A father doesn't have to be perfect he just has to be present. I'd even say Wee Bey is a good father because he put his son's life ahead of his own.

2:12 Everytime I hear people say black men not around and we not doing anything for our community I think about this scene and how life was for me growing up without a father but had football coaches and mentors to keep me on the straight and narrow. I appreciate shows like this. Close to real as a television show can get.

thing about those kids is, they're looking for an excuse to distrust anyone, the slightest attitude or threat and they get very defensive, it's how kids are when they grow up in the streets broke and racially profiled, you can tell cutty is genuinely worried for the kids but doesn't know how to approach them/control his emotions

  • @DickEnchilada

That's the thing about being a teacher: you have to be a leader. Cutty came up on the same broken streets, knowing the same shit that these kids know. He's taken the first step to being a genuine leader by ceasing to be a follower of Avon's, but beyond that, he'll be learning with them, and his story in the ensuing seasons is all about having to learn leadershipnand find a new life outside the game.

Don't remember where I read this but it is simply TRUE. When TV goes the way of the gramophone or the telegraph, when television is a machine or medium that is no longer used and they write the history of Television, THE WIRE will be said to be the GREATEST EXPRESSION of that medium. It is a PURE PICTURE of our Human Condition and the HORRORS that we can do to each other.

2:02 Funniest part ever... Cutty used to be a stone-cold killer and a soldier but after coming back he's trying to get out of the game and these young fools disrespecting him like he's a little bitch by calling him: "bitch-ass mofo... faggot, punk-ass nigga, chump-ass..." it's just hilarious in its own fucked up way. His reaction is what kills me, the old Cutty would probably kick their asses to the curb, but the new Cutty (or Dennis) is trying really hard to change and achieve something and help his community.

What I love is that the same kid that gave him shit is a committed gym member come S04. Showed the kids really got that hard demeanor as a form of protection because of the hellscape they live in and needed compassion. People love to scoff at that shit but these are children who at many times have nothing and no one but the game. We need a system like Cuttys gym.

Cutty is so smart ... at 0:28 when he's saying "C'mon man, I ain't gonna hurt you" but says it looking around so everyone else hears, so if (is that Spider) doesn't stand up, he looks like he's afraid. So he knows he'll do it.

@bmore808 That's cuz by the end of season 4, justin was working for michael. The roles had switched up a bit at that point. It wasn't that they was friends. Michael ran a corner and justin worked for him. Interstingly enough, justin used to work for bodie, back when michael was just a runner.

Honestly when the kid said "touch a juvenile, see what happens." Cutty should have said. "Oh so you a snitch?" That would have left the kid without options because obviously he couldn't say yes (Exhibit A: Randy) and obviously he couldn't take Cutty. In the long term, that might have prevented him from getting him to come back to the gym, but he wouldn't have gotten punked like that lol.
