This ending scene is epic because it sets the tone for Season 2 and made sure everyone would be coming back to view. "It's all in the game yo."

I have been reading and hearing about how The Wire was probably the best TV show of modern times. Yesterday I just finished season 1 and now I understand. I probably would argue about using absolute terms like "greatest", "best" or the like, but man... this first season does not rely on peak scenes or spectacular set pieces, each episode is like a small high quality brick within the story, it never tries to fool the audience and all character arcs give you reasons to care about, and then I was reaching the end of the final episode when I immediately thought "What about Omar?" and then... speechless. And I still have not watched the other seasons. I know, too many words while the phrase "The greatest TV show of all times" is there, handy.

I love how at the end it shows the dealing starting off in Baltimore but then shows it in a few other cities (Chicago, New York). Story tellers basically saying "We covered just Baltimore, this shit is going on EVERYWHERE."

Damn, all that effort that the detectives have done ended by Avon taking 5 years in jail only, adding to that stringer still running business.
