The Worst 3D Printers...

Ғылым және технология

I have had a terrible time with the Elegoo Neptune 3D Printers. So many issues from terrible print resuming to beds that eat wheels. The Elegoo Neptune 3 printers have been the worst 3d printers I've ever owned. The Elegoo Neptune 4 have all those issues and more. With how bad these 3d printers have been, I would never spend money on an OrangeStorm Giga. That sounds like an easy way to waste a ton of 3d filament.

So my first printer was a Nep4. To say it was as easy as pull out and print would be a bit of a lie. It took me a minute to really go through the machine and tighten bolts, adjust the Z axis etc. I switched from Cura to Prusa and learned how to tune profiles and I genuinely have been having a good experience with it! Its been running non stop varied prints for my DnD campaigns and its doing great. While the downs definitely made me feel overwhelmed, being able to troubleshoot the printer was a journey in itself and made me more confident with tinkering on printers. I own a few different enders, a Prusa mk2.5s, an FLSun V400, plus help manage about another half dozen Prusa minis and some Folgertech printers at our makerspace. The Neptune just would not work consistently, regardless of how much troubleshooting and tuning I did. I will give kudos to Elegoo for taking it back after me sharing all I went through with their support team.

I purchased a Neptune 4 Max after Christmas of 2023 as my first 3D Printer. I had no idea what any of the terms meant, I had just read 2-3 review sights and they said that this was the right one to get. Out of the box, it was pretty great! I started off using Ultimaker Cura and running a custom setup, but I was never confident that my settings were right. I ended up disabling my Mac's security codes to be able to install Elegoo Cura, which was WAY behind on the update version, but the 1st party settings made for some incredibly good prints in comparrison to my custom ones and so I used it going forward until the most recent update of Ultimaker Cura which included pre-loaded settings for the machine I was using. So far, with a few setting adjustments, it has also worked well. I have Orca Slicer, but haven't gotten to play with it too much. I have experienced everything you discribed here, so it 100% is accurate, but as a newbie who mostly makes small things (yet still bought the max), I'm pretty satisfied with it. I will likely continue to use it going forward but also be open to swapping it out down the road for a more advanced machine when I feel comfortable. Great Video, definitely subscribing.

Yeah, I’m not exactly happy with my N4Max. When it works, it’s absolutely fantastic. That’s the caveat though: when it works. I swear I spend like 90% of my time calibrating the printer to be just perfect so I can get 1 good print out before I have to go and calibrate it again which takes forever due to the hot plate needing half an hour to saturate the heat properly. I’ve also had issues where for some reason, the extruder stops feeding in the filament properly which has caused print failures a good few hours or even a whole day later into a print. Also no matter what I do, I seem to always have some sort of bed adhesion issue: I know my extruder is at the correct height as the first layer comes out looking perfect, same goes for pressure advance and flow rate, but there’s usually just one tiny spot somewhere on the print that likes to peel up ever so slightly… I can tell that there’s a good printer in there, but the build quality and the half assed software has just ruined it.

I had similar issues, led me to send all 3 Neptune 4's back and buy Voron's. Sensor-less homing would grind, pause resume sucked, hotend was notorious for clogging and extruder skipping. Couldn't install a proper instance Klipper because of the low quality MKS knockoff board and the (proprietary?) touch screen. The Cura nozzle drag was also awful. The input shaping was also hilariously bad since its a HUGE bedslinger, anything over the height it calibrates at would ring like crazy. Proprietary Nozzles was a poor choice and death blob's was also a huge issue at release, thankfully I didn't experience one. I had medium results with customer support, they took all 3 machines back, but only because I opened a support ticket 3 days into using them. Great Video, 10/10 opinion on these cheap slingers.

People are making videos saying the Mars 4 Ultra printers saved their lives 😂 but not that elegoo didnt implement things like an internal heater that is necessary to resin print and their customers have been asking for forever. Plus other manufacturers have add it to theirs. I have an 3Max for FDM & Mars3 for resin all with steep learning curve but once theyre dialed in their great. I have 3 CR-10S, 2 CR-10 S5's, 1 CR-10S Pro v2 and some knock off CR-10 clones. All have been upgraded - BTT boards, Bondtech/Slice hot ends, Wham Bam surfaces. I've seen this trend of Klipper on bed slingers, which sounds good but Klipper doesn't seem to (at this writing) to account for the mass of the print as it gets bigger/taller. So the people with these fast Klipper bed slingers have all sorts of fails, bad ringing and just not so great print quality. Not to mention Elegoo and others use their own weird nozzles. I think my next machine to check out will be one of the RatRigs (500^3). They seem really solid. And Elegoo, Creality and the like come out with a new machine every 6 weeks. I won't bother listing AnyCubic because they are just the worst of the worst for me. Long story short, I bet you would've had way better luck with your original machines with some modest upgrades!

I once had a problem with the auto leveling not really working how it should, reset the printer and used a guide on google and it worked perfectly, in my experience the Elegoo Neptune 4 is the Ender 3 of the current time, Wonderful prints for a cheap price but the Tradeoff is, u will learn more about 3d printers as you may want because its not 100% reliable I Guess im so happy with mine because i only had an ender 3 before it so im not used to having a real good printer But the Bed Adhesion on mine is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Good, first layer 150mm/s wit hsmall details and it just sticks without any glue

Not sure if you made it truly through the video or were listening before typing about the wheels because the printer bed was never getting tight enough constantly had wiggle no matter how tight the wheels were even after disassembling the entire print bed. The printer would immediately have a loose bed after one print and the looseness then destroyed the wheels. Thermal runaway issue never was fixed at all and was also not a user error. Just so you know 3d printers on cheaper side are not mean more for people who know how to tinker with them... think of them like buying a project car.... All that said these issues you have had do and often happen for people with Creality printers... You got lucky... but also unlucky with your Elegoo printers... The next thing is use something like ORCA slicer ... its the best out of all slicers currently. And lastly DO NOT EVER EVER EVER use resume ... it is trash for most printers even when it works correctly Even the CR10 ... it is like you got super lucky with your CR-10 and that tainted how you expect cheap printers to work... Anyways you should always have a UPS attach to your printer preferable something like a 1500AV so it can run through a power outage. If you want a fantastic experience get expensive printer like a bambu labs or something like that. But Most printers can be made to do good with Orca slicer. It is free and opensource. The larger your print area also the more likely you are to have issue in general ... as that is just the nature of FDM.

    2 ай бұрын

@@SaturdayMorningProps I never said you didn't use orca slicer. I am giving you a list of things... However now that your bring it up that does remind me you said Orca slicers causes bed adhesion issues... That in fact can't happen unless you changed your printer or filament settings for first layer printing or added custom starting gcode for Z offset. I can tell you out of the box Orca works great with both my P1P, my Elegoo neptune 4 plus, and It also works great with Sovol printers too. Sovol is part of Creality FYI... Most of the time bed adhesion issues are poor leveling. The printer auto levels which is great, but you still need to dial in all 4 corners of the bed. Then after that You have to clean and I mean clean the crap out of the Spring steel sheet when you first get the printer. You don't use IPA, you need to use a Soap that breaks up oils such as a castile soap like dawn dish soap. Make sure you are wearing gloves for the process as you don't want to add finger oils... Lastly if you still have an adhesion issue apply glue stick... it doesn't hurt and it helps very much. FYI I Am not trying to slam you or stating you are wrong. I am just saying getting a budget printer comes with a lot of things you need to keep in mind. My Main issue with Elegoo is while their printers are actually really good designs. Their QC on FDM printers is trash. There is also the fact that good luck finding documentation about doing stuff with the Elegoo fdm printers. Mean while Creality has a ton of people modding their printers so lots of people make videos about it. I have been in the 3d printing space for about 8 years now. I can say for sure almost all modern budget printers are about 60% away from easy of consumer use. The thing is most budget 3d printers are missing one or more of these things 1. Quality control 2. Support 3. Software 4. Quality parts/ Good enough parts 5. Ease of use 6. Print it and forget it (IE klipper with a camera and a spigetti detection, and wireless printing) The Thing that can solve a lot of that is the Elegoo neptune 4 or 4 plus ... out of the box this printer has the price and quality mostly down, but you still need a usb camera. Then they need to add a quick setup instruction that includes cleaning the Spring steal sheet. Then they should bundle orca slicer explaining it is open source and included free (so they don't get in trouble for including it). After all that They need to step up their support game, Maybe even try to push smaller youtubers to make videos not about their printer but about modding and customizing their printer. Creality is about their too, but they have a lot more issues to resolve first. Like simplifying the amount of printers they currently sell They have a catalog of over 30 printers most of which they still make and sell, but half they don't support anymore. The community around the printer really stepped up. However if we want printers for people who's hobby isn't tinkering with electronics and the like, we need to have a printer that is unbox and go. This is where bambu labs is great and their A1 (non-mini) is baiscally 400 USD printer that is as good as p1p but at a much more reasonable price. A lot of these Cheaper companies like Elegoo, Sovol/Creality, Anycubic, etc; need to really get their game up because comapnies like Bambu Labs are comping for the cheap printer market and building things with quality like the A1 Mini ... it is already in striking distance of the elegoo neptune 4 and is better and faster and its onlly 180 mm x 180mm instead of 220 mm x 200 mm... and for most people it is good enough.

he probably never ran, or re-ran the input shaping that is built into the printer. As for large prints, there is a setting you have to check mark while the print is starting (under settings > adjust) called SPEED ADAPTIVE MODE. This is for tall and otherwise large prints that will get heavier over the course of a print. This mode SLOWS the print down gradually as the layer height increases, as even input shaping will only compensate for so much.
