even in the other sports, the top pick in the mlb, mark appel, was a 6'5 pitcher out of stanford who didn't make his pro debut until last year. the best of the four is easily nathan mackinnon, who is great now, but my guy came out of springhill, nova scotia... a town with less than 2000 people currently.

@@dylanpalacios2504 He loves oddities that have high athleticism. I think he also believes that bringing them into his culture might help them buy in, as many players feel alienated coming into the league due to the pressure even without considering issues with scheme, culture etc. The pressure under Carroll was more about making everything about competing while having fun doing it in the form of a family (to the point that Carroll believed players who left, unless leaving uncermoniously, always had the opportunity to return "home" regardless of where they started in the league). I think its very reminiscent of what Al Davis did when he owned the Raiders, but treating them as opportunities for competition vs curios. I also wonder if he uses their presence for younger players, showcasing draft status didn't mean anything. Which again, helps his culture. But thats my opinion.

If memory serves, he was signed to the practice squad his rookie season. But I saw greatness in him when he took the field at the Metrodome that first time in the 4th quarter of that game. Everyone had predicted my boy wouldn't make the 53 man roster OR the practice squad. He had that northern Minnesota work ethic.

Worst Cowboys Draft ever: After Travis Kelce told the Cowboys at the combine not to draft him, the Cowboys took Gavin Escobar at pick 47, Kelce went at 63. The cowboys passed on Keenan Allen in the third round due to off the field and injury concerns and took Terrance Williams at 74. Allen went at 76. The Cowboys coulda had 3 hall of fame talents in their first 3 picks, (Travis Frederick woulda been a hall of famer without the disease he had) and hard to imagine them not winning a super bowl. Taking Taco Charlton over TJ Watt in 2017 was also brutal

This is kind of why scouting and assessing talent is always regarded as kind of an art, since it's virtually impossible to fully predict if someone will flourish or completely wash out for various factors. 2013 is probably the best instance, seeing so many 1st round picks being average as best, or outright busts at worst. In fact, you have to look at the late first round to find the diamond in the rough with DeAndre Hopkins, who went 27th overall to the Texans. Travis Frederick and Cordarrelle Patterson also came off pretty late in the first round too. It's also kind of crazy that talents like Zach Ertz, Darius Slay, and Le'Veon Bell only came off the board in the 2nd round. In the third round, you may have heard of guys named Travis Kelce, Tyrann Mathieu, Terron Armstead and Keenan Allen. Rodgers' long time blindside tackle David Bakhtiari had to wait till the 4th round for his name to be called out. Fitting for the Ravens to find gems in the late rounds in Kyle Juszczyk (4th) and Ryan Jensen (6th). Considering the sheer difference in starter level caliber talent found between the 1st and the later rounds, yeah. Crazy is quite the understatement.

Vikings had multiple 1st round picks and they all did very well. Sharif floyd was so good before his botched surgery. Xavier Rhodes was an all pro corner for multiple seasons, and cordarelle Patterson is still a play making machine.

How you rate an o-lineman. Like a kicker if you don't notice him he's doing a great if you can forget he's on the field. The offense was top in the league because maholms could get the time to throw. I feel so disgusting building up a chip but he was a great at his position.

The Chiefs had a pretty solid 2013 draft. Eric Fisher was a solid LT for years, Knile Davis was decent, Mike Catapano was a solid role player, Eric Kush was an OK Center, and I hear that Travis Kelce guy is a pretty good player.

Saying Travis Kelce is just pretty good is a massive understatement. He’s one of the greatest tight ends of all time. He helped end the Chiefs 50 year drought, he holds the record for most consecutive 1000 yard seasons by a tight end, he almost became the first tight end to lead the league in receiving yards, holds the record for most receiving yards in a season by a tight end, has the record for most touchdowns by a tight end in the postseason, and won two Super Bowls in a span of four years.

The first round of 2013 was admittedly pretty thin, but there were still some good players selected in that draft if you could find them. Xavier Rhodes, DeAndre Hopkins, Cordarrelle Patterson, Travis Frederick, Zach Ertz, Darius Slay, Le’Veon Bell, Travis Kelce, Tyrann Mathieu, Keenan Allen among others. As a Packers fan, I have some fondness for this draft, as they selected David Bakhtiari and Micah Hyde in the later rounds.

Chance Warmack. When the Titans cut him and the Eagles signed him as a backup, he qualified for a sizable insurance payout for “loss of value”. I’ve always wondered if he really wanted to play at a high level or just coast into that payout.
