Of course she did, youngsters nowadays don't understand oldschool 3D games that 90's kids grew up with, nor throwbacks to them. Balan Wonderworld wasn't meant to be one of them fancy shmancy super high-quality HD modern games that everyone was misguidedly expecting it to be, it's actually a retro throwback to old 3D platformers from the era of the PS1, N64 and Sega Saturn, and it encapsulates everything magical and special about those types of games! (Although I'll admit it may also contain some of the outdated technical and design choices a lot of old 3D games had, which didn't age so well compared to modern games. That much I'm willing to admit)

The GTA Trilogy isn't just about the game itself, but how Rockstar handled it. First, they started issuing cease and desist to large projects in the mod community. They then removed the PC release from all other digital storefronts, so the only way to play the game was through their own. The icing on the cake was that their own launcher was so broken that PC players couldn't access the game for days. All in all, it's clear that they were trying to remove the option to buy the classic version of the games for cheap, then mod in fan made improvements. They wanted the $60 Trilogy to be the only way to experience these games going forward.

To be fair, from my perspective as a GameStop worker, it seems to be getting better when it comes to system restocks, especially around the holidays as towards the end of the year, my store managed to sell the PS5 twice in the last 2 months. And there were a great number of PS5s, too. Almost 100 total by my count. All of them sold out with the quickness. The Switch OLEDs have also seen a great increase in restock as well, starting off slow earlier that year as we had 4 to 8 every couple of weeks or so, to having a great number of them available along with the other systems. In fact, my store STILL has XBOX Series X systems from before Christmas. Whether or not that's a good or bad sign is yet to bet determined, but the fact remains, getting a next gen system seem to have been easier in 2021 than it was in 2020.

Sadly, HR (from my understanding) functions as the protector of the company's interests and not so much for their employees. In other words - they don't exist to serve as whistleblowers. They're similar to how insurance claims agents operate, where they will listen to any/all accounts per incident (and may often convey a level of sympathy during direct interactions), but ultimately, act towards a path that minimize loss for the insurance company.

Happy New Year Jirard & Team! Thanks for another great video and another great year! I agree that it’s unfortunate that the Blizzard Activision culture has taken centre stage, because I’m sure that like most gamers, we wish to believe that everyone in the industry, from developers to games, are all happy & safe. One thing I’ve heard is that it’s important to still support the actual developers by playing the games they produce, even though they may work in environments that aren’t as supportive or respectful as we may hope. Here’s to hoping that 2022 is a better year for all in our much-loved gaming industry!

For anyone curious about what he meant about MercurySteam: some former devs who worked on Dread for a short while found they weren’t listed in the game’s credits despite their work still being in the final product. A higher up in the company said it’s because MercurySteam has a thing in their contracts that says you have to work on a game for a set period of time to get your name in the credits. Obviously this is a poor look on MercurySteam’s part, but I will be selfish and say it shouldn’t be something that deters people from buying Metroid Dread to support the franchise and devs who did get credited, as the game itself is amazing and should be supported. Now that said, one way I could see MercurySteam changing this policy is if Nintendo eventually buys them and makes changes to the work culture like they did with Retro Studios back in the early 00s. Back then Retro’s old management made the devs crunch hard during the development of Metroid Prime 1, and when Nintendo found out they put a stop to it and enforced a strict “no crunch” policy. But of course remember that Nintendo owns Retro so they can enforce those changes, but MercurySteam is still a third party company, so Nintendo doesn’t have much authority to enforce positive workplace changes unless they eventually turn them into a first party studio. It could happen, the only question is how long it might take to happen, because Nintendo took 15 years to finally outright buy Next Level Games despite working with them since the GameCube years. Might be down to if someone like Sakamoto or Miyamoto convinces the people in charge of acquisitions.

Man, I just saw that G4TV meltdown, it's messed up. I'm sorry you got roped into this whole thing, judging by your facial expressions during that particular moment you weren't having a good time. It's too bad there wasn't anything you could do to not attract attention other than giving in. You could've have probably said nothing, but I don't think you were in the calm and comfortable situation to make the best decision, especially since any of those decisions would have a lot of consequences for your public's overall outlook on you. Not everyone can afford to call out something they clearly don't like or stand up for themselves, especially when their whole image is built on not delving deep into stuff like politics and simply sticking to video games. The people in this comment section have become really hateful after that particular mess and even started putting names on you that you never claimed to associate with. The best thing to do right now is to try to disassociate yourself from that channel and focus on your own. You could probably try to quietly sit it out until it's over, but that might end up being pretty damaging to your reputation in the long run judging by how a lot of people react to it all right now.

It even took him a bit to start clapping when everyone else started doing so. Anyone can easily say one thing to someone's face while having another drastically different view in their head, so it's not exactly certain if those are his true feelings. Also, people often don't know how to deal with drama such as this, so he may be way over his head. I think he is staying quiet because he knows it will backfire him online regardless of what he says, and that's true. People are now going after him on social media and even in this comment section and are posting a lot of hateful messages, including a lot of ones that aren't even true to begin with. It would be best to not trust complete strangers online (I suppose I am one too, but at least I don't jump straight to conclusions). It's a pretty delicate matter at the moment and I suppose only time will tell, but for as long as I've known him online, Jirard was always a good guy. The blizzard situation and the resulting choice we as fans face because of it is difficult. I can see both sides of it, what happened was wrong and I can see why people don’t wanna give that company money. On the other hand I can see people say it was a collaborative effort and that the game was a collaborative effort and they are supporting the hard work of those who weren’t guilty of anything… that I can see too. It’s the whole “death of the artist” thing. Can a persons work once into the world be disconnected from the person that created it? Can you enjoy Rosemary’s Baby even though it was directed by Roman Polanski? Can you enjoy Pineapple Express even though James Franco is in it? Can you enjoy The Usual Suspects even though Kevin Spacey was in it and Brian Singer directed it? Can you enjoy a Marilyn Manson song? Can you not like the Harry Potter books/movies cause of JK Rawling? Can you not like the Bill Cosby show because of what he did? For me I try to gauge it, the more people involved in the creation and release of “the work” the more likely I will support it because I respect the work those people put into it even though one of them was a piece of garbage. That’s just me though.
