@Adrian Flores its fn bs. Calling it the Department of Corrections is bs. Do your time. If on parole, keep your nose clean. Then that should be it. We either try and help reform people, or just call it the department of vengence. Part of the reason the US rate of recidivism is so high. Take away the chance for any meaningful opportunity and people will find their own. O you did time? Take this minimum wage job with no benefits, working the worst hours, and we know you are an ex con so lets treat you like shit.

Low key, this is one of the 4-5 most important scenes in the show's history. The notion that there's some inspirational reward for doing the right thing...it's not there. Doing the right thing, just like doing the wrong thing, is a choice. The foreman made a choice. Cutty has to make a choice. As we find out, he also makes the right choice. But he needed the perspective to understand what he was truly deciding on.

Lawn mower a metaphor for life... Cutty doesn't know how to start his life over so keeps pulling away and gets frustrated, not knowing how to "prime" his life... Once the guy said to put it behind you and prime, this is the start of Cutty's full rehab. He does dip back in the game but these times refine his perspective... Always excellent writing and symbolism on the show

Which is why I purchased an electric lawnmower. That priming stuff doesn't always work and plus there were times when I forgot to do it. Great parable! I love the lesson here.

All due respect but I think you missed the point of the show. I understand all the gangster parts migh be more exciting, but the overall focus of the show was the downfall of institutions and how the lower class are the ones that suffer the most from the bad decisions of those in charge. From the streets, to the docks, to the schools, to the media, to politics, this is illustrated across the board. The docks in season 2 was a key part of telling this story and actually had great acting too.
