Ойындар

Was also my experience but against Latif, lol Also, the tower doesn't help the mediocre gameplay. Stoppped playing the game around season 3. You felt how shitty it was once I booted up SF6 and could get so many matches in. And after Daisuke's vision of the Mahjong ass gameplay of Strive, the volatility of SF6 didn't seem that huge anymore...

@@Preachamain on the contraire mate, you know why? I'm gonna give 2 reasons. First is the feeling for people learning the game, who wants to rank properly, get better and the game, don't get stomp that faster (also, let's be honest, celestial challenge is a freaking Carnage without rewards outside the YOU ARE STRONG). But you may insist with this thing and I can't blame you... Except for second reason, I'm not from NA, I'm from SA, you know how many people are in tower a Friday night or Saturday afternoon in tower? 50? Congratulations...! No, total, I mean 50 in all the floors at same time, so, those tower 4 are forced to go to tower 10 or just jump into the park and The Universal Will may know what the actual hell is gonna be the opponent even if says lvl 15... The tower system is so fucking terrible. Not just the worst ranking system I’ve played in fg’s but in any video game I’ve played ever. I feel like a random guy who is illiterate and has no hands would do a better job of ranking and setting up who plays against who if you give them a pen and paper. It pisses me off knowing that they’re willing to double down on it in any future game because they’ve done so like 4 fucking times in this games lifecycle alone Edit: also the fact that it has never worked as in the majority of the time if I press x on a machine and it’ll either give me an error or keep me stuck glitched in some weird loading that’ll ultimately kick me into the start screen of the game is insane lol

The fact you can choose opponent and character to fight in RANKED mode always was hilarious for me. it just can't be a serious skill-based matchmaking when you always can cherrypick the best matchup possible. And because of many players actually doing it, finding mathces becomes even more difficult. Also, sometimes promotion/demotion from floor to floor feels completely random, and skill gap between this floors can be really huge. I dislike strive for many reasons, but ranked system is one of most obvious and worst of them.

    >re: point #3 being able to choose who you can play against in ranked based on seeing which character they selected is probably one of the worst design choices ever as it incentives purposely dodging one's unfavorable matchups for their favorable matchups in order to maximize their win rate and streamline their path to higher ranks. imo the whole point of ranked is that it's supposed to be like tests in school: you are supposed to study as much of the material that *could* be on the test as much as you can in order to it maximize your chances of getting a high score. ranked in fgs is similar too, want to maximize your win rate / make your path to the high ranks as easy as it can be? better study up on all the game's characters and how they interact with your main. but then again a majority of the fgc only labs combos and setups and barely studies matchups so i suppose it's quite fitting and poetic that they made a guilty gear for "babbies" such as strive have a ranked match system designed like this.

I don't even play strive but what gets me is the names of the floors. It looks like Ishiwatari picked random popular songs/bands/albums and called it a day. At least Stairway, Reing in Blood and maybe Future World sound like locations but you can easily change some names and still be metal af. For example, "Halls of Valhalla" instead of "The Hellion" for a Judas Priest reference or "Architecture of Aggression" instead of "Symphony of Destruction" for a Megadeth reference and so on.

I feel like I can understand why they made the lobbies this way, they probably looked at people playing Xrd and Blazblue in lobbies and not ranked which gave them the idea to make lobbies the ranked mode. But wow what execution, I remember seeing the Strive avatar reveals with the pixel art characters running around and thinking it was an April Fools joke. If it was a system like Battle Hub where its a spot with arcade cabinets where you can play unranked but have the option to queue into a ranked ladder, that would be infinitely better but of course hindsight is always 20/20 and maybe its unfair to compare Strive to a game that wasnt even revealed yet when it released but still.

Fucked up thing is because of what you said, there's actually no quantifiable way to communicate your skill to another player. The only two benefits we get out of this ranking system are: 1: More Rematches 2: Low Skill Discrepancy That second one is just for fun. Sometimes, it's fun to people of vastly different skill levels, but that's what casuals are for!

I think my favorite thing about the tower is when there's an odd number of people there and you just have to sit and wait until someone finished three full sets and doesn't immediately rematch. You just can't play the fucking game unless there's an even number up at the top of the screen. Amazing.

The floor system was a COOL idea if, IF like you've stated it was bronze vs bronze, silver vs silver, and etc. It put me on Floor 4 and I felt like I was up against someone that was a Celestial. I'm someone who is trying to take GGST serious if they just used the stats from the third party ELO site that way they can already use those statistics on user's and implement that data using the website API. Idk what they were thinking I know this game likes to be aesthetic but functionality over glamour and glory.

by the way, I have a friend that managed to go to celestial AND validate it. not because he's as good as leffen or anything, but because he spent a lot of time choosing his opponents against he had chances to win. and with a lot of luck and preparation, he succeeded. now that he is celestial, he stopped playing in celestial to evade being demoted.

I love Strive, its my favorite of the current generation of fighting games, but the tower is trash. Hot garbo. And most frustrating is the solution is simple: keep the aesthetics of the tower but when you approach a station, it just plugs you into regular matchmaking if nobody joins the station in like 30 seconds. That way you still have the aesthetic idea of being in a room where you could meet up with friends and rivals but you aren't limited to a pool of 32 other people in one room.

I literally picked up fighting games for the first time 4 months ago and I'm at floor 10. Something ain't right here. I did really like the tower when I first started. The fact that you can challenge above your floor but not below was great, it kept me from being stomped while I was still learning the basics. I find the problem really is that there's not enough space Everyone is squeezed in to floor 10 where celestial players can come down to fight, so the whole point of the tower - that you can't challenge people below your skill level - is completely negated.

I can't blame them for wanting to try something new. That's how we get progress. For all they knew, this would end up being the new ranked system that worked so well that everyone started copying it. Unfortunately for them, that's not how it worked out, it turned out to be a terrible idea and I can absolutely blame them for continuing in a practice that has proven to be severely lacking. Had the ranked system been changed to something sensible I probably would have played Strive consistently over the past couple of years. As it is, I find I'd rather spend my time with SF and Granblue.

Kind of true, that is why I almost always reject Celestial and stay on Floor10. To me some of the best moments is when I find some really good guy and rematch him for like 20 games and since I am losing most of them I go down 2 ranks and get thrown at Floor 8 but we can keep fighting lol. When I reach Floor 7 of losing THAT MUCH I stop and start playing normal games again (abusing people from 7 to 9 to climb again to Floor 10).

The tower was one of the main reasons why I quit Strive during season 1. I'm just a random who wants to play a couple matches after work and the whole matchmaking system feels like such a waste of time. On the 10th floor you either get stomped or you do the stomping. Rarely did I have a balanced match. Back then you couldn't even see the ping beforehand and you had bad match after bad match due to Africans and Middle-Easterners queueing in Europe (and to be fair, they have no other choice because there's no connection based matchmaking).

If they want to keep the 5/6 celestial challenge it should at least take place on floor 10. Makes no sense that you have to do it on the celestial floor. So stupid.

I'm good enough to have fun in floor 9-10 but not good enough to reach the celestial challenge more than once in a blue moon. I "Wait in Training Mode" and skip the Dual Station Dance. Let the game find a functioning match. Still having a blast. 😂

I personally love the tower system. In my opinion it makes for a stronger community feeling, because you can see everyone you've played with sitting at the cabinets Now yes I agree that there's a huge descreptency in terms of skill levels in every floor (especially in Celestial), but Its fun that you are given the option to play with either much better players and much worse you can pick your battles, which sounds terrible for a ranked mode since u can cheese it but in reality it isnt a ranked mode hte only leaderboards in strive are for matches won, not actual mmr and elo So noone actually cheeses their way into the top because there's no top to reach. I also think that dodging certain characters is fine, and being given that choice you can also pick who to go against which can help you get better at certain match ups. and Lastly , have you ever played vs someone in a fighting game and u wanted to run it back so much, but you couldnt unless the game rng put you two against eachother at random well in Strive you can keep remathing them all you want as long as they accept and you can go up to them in the lobby and ask them to play with you in a park to learn the mu. Oh and you can see and fight TOP level players which reminds me of offline events and makes me so glad that its an option because thats whats different about fighting games compared to other e-sports and its always fun to see that even top players are human just like everyone and you can match up against them, and that further strengthens the community aspect of the game imo. And thats why the floor system is my favourite fighting game online mode ever made (btw its better that they force everyone into it bcs it would suck if everyone was just using the auto search ranked and the lobbies where empty)
