Jim Green Chukka Boot Review - What is the best chukka boot? This is the question we are going to try to answer in this chukka boot series. The Jim Green Vellie is the first boot we are going to cut in half to see what's inside for this series. Jim green has been a quickly growing brand in the boot world and particularly the work boot community but can they make a good chukka boot and maintain the quality boot at an affordable price reputation?

im getting a bit excited by the jim greens and i need to get a pair and support them. we always ask companies for no frills good durable products when it comes to clothes, automobiles, home appliances but they never sell very well in the usa when we do get those options, so i really want these options to stick around so that people can get that cheep durable option. i may look at a pair of these chukka boots as well. i honestly need A pair of sneakers to give my work boots a break when im off the clock so that they can dry and get a break but i have only ever worn boots my whole life and dont like sneakers, so these may make a good substitute

The Jim Greens are way more comfortable than the Clarks Desert Boots but the Clarks look better. My favorite chukka right now is the Redwing Work Chukka. Look great and feel good once they're broken in

I was told a story the chukka was designed for the French Foreign Legion's desert actions. How durable are those Red Wings? I worked farm and construction for a solid 6 years in one of their boots. I settled into pressure washing and wore Vietnam Marine Corps jungle boots with no socks because I was wet. I worked those Redwings for 10 more years before I dropped a 1" 4'×8' steel sheet on my toes. The steel crimped and the sheet slid off. Whew. Are they tough? Like a good "summer at the cabin in the woods with an axe" tough?
Really like the amount of things we get to learn about shoe making and materials in this channel. Would love to see you cutting some OG Sperry boat shoes in half. At least from wearing them, they feel like well made shoes 👌🏼

OG sperry’s vs the golden cups. Are the high end model worth it?
I purchased a second pair because I liked the first pair so much. The wide toe box makes it comfortable, and the rubber sole does an excellent job transitioning from paved surfaces where you want some cushioning, to unpaved ground where you want support so your don't roll your ankles. Even the texture of the soles give good traction, and don't seem to wear down.

Thinking of getting boots but I wonder if they could hold up for hiking
I bought a pair of these from your link after watching this video. Got them in three days. Really happy with initial quality. I like a wide toe box. My feet like it anyway. They do look a bit clownish, and could probably be narrowed a bit while still keeping them wider than standard. But it’s no problem. I like the look actually. I’m kinda cartoonish myself. They are very comfortable for me. I was surprised because your review made me slightly worried. But given the ruggedness, I think they’re really quite initially comfortable. I can’t wait to spend more time in them but for the price I think it’s gonna be an excellent “work” chukka. Thanks for your info and all the hard work on behalf of truth and quality. 😊👍👍
im learning so much from these videos. I now realize that my last pair of cheap boots had the counter cover wear out in about 3 months. so much so the counter liner mesh was falling apart in my boot. it was like walking with little rocks in my boot that I had to shake out every day. I got a pair of razorbacks coming but I just keep watching more and more videos.
I absolutely love mine and have been wearing them everyday for every task.

@prep7 Yeah, that's where I heard about Jim Green.
I have the tan version of these and I love them. I’m a teacher and I wear them to work. Plenty comfortable and they get lots of compliments.
Got a pair of these late March and have put over 200 miles on them. Soles are wearing very well. The toe box is nice and spacious, super comfortable on the toes. Break in wasn't too bad, but they're definitely stiff at first. The insoles are perfectly serviceable, but I plan on changing them to something more comfortable eventually. Fantastic shoe/boot for the money. Definitely more of a work shoe than a dress shoe.
Thanks for sharing all the Jim Green boot review videos. I really have been loving my African Ranger boot in Buffalo leather. Just ordered a pair of the Vellies. Can't wait to wear them!
I ordered a pair of tobacco Vellies after watching your video on the Razorbacks. Jim Green's customer service is excellent. They answered all my questions about chosing size due to my wide feet and I got a well fitting and comfortable shoe on the first try. I've worn the shoes several times a week since receiving them and they have held up extremely well and have only gotten more comfortable. At first I was concerned about preserving the look of the suede but I'm more relaxed about it now, letting it develope some wear and character. These boots are well worth the price. Can't beat the value!
Your reviews have inspired me to purchase the Jim Green Stockman. The Jim Green similar to Blundstones, and I am so happy with my purchase. They are a great all around boot for work and play.
These chukkas look like a great buy! I just can't get past the two fluorescent yellow tags AND that huge brand on the back of BOTH boots. That said, they look perfect for working in the yard. I have purchased 3 pairs of chukkas in the past 2 months (2 Red Wings Foreman Chukkas - used and now Role Club updated, and 1 Red Wings Work Chukkas.) I really like the chukka style as they offer my old tired feet better support than the Merrell Mules I have been wearing the past 10 years.

I like mine. They have a nice wide toe to allow you to spread out and not feel cramped. I think I will get a different insole soon because I feel it’s a little slippery inside and not much arch support. But overall they are amazing for the price

@@BOOGiNS That shoe is nothing like the boots I was after (AR8 from JG were) Also a quick google search reveals the K6 you are promoting has a very thin fake looking "leather" lining on the ankle that is very prone to simply tearing and breaking off from use. Amazon review with pictures shows its like a 0.1mm thick flimsly layer... The back of the boot is also lined with some sort of cloth / fabric and not a leather lining like on JG... And I'm not from the US so I dont really care to order something from the US with all the extra cost that comes from it. Thanks for the recommendation but I wouldnt consider those boots "better".
I would love to see a review/cut in half of Maison Margiela Replica GATs and maybe the Oliver Cabell GATs!
Just ordered the new vellie in black crazy horse leather with a black sole. Looks like it's going to be a good pair. For the record also have two pair of razorbacks and can't say enough good things about this shoe company.
Hey man, thanks for this showcase and breakdown. I'm ordering my Jim Greens now. Greetings from Johannesburg, South Africa
awesome, this is going to be a great series!
Got a pair of Razorbacks in May/2021. I have a wide foot so I think that these chukka boots all right up my alley.
Very simple yet well executed construction.
If I have boots that have a flimsy counter cover I take them to my favourite shoe repair shop and have a durable counter cover put in the heel. It just prolongs my boots. My motorcycle boots were done when new.
Hey there just 2 months ago i brought up Jim Green's Razor Back steel toe cap and Bantam - Steel Toe Cap , love them !
These boots are extremely good, I have worn many boots from very expensive to normal clarks. These are pretty much better then anything I have had. I now have three of these in different colors. Very affordable and very good. Can not recommend enough and they super comfortable from the start no break in period needed. Having clarks they are way more comfortable for sure not sure how they even compare really.

Great review! I can’t decide if I should get the razorbacks or the monster, I’d love to see a video on the monster to see how they compare to the razorbacks.
Good news! As of Aug 23 Jim Greene boots are once again available in the US and shipping. Also, Jim Greene said they'd be raising prices on the Vellies but right now they're the same price as they were earlier this year. I don't know if the discount code still works but even if it doesn't, the price for these chukkas is still more than reasonable.
Just ordered a pair of the African Rangers. Would love to see you break them down. Cant wait to get mine.
I don’t have any but I wore my Razorbacks for the first time today to work and they were so awesome.
Thank you for the info I just bought two pair Amazon had a great sale $65👍
I have narrow feet and I don't see these boots fitting me. Too much room for my toes. I just want a normal size boot. All people don't have wide feet. I wish boot and shoe company would make a normal size. I love to watch you video and content. It's always good to know what's inside of shoes/boots and how their made. Great video and content
Well wish I had seen this video with the discount code yesterday lol. I watched one of your other videos the other day and it convinced me to order the razorbacks which i did this morning. So now its to late to use the discount code. Oh well still a good price anyway. Very impressed I ordered this morning and by this afternoon I got notification they already shipped. Can't wait to get them.
Chukka boots are a must have imo. Clarks are my first love but been looking at these Jim greens
Got a pair for xmas. It took awhile to break them in but once they did I love them.
Thanks! Very excited.
I'm late to this party but based on your review, bought some Vellies. I liked the price and the look, even the goofy wide toe box because of my goofy wide feet. It will be more of a casual boot for me but really well built and comfortable even though they are stiffer than the popular posers. Anyway... thanks loads for your great work and honest reviews.
You should review their african ranger boots
As a video idea for your Chukka boot series if you wish you should look into reviewing Riekers F1310 Boots. One of the more unknown brands I think you'd be interested in. I love your videos! Keep up the good work Weston!
Thanks for another great one
I gotta give a shout put to jim greens customer support. Not to sound like a Shill, but after watching Rose Anvils review of the Razorback. It flared my interest in getting some nice all rounder casual/hiking boots. Fell in love with the Vellie design (turbo version). And planning to order a pair from them as soon as my salary hits. Since they dont have a shop in EU, and their US store page was out of stock, I contacted them about how to get them about how to get em shipped to Norway They were increadible quick on their email response (the very next day if not faster). Guided me through sizing to make sure I would order a pair that would fit me. Not only that, they tipped me about this video and a 10% discount following it! Here I was more than willing to pay fill price for a pair and they tipped me about a discount if I waited! This has really impressed me, if my salary bonus allows me, I might buy a pair of their waterproof workboots to test them out with my line of job as and see if I can get my company interested in covering the cost of them if my fellow colleagues decide to want a pair also!
Bought a pair of these along with a pair of Currex workpro for the insoles, winning combination of extreme comfort. Will it beat the comfort of a leather insole boots that are broken in? No, but for $130 along with the Currex insoles included, it can't be beat. Love the Jim Green Vellie.
I bought a pair of JG Vellies a while back. For me, dropping a full size from my usual US shoes/boots got the right length, and I really appreciate the width. I'll replace the laces and insole eventually.
Thanks for the review-a suggestion for future reviews: give quick tips on cleaning/care/conditioning. How do you condition rough out chromexel?
took forever to break these in (I got them maybe 9 months ago), but I really love them. that being said, I've found the counter cover has a tendency to stain the heels of (especially white) socks brown.
Next you should review the Corcoran Marauders, I've heard them lasting over a decade and still in great condition, I got pair on the way, and I'm curious of your option and them in half. Stay safe man, keep up the great work
Thank you, Weston!
I've been wearing the Razorback for a couple weeks now and I'm really liking them. I just ordered this boot too. Should be noted the prices are a decent amount higher now. Still a great value IMO.
These boots reminded me of what my late father used to wear back in the 80s, especially the Suede Vellie Chocolate. I am gonna buy me a pair and show them to my mom, let's see if she would remember what my dad used to wear :-).
I own 4 pairs. they're my favorite shoe. I get tons of compliments and at 120 a pair they're a steal.
I purchased the razor back, tough super tough. With a prosthetic hip, I enjoy wedge sole boots. But sometimes a lug sole is better.
I bought a pair after watching this video and i love them.
Rose Anvil, could you do a leather video on jackets? Maybe its not youre expertise but I dont see anyone that could do a better job than you regarding leather.
I’ve got something on the “nicer” end of chukka boots - a pair of suede Loake 1880 Kemptons purchased about 10 years ago. Wear them about once a week for three seasons out of the year, and they’re still on their first sole.
These are great boots, got them in tan leather off the back of your Razorback review. The only thing I find is the soles are slippery AF on wet surfaces - lino, tiles, even brick can be a bit patchy. I don't know if things are greasier in Australia, but just my view on them. Break in was a few days, just had one heel cup rub up my heel a bit - other than that, all good

More Jim Green's, nice. Also, I kind of like the wide look, it almost reminds me of a Munson last.
I like my razorbacks but I think they are way too hard on your legs and knees. They definitely need more cushioning. Just switched the insoles so I hope that helps. I’d like to get a pair of vellies but worried they maybe too firm as well.
looks like a decent boot at a good price, Jim Green is making a bunch of great boots at a good price wish other companies would follow suit !!
I bought a pair of these in the tan leather for $63 after discounts on Amazon back in June of 2021. I couldn't resist for the price. I've worn Clark's Buschacre 2 for a number of years before that. They constantly wore out on me in less then a year. These look as new as the day I bought them and are just amazing. They are also MUCH more comfortable then the Clark's. The Clark's have no ankle support, The toe box is so narrow that I would stretch and eventually bust the sides of the shoes, the lack of a shank also makes them uncomfortable while walking as you have no support in your arch. They also just don't have much cushion in the insole. I would buy the Jim Green's 100 times over for buying another Clark. The only negative thing I have to say about them is I do wish the toe box profile was a bit more sleek and not so rounded. I don't need it that wide but it's definitely still better than it being too narrow.
The crazy horse leather vellies have a softer rubber compound compared to the regular vellies for the outsole. I have the charcoal black vellies and they are comfy for all day wear whereas my reg vellies need a softer insole.
Hi Weston, I really like your videos and wondered if you could cut in half some Gant Gretty chelsea boots, some Barbour Chiltern and Barbour Topsail boots please? I just got a pair of these in the mail in my usual boot size 10.5, and slipped them on to see how they fit. Initial impression: these are comfy. I was nervous about getting a pair of Jim Greens because I have heard they're "hard under foot." Maybe, I'll experience that as I break them in, but I got them on right now, and they feel like a sturdy pair of slippers compared to my daily wear boots. Update: I took a little jaunt around the block. These feel Nice. I'm Very excited to wear these to work the next few days. These should make for a nice lighter weight boot for the summer.
That is the only shoes I wore in South Africa as a child and still do. The Rhodesian War up to 1980 the RLI (Rhodesian Light Infantry) wore Vellies. I am very hard on boots and shoes and I used to go through 2 pairs a year and then I would have it resole with a very aggressive sole, like an upgrade for me. If something last in Africa then it will last anywhere.
Man chukkas these remind me of the old Australians db's we grew up in

How do you condition this type of leather? Is it the same as the regular leather boots?
Got a pair and really like them. Surprisingly heavy duty. Only complaint is the heel counters just don’t feel right and rub my heel painfully. Definitely not too tight and seem to give just the right 1/4” spacing. Any ideas what the problem might be and how to “fix it” for my feet?
Have you done video yet on a Jim Green boot that came with their new insole ? I just got a pair of these khaki Vellies yesterday, and noticed that it has a different insole then this. It's a calfskin topped fiber material like this, but is not sewn around and has a black soft plastic arch support thing at the back which is interesting. They don't feel har or anything, but I've only been walking my dog, doing a few small projects in my workshop, and walking in some loose creekbed gravel. I just barely discovered the insole construction about an hour ago, and based on how they feel under my foot I never would have imagined this. Just leather a felted material, and a plastic or very hard rubber arch support. Honestly they seem like a better design than those insoles.
I am ignorant, so my way of thinking concerning the midsole, won’t the polyester be better for wet/humid conditions? Won’t it breath better then leather? Can’t the small amount of comfort difference compared to leather be easily overcome by a better insole? Genuinely curious. Thanks for review. 🫵👍
Redback 303s or Jim Green Stockmans? 🤔 Which are better and more comfortable?
