The flag of Greenland is showing a rising sun over the ice. That's why it's red and white. Neither the name of the land itself or the name of the citizens in the Greenlandic language contains the word 'green'.

the First flag, the french one has the little spiky things around the heart, wich are mostly found trought flag designes during medieval times included in east frankish empire, Medieval france, and from what i remenber the coat of arms has those spikes to even today.

On top of their culture being totally different, they have been colonised by Denmark and adopting the flag pattern of their colonisers is not something they wanted to do (colonisation in Greenland was far from fun for the natives)

@asherl5902 The whipala is still official, but as it only represents the people of the Andes, they also made a new flag official to represent the people from the lowlands of the country. It is a white flag with a patuju in the middle. Hence, the name "Bandera de la flor de patuju". Now, going back to my original comment, it would be daft for the flag that represents bolivia as a whole to have parts of the flag that only represent one part of the country without also including the other, a problem that is avoided if the original flag remains untouched as the colours in it already simolize something from diferent parts of the country, thus the country as a whole

As a national flag for Brazil i agree that Julio's design isn't good, but as a flag for the state of São Paulo it fits right in and is quite iconic, i'm biased since i'm paulista and have a large one hanging on my room wall, but seeing it all over the capital city i think it is quite neat. Also during the 1932 civil war they did some cool variations of it.

You missed one recent proposal for a change to the Canadian Maple Leaf. that came out as few years ago. It took the 1965 flag and put two blue stripes down the border between the red and white. It was called the 'Canadian Unity" flag. The intent was to include Quebec in the national flag. The Quebec flag is a blue and white fleur-de-lis design.

Actually, I didn't miss that flag. When you watch the video more carefully, you will see that I show this flag in the Canada section. I just didn't categorize that flag as the best or worst, which I think is quite normal since this list was prepared entirely based on my personal preference.

2:25 ok, Im gonna hope this is the last time I put a comment, I don’t wanna spam I promise: This Design was actually first used a while back. Like pre1900 back. The kingdom of The Netherlands, as you may know, has a Red-White-Blue tricolor flag. (During the revolution Orange-White-Blue, but nobody really needs to know that right now.) The flag that ended up flying over the Netherlands was a very influential flag, which the Napoleonic French used in their revolution (just tipped sideways), and the Russians, since the Czar liked how it looked, adopted this: as Russians Civil flag. It went on to inspire many Slavic flags, as most likely stated in that video on flag design this guy made, (props to you Btw) and the French inspired most other tricolors. And what do Ya know? I’ve commented twice. I will try to make this the last time.

The Canadian proposal with the 10 maple leaves representing 10 provinces has a striking similarity with the flag of the Swiss canton of Valais / Wallis with 13 stars representing 13 districts within the canton. I suspect it was an immigrant from the Valais making that proposal. I’m a Canadian, and I have to say; not a huge fan of our Flag. I think the red ensign looks awesome. I understand the reasoning behind scrapping it, but I think we could have designed a better flag, or just replaced the Union Jack on the canton with a maple leaf.

But the former flag with 3 extra images on the coat of arms to represent the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis, and a relocation of the triple maple leaves to replace the Union Jack would be awesome. Yes, it is complex, but Canada is a complex country made up of many peoples and I think our flag should represent that.

As Bolivia is one of the countries with the most indigenous people in South America, it is normal for the proposal to include them. But saying it's just "Miencraft patterns" is disrespectful. I think it quite obvious that the first flag was intended for France. France used to have a white flag with a golden fleur-de-lys.

You're absolutely right and it's not just you 😅

Greenland chose not to have a nordic cross in the flag because of it's distinct culture and colonial history with Denmark, which is not great. They chose a circle akin to the Sápmi people (native to northen Scandinavia with a history as a colonised people)
