The Worst Games of 2022

Ойындар

I don't actively search each year for bad games, but a few bad apples show up. In my Worst Games of 2022 these are video games that I was looking forward to but something along the way went very very wrong. I wanted to love these titles but they tended to be my most disappointing games of the year.
Any of these games let you down? Let me know your worst games of 2022 in the comments!

That's a blurred line to walk on though, because that applies both to devs and publishers overhyping their games and to players overhyping themselves and expecting who knows what from games. Unfortunately we live in an age where nuance doesn't exist and if something isn't a 14/10 then it's utter useless 0/10 trash in people's opinion.

So true ! Champions in League of Legends are so goddamn expensive, literally took me weeks, even months sometimes to get a champion I wanted because of the little amount of points they give you at the end of each game, even with a win and the bonus amount for the first victory of the day, you don't even get 10% of the price of these champions, completely ridiculous ! The first champions were at a very reasonable price but for atleast the last 5 years, pretty much all of the champions that comes out are too expensive and I hate also the fact that whenever there is a sale on the price of a champion, it's always a sale on the currency connected with real money rather than the in-game currency, a real scam.

Another very disappointing thing with Overwatch 2 is that all of the old skins now cost actual money. Skins that could be earned through either loot boxes or bought with in-game credits that were also earned and not bought. It’s really bad that there are seasonal skins that people tried to earn without paying anything, but now they are unable to earn them at all (the challenges that give coins don’t count because of how long it takes to get enough for even 1 skin)

God it really pains me to see the House of the Dead remake here. As a kid those games were a very real bonding experience for me and my Dad. He had sole custody of me but we had a lot of different interests, I liked wrestling, he liked rugby etc. so to find something we both loved was amazing, and on a plus note those games were also my introduction into horror movies too. When the first trailer for the remake came out I showed my dad and we was both hyped for it. Sadly he passed away before the game released, and I’ll be honest it was an emotional time playing the remake first time round because I didn’t have my player 2 with me. On the one hand I will always love the remake because it is a remake of a game I grew up bonding with my dad over, but on the other hand it hurts to see how disappointing it was. Even if one were to theoretically grind for 10+ years to reach maximum rank in Diablo Immortal, the frequent updates, new items and downgrading of existing gems (in order to make way for new gems) means that you actually can never catch up. They want you to spend money on their game forever.

I read an article about a person who spent real money to get to max level (probably to see what happens). It turns out that the multiplayer system locks you to players around your level. So this person found out that because he was so high leveled, he couldn't play with anyone else. So with one hand they encourage you to spend money, and with the other they punish you for spending too much money.

I feel bad for Scarlet and Violet, especially since I took Violet and channeled maximum Jirard for the first time in my life. I Completed, capital C, this game. But I can't imagine any other Nintendo first party title that could get away with having crashed on me over ten times in the course of a complete playthrough. Thankfully auto saves are generous and I'm old school so "save early save often" lives rent-free in my frontal lobes. But every single other thing about the game, technical difficulties aside, is Best in Series. If this game gets all its bugs patched out, it will absolutely be the best one in the franchise for now. The stories, plural, are all spectacular, the 'mons look the best they've ever looked, the new ones are mostly inventive and fun, and all the characters are worth meeting and interacting with. I went. to. school. On purpose!

Out of the entries shown, it is probably a safe bet to say the ones that could likely crawl their way out of the ditch they made for themselves would be Pokemon S/V, and Overwatch 2. With a recent announcement of a "Patch" for Scarlet/Violet and likely more patches to come throughout 2023 (with DLC), the game could probably shape up to what it was supposed to be (performance wise) by the time we get to the anniversary. As for Overwatch 2 (or Overwatch Version 2), Blizzard needs to wise up in both balancing the heroes better, getting the PvE up and running, and most importantly of all: Fix the damn monetization. Their biggest mistake was trying to make the game sound like a sequel when it was really just an upgrade to the next version (and how they screwed up so bad, people were demanding loot boxes to return. And when you have that going on, you know mistakes were made). As for the rest of the entries... Yeah, zero hope. Callisto Protocol could try and do updates, but that won't make the core mechanics any better, Mario Strikers Battle League hasn't done much to win people over since its launch (and will likely end support this year), Babylon's Fall already died, HOTD Remake can only hope to do better for its sequel (if it happens), and no one cares about Diablo Immortal if they aren't a whale. The hope will be Diablo 4 doesn't make the same damning mistakes Immortal did.

Good video man, hope next year is great for you. Okay, bad game hot take? I am a huge fan of Supermassive Games. Not just Until Dawn but I really enjoy the Dark Picture Anthology too. But I went from being bored with the Quarry, to flat out hating it after a while. I enjoy their games because they make me feel like my decisions matter to the story, and I know that what my decisions can change are actually kind of limited, but they still do a great job of making you think that any decision could change everything. But as I was playing the Quarry I thought "Huh, I did this... but this thing still happened anyways... So did my decision actually do anything?" So I played it a few times because that's what I do with all Supermassive Games to see how different the story can get, and after playing it multiple times making different decisions, I found that this game is the most linear of any of their titles. Almost none of the choices I made actually changed anything in the story, I could fail every quick time event and 95% of them didn't matter, the game will tell you "This character is mad at you," but that never comes up again. As I said, I love Supermassive games because of how many directions their games can go, but after playing this one I felt kind of ripped off.

Apart from the frequent crashes, I can forgive the graphical issues on Scarlet and Violet. Where I think they really phoned it in was with the world design. It's like they heard reviewers from Sword and Shield calling for an open world game so they mixed up the gyms and other quests in a way that makes the player criss cross across the island, but still keep the preferred order of things, but don't really indicate to the player what that order is. It really seems like a confusing approach for a game that's targeted to kids, particularly when you consider the circular design of the island really lends itself to more guided game progression.

You know, I think I prefer the idea of a disappointing games of the year list, because as you mentioned there are some easy targets everyone has, but disappointing games can be good games that were hyped beyond reason and were just okay, or were pretty good but missed the mark in one vital point. Edit: Adding to the Diablo point, I was a fan of Blizz for the longest time, but after the incident involving Blitzchung I started to back off on some of their games, figuring I'd read reviews carefully and if a game sounded genuinely good I'd buy a preowned copy (at least until leadership gets replaced with something better). Then Reforged happened. Then Immortal happened. Then OW2 happened. I stopped following too closely after Reforged because it was really obvious quality wasn't their priority anymore, but I'm still kinda hoping I might get to enjoy Diablo 4 some day, even if it's a preowned copy if the company's still crap.

When I hear people say the exploration aspect is fun I feel like htey never played any other open world game. What was fun about SV's open world? I played it for a few hours and I found it extremely bland compared to pretty much every other open world game I played before.

@@AndresLionheart yeah the overworld is basically just a big field. It’s better than SwSh’s wild area, since you can actually catch Pokemon above your badge level and there are at least a few caves to explore, but it’s not very interesting visually. Area Zero was the best part of the entire game both exploration and story wise and it’s not even open world, and frankly I wish the game was structured more like that instead of the watered-down open world that we got.

@@Batterskull It's not about the environment, it's about what you do in them (aka finding and catching mons). Though I'd say Legends Arceus did a better job of that even if it's not true open world. Open Zone concepts should still totally be a thing; Frontiers, Legends Arceus, and Mario Odyssey shows it's a perfectly good way of balancing open gameplay with limitations

A few missed points about Overwatch 2: 1. Earning Heroes isn't as dire as you're making it out. By the time you unlock Competitive, you've usually played enough games to naturally unlock all but the most recent Hero. 2. The PvE is currently MIA and unknown when it will be added. 3. The F2P is lax in regards to gameplay altering mechanics - Paying gets you the most recent hero faster, that's largely it. The catch is that your cosmetic options with F2P are SEVERELY limited - skins are given away only rarely, sprays are exclusive to achievements, and you can forget about Highlight Intros and Emotes. And the Premium currency used to obtain said skins is delivered at a slow rate - 60/week, which is ridiculous when Battle Passes cost 1000 and most hero skins cost between 1000-2000 (often with some useless junk like a weapon charm tossed in to feather the price up).

I don't live out West, but I gather that anyone, who went to BlizzCon 2018, and witnessed the fiasco that was their _Diablo Immortal_ preview, knew that the official rollout of this game was going to be the shitshow that it eventually became. The lower your expectations are for _Diablo IV,_ the better.

Kinda….. the original game servers were converted to Overwatch 2. Internally the switch was a switch to a 2.0 model. It’s the same game with PvP overhauls (and it plays very similar controls and character wise, but the team play feels new). We are still waiting for the PvE Campaign. If you were ride or die for OW1 it’s still very fun

lets not forget about the fact that game freak doesn't know what makes a good open world game and expects people to do the 3 paths in a specific order they want you to do and treating it more like a linear game despite it being open world. there is also no level scaling so if you end up doing like say, only the victory road path where you battle gym leaders and beat that path, you'll be way too overpowered when you do decide to battle team star and the titan pokemon. and thats because the game does not have any form of level scaling. the only time level scaling even happens is the raid battles that get harder the more gyms you beat along with beating the end game.

There is a reason why he says "Pokemon Company". Game freak is a separate company that develops the game(s). Should they hire more people? Yes and sure Game Freak was able to pull it off with 2D sprites, but they need more time with the switch to all 3d models and to go from Sw/Sh to the DLCs, to Arceus Legends and then S/V all with only 169 employees, that's insane. The Pokemon Company needs to take their foot off the gas pedal and give the developers time to breathe.

For Scarlet & Violet, I part of the camp that believes that glitches are hilarious! It's Fawful's Minion's 3rd funniest thing in video games. But even he would say that glitches in a Pokémon game are unacceptable for how it's been around for many years.

For me I just wish the switch and other consoles had a feature that allows users to send developers data from your system with logs when they encounter something that looks like a bug. I think this would be much better than how users are just posting screen caps on Twitter going "Fix it" instead of listing what they were doing so devs can reproduce and then solve the bugs

Don't get me wrong I think scarlet and violet should have had 3-4 months in the oven and hopefully the late February patch improves things. I just wish more people understood that bug fixing is extremely hard to accomplish in general no matter the project when you're given very little user information on what went wrong, visual bugs are especially hard to fix as you need to get a look at what's going on internally to see how to fix things externally

No Chocobo GP? That was no doubt the worst game I played in 2022. I had high hopes for it, but boy were they unfulfilled. Even beyond the whole Mobile Game slime they drenched it in. Bad controls, four (4!) unique maps with different tracks upon them in which you in one case literally couldn't take the 90° curve and a tutorial that stops you from playing the game like a normal person. I brought it back the next day. For comparison: The last time I did that was with Paper Mario Sticker Star.
