    this video is much better than most videos I've seen about toki pona lmao. I think it's a little misleading to say "thousands of speakers claim improve mental health" because so far, we don't have much more than a couple thousand speakers at all, most of which haven't really reported that. But there's some truth there, and I can say that for me at least it's totally true. The "30 hours" claim is false and propagated by an Atlantic article that a lot of other articles copied it, and I'd say it's a false claim. Also, it's just as easy to think about negative stuff in toki pona. Your pronunciation is pretty good as well, and your translations are great.

    I'd just revise it to say all the grammar and vocabulary can be crammed within two days, but any degree of actual fluency takes weeks to months

    I get it. It's like there are missing concepts but for the best, so speakers have to elaborate in order to understand themselves and the situation better. The idea is very smart!

    @@mikhailshishin5701 depends on how you look at things. There's a constructed language called U that has a single word but it only ever means one thing. There are a whole lot of minilangs that can range from 4 to a couple of hundreds. This video is about the only one of those to have an ISO 639-3 language code: toki pona

    @@ImDayv27 500. toki pona's number systems is additional, so if you have ale=100, that makes what you said 100+100+100+100+100. (There's an extension to that counting system that can shorten down very very big numbers above a couple of hundreds, but it's backwards compatible, so in that extension, you also said 500)

    Listen we as people are always changing so don’t be to great to learn a completely different language even if it’s a “conlang” nothing stays the same forever, English won’t be English as we know it 500 to 1000 years from now.

    It is also a great stepping stone for learning other languages. Much like the recorder is a great instrument to start off with for learning other instruments, Toki Pona allows you to learn the very basics of language learning to learn other languages that are more complex.

    lukin la sina pona kin! nice to see an actually informative video about toki pona, Half as Interesting made a really messy one full of misinfo. i would still say that 30 hours is too short to truly learn the language but at least what you said was pronounced properly and had correct grammar.

    Because they are cognates! Sonja Lang derived toki pona's words "oko" and "luka" from Serbo-Croatian words which are related to the ones in Polish! tan ona li nimi pi mama sama! jan Sonja li lanpan e nimi "oko", e nimi "luka" tan nimi pi toki Sepo-Kuwatija. toki Sepo-Kuwatija en toki Poli li jo e mama sama a!

    no, newspeak in 1984 was made to be unusable to suppress the thoughts of the masses. Unlike in newspeak, you can talk about anything in toki pona (and it isn't enforced by the government.)

    just so you know the 30 hours thing is not true. it's pretty simple to learn all the words and grammar (still more than 30 hours though) but fluency takes a lot longer. still less time than a natural language though

    me too. i think they’re fine in some instances, but they’re cringy because they’re not real. another issue i have with them is that they potentially take away learners from smaller/endangered languages. lastly, i think that they’re pretty useless.

    @@sucre4523 if there are thousands of speakers, how is it not real? It’s more real than natural languages that have died and that nobody speaks. If they can communicate, i don’t see what issue you could have with it other than some silly bias. Also, most people who get into conlangs are interested in linguistics in general, so no need to gatekeep.

    @@sucre4523 Do you really think there are people out there who would have learned an obscure endangered language, if it weren't for conlangs? I'm gonna learn this toki pona now, but its not taking me away from learning a natural small endangered language, since I wasn't intent on learning one to begin with. If anything I'm more inclined to learn about endangered languages now.
