It was on winter tires which makes this test completely useless as it should've won by even more, new units produced now have better brakes but most importantly its the safest car here by far

Just imagine that the slowest time here was 12.2 which a few years ago would've been unbelievable for a luxury SUV.

@@KorpiSoturi1 That’s a moot point. Other manufacturers use prepped surfaces to achieve their highest times too. At the end of the day it’s still by far the fastest SUV ever made.

That Tesla is just insane. My favorite was the Porsche though. Would of loved to see the Trackhawk in this SUV group. Fun video to watch.

I'm pretty sure they did a similar race with a trackhawk involved. It launches well as you'd expect but it gets dropped pretty quickly...too heavy and not very good aero

I clearly remember Matt calling out relevant tire differences in other tests, but in this one not a word. On the positive, they should do a test with the same Model X plaid but with summer sports tires that are equivalent to the other cars, from the same high speed on the same side of the track for direct comparison of tire breaking performance winter vs summer.

In the roll on race from 50mph in full comfort mode, matt in the x5m had the gearbox in the level 3 sporty setting.

imagine Plaid was on summer tires😂 he’d be bus lengths ahead

Matt telling someone who just splashed £200,000 on a Urus, that it's wrong choice..is the most Matt thing ever.

Huge props to the people who got all these cars in to do this drag race. Special thanks to you as well, Yanni, Mark McCann, and EV Richard. Also, you guys should dyno and weight test these high-performance S.U.V'S just to see how much power they truly have. I bet you that Porsche has a bit more horses than that Urus Performante.

I was very confused with the braking performance of the Tesla plaid, then I saw the winter tires, maybe you should mention that. (As you know the braking performance is much worse with winter tires vs summer tires, that is also why the plaid did a slower quarter mile time).

Considering the BMW is over 200kg heavier than the Porsche and the Lambo and down on power too, it did really well!

The plaid is on winter tires, which are way softer. Imagine how it would destroy the others at launching with same tires as the rest 🤭

It would do a bit better, but the Tesla brakes definitely aren't up to par with the acceleration. I own an X and am a huge fan, but brakes are a major weak point.

Everyone knew the Tesla would explode from the start. I'm impressed that it launched fast but continued to pull away all the way to the finish line. That is/was the one thing that Tesla needed to improve and they clearly improved. The BMW launched so good it stayed with the Tesla for the first 100ft roughly.

The plaid powertrain is a complete innovation. The carbon sleeved rotors put of 1,020 hp and have a very good power curve all the way to 200 mph. There are very few things that can beat it.

It's clearly an oversight, but what if the temperature was low? Richard says on his channel the day started with -1 degrees C and he went to this drag race in the morning. By 4.39 pm the car showed 9 degrees, so it is possible that the temperature in the morning was 4 degrees, maybe even lower. Winter tires are usually recommended below 7 degrees so maybe Tesla was not disadvantaged.

Just missing the Aston 707 and this would have been perfect

The Plaid hadnt got the ceramic brakes upgrade like some of the others.. it makes all the difference

Now that the Purosangue is out, you must put it against a model X plaid, X5M/X6M, urus perfomante, cayenne turbo GT, GLe63S, DBX 707, Bentayga Speed, Audi RSQ8, Jeep Trackhawk & Range Rover SVR or F Pace SVR

The tires were already warm - I assume from the drag races before - I'm not sure is a valid assumption. If it was 0 degrees as somebody says that it was clarified it was (I didn't see such clarification), then maybe the tires were not that warm.

Tesla did good braking on winter tires. Lets fit winter tires to the other cars.

nobody wanted to invite the best suv of all time the trackhawk

So many issues with settings and performance vs a foot and a pedal for the Tesla. It’s crazy how access to such power at such a lower price. I wish they raced a non-plaid Tesla for comparison.

The Model X was on winter tires while everyone else was on summer tires, no wonder it was wobbly and took forever to stop, they are not designed for dry warm concrete. Would be interesting to see the difference in braking distance between these old winter and normal summer tires. Also would be nice to hear what about the cars tested aren’t 100% OEM whether it be tires, brakes, body kits etc. just to keep everything fair

I was wondering why the Tesla was SOOOOO slow to 60 mph (over 3 seconds rather than 2.5 seconds) until I read they tested it with WINTER tires???????? WTF?

It was just a bit of a let down because instead of winning the 1/4 by 2 seconds, like it would on summer tires(which my MXP has), it only won by 1.4 seconds. All seasons reduce the 0-60 time over summer tires from 2.5 seconds to 2.8 seconds. Also note that even though Tesla claims 2.5 seconds with 1 foot rollout, with summer tires, folks are getting 2.5 seconds with no rollout and 2.3 seconds with the 1 foot rollout subtracted. The original specs must have been with all seasons but here in the US, they shipped with summer tires for the first 6 months.

It would loose either way. Tesla is heavy and has CRAP brakes. And if you think it will compete with lighter cars from prestigious brands like Porsche and Lamborghini with carbon ceramic brakes you are delusional.

I went out of radio contact 😅 (accel and brake!) There was one take where I hadn’t engaged launch control or drag strip mode. I just drove away like pulling away from traffic lights. And still flew past 😂

Yeah they designed the X to use the regen braking instead of performance brakes.
