Wow. Sounds better than expected.

Every time I see this I’m astounded that they don’t have a big neon sign displaying proudly that this is the oldest piano in the world. It’s so innocuous sitting there and many people just walk past it without knowing how significant it is. Thanks!

@@SOULPIANIST This instrument was called by Cristofori "harpsichord with piano and forte"( "clavicembalo col piano e il forte" in italian), later people called it piano forte (or forte piano), and today we simply call it piano. Over the centuries the instrument has been improved but the principle is always the same: the strings are hammered and not plucked, this allowed playing with different sound dynamics (piano and forte), this possibility did not exist with the ancient harpsichords. So yes, this instrument by Cristofori is the world's oldest piano.
