lost anything, except a Thai driver. Basically, giving the seat to Checo gives them the chance to evaluate how good the car is with a typical F1 driver, because Max is, by far and away, better than your average driver - and let's be honest, the majority of F1 drivers should be considered to be well above average before they even get a seat. There are exceptions of course, but Checo is widely considered to be one of those damned good racers. I just don't think he's even close to Max or Lewis. I'm also not convinced he's matured as well as Max (look at both their last 2-3 seasons). Tbh, I was just as happy for him to win a race as anyone else in Bahrain race 2, but IMHO, he did something very unprofessional in the first one. His engine blew up and was chucking oily smoke out behind him. Of course I understood his frustration at missing out on a podium, but it wasn't going to make it another 3 laps. He should have pulled over asap and he didn't. He turned his smoking car into one on fire by continuing to drive, endangering those behind him and the marshalls who had to put out the fire, _and_ laying down potentially disastrous oil on the track for too long a time. I'm not blaming him for the engine going - shit happens in motorsports - I am blaming him for not pulling over as soon as he could. Bear in mind that getting extra parts out to the Middle East wasn't going to be an easy thing to do. Letting his engine continue to lose oil was putting other drivers at risk, as well as knowingly giving his team a mighty headache. Just MHO of course, but I stand by it. As ever an extremely interesting perspective. What do you think if Haas's latest Russian acquisition? IMHO they should have taken the loss of cash and booted him in favour of Schwarzman or Illot. That sort of behaviour isn't going to go away overnight.

However since his move to Force india, he consistently started to improve his performance even when the raw performance of Force india car declined. He always was able to have some outstanding performances each season. Even when you don't count this year's pink Mercedes results, you can clearly see that he made considerable progress since those early mcLaren days. Now let's hope Red bull can fix that aerodynamic mess they have at the rear end, and maybe they will have car that can (kinda) keep up with the Merc's.

I think the reason RB went for Checo is simple: They don't have a driver that can be consistently close to Verstapen. Whenever Max got a dnf, the car gaining that position should have been the other Red Bull. That did not happen in the last season. The Red Bull academy does not have a single driver that is ready to that seat. Gasly and Albon showed it already. They're just too green. That second seat has been destroying RB young drivers' careers. It's better to take it with calm and polish the diamond in brute that Tsunoda is.

I usually test something new every video and this time I tried to work in more of my premium stock footage. between that which can serve as more video options as well as my new image license provider, if people like this style I can make a lot of content. easily mutiple 8-12 minute videos a week which is what I'm testing soon

Checo is going to have to stay close to max while ricciardo gets an upgrade and I believe ferrari will be back to near normal. not to mention nando with a better renault haha all the while horner has basically said Honda are just about maxed out and their down force profile is set. so their margins are going to get tighter. checo is in a lose lose scenario honestly

@@CYMotorsport In contrast, Checo is on the winning stage. Let me explain it to you, but it will be long because there is a lot to tell, have some popcorn and make yourself comfortable because here is the real story: Contrary to what many people think, Checo does not arrive at RB for a year, he arrives there with a long-term contract, I know that RB declared that it was only for one year, but Red bull says one thing and does another (strategy of marketing). The video was great, because it addresses a content that few people have touched, but it is too far from reality (at least in terms of the why? Of the signing of Checo), you forgot the most important topic and the only one that matters in the f1, the economic issue. Remember it well, before being a sport, f1 is a business and decisions behind the desks are made with a cool head and numbers in hand. Hulk said it for ESPN: Checo has something that I cannot contribute, the teams not only make decisions for the sporting aspect, there are very large interests behind, commercial agreements that I cannot offer, f1 is very expensive, which Racing Point made him was not right, but it could turn into a blessing. His statement occurred long before the official announcement was made, that is, that the Hulk already knew that there was in no way a space for him in the team, and on the contrary, since then he knew that it would be Checo who would take Albon's place. . Of course, when I talk about the economic issue I am not referring to Checo's sponsors, which are important, but they were not a compelling reason either, as was access to the North American market.(Mexico, the United States and Canada), just in that order, since unfortunately Mexico is the world's largest consumer of sugary drinks in the world and in recent years Red bull has seen a decrease in the consumption of its beverages given that the Competition (Monster) has been gaining ground, what better brand ambassador than Checo, who, as expected, is much loved in Mexico and the southern United States (Not to mention the rest of Latin America), but my words are not no theory, but proven facts, there is an investigation of a technical legal expertise nature carried out by the consulting firm Percepción Pública and backed by Forbes that explains in detail how the signing of Checo began at the beginning of the season, to culminate with the signing of the contract (long term) at the end of October. In this multidisciplinary investigation, interesting data about both teams and drivers are also revealed, which may interest you, of course as long as spoilers do not bother you, I suggest you go to the Public Perception website, but above all to its You channel tube, which they opened only to explain the result of their investigation and clarify the doubts, currently they no longer upload content because they have fulfilled their social work and they retired again to anonymity, but if you still have doubts you can contact them via tweet.

@@CYMotorsport The investigation revealed, among other things, the main reasons why Red bull hires Pérez, the explanation is very broad but in summary it is due to the following: 1 Checo's sports results. Not only during this season, the previous years had a lot to do with it. So Pérez arrives regardless of his sponsors as Red bull wants to have two competitive drivers. Ferrari has sold us the idea that in all teams there should be first and second driver, but that's a lie, Red bull like to have two competitive drivers, otherwise they would have stayed with Albon / Gasly / Kvyat allowing them to develop, but they weren't going to waste such attractive advertising space (the car). 2 The brand ambassador Horner always dreamed of. If Helmut has his golden boy (Max) Horner's golden boy was always Czech. Perhaps not many know it, but Checo came close to becoming a red bull driver. Helmut recently commented that they had noticed Checo since his years in GP3 when they gave him a Test in Portugal, along with Dani Ric, he said that both had been just as fast in long runs, but that in qualifying simulation Dani Ric was a little faster. Despite this they liked Checo and they also offered him a place in their academy but he had to get rid of Escudería Telmex and abandon Carlos Slim, in the end Slim decided that Checo would go to the Ferrari academy, from then on the "romance" would begin with Horner. In GP2, Horner's team was the one who gave him the opportunity to debut and thus Horner, Checo and Slim would get to know each other better. When in the second race of the 2020 calendar Albon did not give the expected results, Horner knew exactly who he wanted, of course Dietrich and Helmut agreed and as the friends of public perception said if the signing of Czech was a pregnancy, Checo would be the desired child, planned and wanted. So Checo arrives strong at Red bull. 3 Meter pressure to Max. Horner and Marco know that Max and his father are getting tired of their empty promises to make him world champion, so the signing of Checo is a declaration of intent towards Max, you can leave, we can replace you at any time, not just any pilot of the academy, but by an external if necessary. So the arrival of Checo tries to remind Max that the team does not live for him and that if he leaves they have no problem replacing him with Checo (if he is close to Max) with Leclerc (if Ferrari does not improve) or Russel (if Mercedes does not take it into account soon). 4 Checo's role as a pilot developer. We all saw Lance's evolution during the first part of the season, but we also saw his crash during the second part that left him out of the top 10 even with the third best car in the championship. It is true that bad luck attacked him, but it was not greater than Checo's bad luck and even so he finished fourth. Lance, Tom Mccullough, Andy Green, Otmar Szafnauer and Pedro De la rosa would explain this event to the lack of support from Checo during the second part of the season, coincidentally after RP told Checo that he was not going to continue with the team. . During the interviews with the drivers before each grand prix, on several occasions Lance would tell Checo that the team needed him to get the car ready, but that personally, he also needed him to support it. Tom would tell the channel You had from Checo that he had a great sensitivity to make the team see what the car was missing, but particularly to correct Lance's mistakes. Green and Otmar were determined to get Checo back to racing for the second race at Silverston as in theory it would be when the car had more performance and Lance showed that he could not extract it and De la Rosa, a former f1 driver, mentioned throughout The season, that Checo's influence on Lance's driving was evident not only from the way he faced the crows, but also because he made the same mistakes as Checo, to the point that they were qualifying very evenly during the first few races. Of course, this guiding role is of interest to Red bull, not because of Max, whom he obviously does not have to teach, but for the younger pilots, since while Max destroys them, Checo supports them.

@@CYMotorsport 5 Your knowledge of the Mercedes engine and your ability to develop the car. This has already been revealed by Marco, one of the key points in the signing of Checo is knowledge about the Mercedes engine, a not inconsiderable knowledge of eight years. As soon as Checo learned that RP was abandoning him, he paid more attention to the car's evolutions, despite RP's attempts to hide them, we just have to remember how Checo complained to the press that he was being separated from the car's evolutions, And although RP managed to hide it for a few races, when Lance stopped delivering results they had no choice but to involve him in car development if they wanted to fight for third place in constructors. But beyond this fact. People believe that the RP20 was a copy of the W10. The truth is that the FIA determined that the car was designed by RP, yes, they had copied in concept of Mercedes, but the RP had done it and the only thing they could prove as illegal were the brake lines. Checo was involved in the creation of the RP20 from day 1. In March 2019 Checo gave an interview to F1 where he made it clear that that year they would compete with the evolution of the 2018 car, but that he would be patient, because they were already developing the car of 2020 that would surprise everyone. In May 2019 he was interviewed for Beyond the Grid and there they asked him if he did not aspire to a superior team such as Mercedes, Red bull or Ferrari, Checo said yes, but he was very excited because if the pilots knew what was moving behind the scenes at RP, many wish they were there. In November 2019, the f1 dedicated him a special article entitled “The podium thief”, when asked how he saw his future in f1 as he did not belong to an elite team, he replied that he was patient, because he knew that by 2020 the team The one that was going to evolve the most would be RP and that the quality jump would be very big and he would be there to take advantage of it. In December 2019 he gave an interview to the Marca Claro channel, when asked about the car for the following season, Checo said he was very excited, as he had been working with the team all year on the 2020 car and if the numbers from the simulations were correct, he could finally have a A car that had no problem fighting for the points, for the podiums and perhaps, if all went well, for a victory, and that would surely be giving a lot to talk about throughout the season, so I was looking forward to the season 2020. That was how he left clues throughout 2019 that he would be very involved in the creation of the “pink mercedes” and it is that knowledge that Red Bull is interested in, so after all this speech and getting back to your point, the future from Checo doesn't look bad, it looks very promising. You will be under pressure, yes, but all your life you have been under pressure, nothing is going to change. The Red bull team is built for Max, yes, that Checo knows very well and does not mind taking that challenge, after all, there is worse than being in a team where your partner is the owner's son and he It has the improvements in the car, the best strategies, the future assured and a better deal, in reality it does not change much compared to what you will find in Red bull, Checo has never been a person who is afraid of challenges, if you If he was afraid of Max, he would have taken the offers that other teams had made, because let's not fool ourselves, discounting Mercedes, what team is going to let a driver like Checo pass? fast, reliable, consistent, with sponsors, good car developer. None and that includes Ferrari, but I will be writing about that topic another time because this has already been extended a lot. Regards. I apologize for the English, as you may have noticed I used the translator.

Checo is not performing well either. Halfway the season he should understand the car and be competitive. But it looks that its going more downhill going on the season for him. This choise wasn't a good one by Red Bull. But it's always easy afterwards to say. At the start of the season i would have said that checo is a good option next to Verstappen. Besides it looks like driving next to Verstappen crushes your confidence more and more. This results in a downhill going performance by this driver. It happened to Gasly, Albon and now Perez. I think the next driver beside Verstappen should be picked on mental strength before performance. Ofcourse both have to be at top level, but you absolutely need both or your gonna fail with a dominant team mate like Verstappen. Last i want to say is that i really enjoy your videos. Really interesting and informing and also well edited. Greetz from The Netherlands!
