The WORST Reason To Open A Gym

Спорт

This video covers the most common why most people want to open their own gym. In my opinion, it's also the WORST reason to open your own gym. If you are thinking about opening a gym you should watch this video first because it might save you a lot of money, time, and hardship.

I pay 80 dollars (YMCA) a month for my gym member ship. For a nice squat rack, plates, and bar it would be around 3,000. Those are going to last for years and years of not abused. So, 3 years of gym membership to pay off equipment. If you are going to open up a gym you are most likely paying a mortgage anyways. Unless you live at home still.

xNAJAFx no way man...my home gym has everything needed (barbell, dumbbells, pullup bar, dip parallels, rings, squat (and bench :D) rack etc...everything costs like year or two going to normal gym...and it has bunch of benefits (calm, friends, for free, lasts like forever...) + if needed, i should just sell it...home gym is way better and cheaper

xNAJAFx yeah, i live with parents...of course when someone is paying a rent and stuff, gym membership is better for him...but when you have good place, lets do your own! and i also like that strongman stuff because if you have some tire or log next to your house, you should workout outside and for free

  • @thechairman74

You can shop around and get most of the basics for cheap. What gets expensive are the extras like dumbbells, and a lat pulldown. If you only make do with a barbell, rack, bench, plates and a pull up bar, you can do your entire workout that way. You can find plates for around $1/lb. If you can tolerate the loudness when you drop the bar because of the slack between the sleeve and hole, then you'll be fine.

  • @thechairman74

    @thechairman74

    7 жыл бұрын

actually you can go to Walmart.com, and get the cheap Golds Gym plates for well less than $1/lb. For dumbbells, get Olympic dumbbell handles and a bunch of 5's and 10's.

Yep. I'm in my 40s. I'm sucking up debt and time to be back in school for an occupational respec. I ran martial arts schools for a while when I was young. Helped a lot of people get fit and confident and mobile. Assisted in the the training of some people who were real fighters. Never made any money. I realized that what *I* wanted was a 9-5 that paid relatively well and that *really meant something to me.* The other 16 hours a day should be mine for training, for my family, and for my life. So I'm going to work in physical therapy. I found working with injured students the most rewarding. Now, I'll be getting people used to their new knees, getting people back to their training, or back to work. That means something.

This is so true. I work in the bagged salad industry and I have had multiple opportunities to go higher up in the ranks of management. Easier work, better money, but one big catch, my roster would change. I currently work a 4 day week, four 10+ hour days then 3 days off. Those 3 days off allow me to go hunting and camping, I get to fill my freezers with the ultimate free range protein, my true passion. I also have a passion for weight training, but because I spend my days off work in the bush, I just opt to weight train after work. This gives me the best of both worlds and although I have no passion at all for salad, I appreciate the role I'm in to allow me to pay my way while still being able to consistently hunt and train every single week 👌

Gym owner here, yes he is right. I've bought my gym place and it works fine but honestly nothing can prepare you for the amount of time you won't have for yourself and your loved ones. You will always need to put your gym first. The best thing I do is to get up in the 5 in the morning and do my workout. And after a long day of working with clients I do my run so I can clear the mind and organize myself for the next day. The thing is that I focus mostly on personal training and I have, thankfully I have great people who I train, but you need to be super organized if you want to succeed and have something of your personal life.

What is your reason? My fantasy is that I would find the cheapest locale I can find, make it hardcore and a cool atmosphere and then just hope people show up from rumors and maybe some facebook advertisements :'DD Because honestly all gyms are lame fitness clubs nowadays. It would be fun to show people that gyms are workshops, not playgrounds.

Where were you three years ago? I had my own gym, and everything you said is true. Always stressing about money, 80 hour weeks, no time to train, hardly saw my kids, members wanting this and that. I was in the Army for 14 years so I can understand your motivation all too well. I sold the gym at a loss because I hated the stress and not having any time for my family. I'm glad I did, but I'm grateful for the lessons I learned. I'm much happier now in my ordinary job, with an ordinary salary, but extraordinary training.

very true and great talk that hits in exactly the right spots, when it comes to careers one taught me that their is only real 3 fundamental choices we have, are you a builder, a healer, or a teacher do you like creating things, do you enjoy saving lives or do you enjoy teaching people, and of course many dynamics and mingling between the two but what stands out to you most, idk just thought id share hahaaaaa brutha man! keep it flowing!

hey Alan. I cannot thank you enough to heartily appreciate another perspective of opening a business. I have noticed that in exchanges with other people, in a flight or fight mindset to make a business happen. The only attraction at the start of a business is those who can assist in making your dream a reality. other than that, these other people have no use for you in a respective sense.

There are some cases where people didn't have to work nearly as hard to get their business up and running. Could have been something they started out of their basement or garage, or whatever. This is some great advice for people looking to start from nothing, like you did, and work their way up. Good shit man.

It's true, Captain Crunch just opened a gym in my neighborhood and he is never in there. Instead of lifting, he is expanding the business.

This was a very motivating watch, thanks :) Asks that funny question of whether making your passion your job / studying your passion at school will maximise enjoyment and time spent doing that passion or alternatively, take away some of the joy. Seems like you knew it was something you had to do!

Also man I think you opened the type of gym that's hard to recruit for. There are these stupid things called orange fitness popping up all over Canada but they're PAACKED because they cater to a larger demographic than untamed strength.
