    The fact Bodie can barely look at Cutty when he mentions his brother, squinting when he say's "he been dead" shows how much heart Bodie really had. His brother probably meant everything to him, and the fact he never ONCE mentions him outside of this scene shows how hard the game really was on him inside. He tried to act hard and mean but in reality, he was a really good guy

    Yeah, rewatching the show and this scene in particular made me realize how absolutely perfect the writing on The Wire was. There are so many subtle hints just peppered around the show, along recurring call-backs to earlier episodes or in some cases seasons with it's themes and motives.

    Isn’t everyone good like Brody? Circumstances and situations make or break you, the limited the choices are the harder the escape is…..for me the culmination was when Cutty told Dukie that he can’t help him even though Cutty knew what Dukie will end up in. Cutty learned the hard truth that he cannot save everyone….

    why do you think being hard makes you a bad guy? like why its so hard to understand that none of this shit reflects on a person character? theyre doing exatly what theyre supposed to do, giving the predicament they was raised in...what you think is "being hard", its just a person being themselves...you have to stop looking at {what the'yre doing or how they behave } and look at why theyre doing it and behaving in that manner...Why is it so easy for people in the military to go to war and come back as good guys and heros when they caused more violence overseas but its impossible for someone in the streets to still be a good dude? even while doing what he have to do in order to survive provide and protect? Street niggas arent evil..they just overprotective...We dont kill because we hate our enemies, we hardly even know them, we just love our love ones to the point we'll go to war behind their lives being took..

    Even if you never seen this show, the acting from these guys tells a lot about their personalities. -Bodie: Hotheaded, belligerent, disrespectful, but has a heart when his brother is mentioned in a positive light. -Slim Charles: Laid back, mild mannered, and is respectful in telling his elder of how things are currently being run. -Cutty: Nostalgic, from the old school, is a bit behind on the times, but deep down has a good heart when he felt genuinely sadden to hear about Bodie's brother James.

    Cutty knew how to deal with life on the streets, but had a natural connection with the youth. Rather then get offended he found a way to reach out to Bodie. With a few words he won him over, when Bodie sensed Cutties realness and compassion. It said it all when after a somewhat tense introduction, Bodie followed Cutty and Slim Charles. He was following the "big brother's" friend.

If "real" is being honest to one's fellow gangstars, not cooperating with police and all that pathological stuff, then probably you might consider this guy as kind of "real". For me, being real is having respect for every human being life, trying to reach something in life knowing that there are things in life that you can't control; being honest in general, but also having respect for yourself. @@RealityCheck6T9 People don't understand the whole killing Wallace thing man. I think Bodie never had to kill someone he liked before, maybe Wallace was even the first time he had to kill someone at all. He needed to do that because he was a soldier indeed and that was the life he was led to live, so he put it above everything else, but he killed Wallace with tears in his eyes man (check the scene with attention, he goes away in a rush and crying, but you almost can't see it because it's dark, it's also a way of showing how Bodie can't really show how he is feeling inside due to the life he lives, and he is only 16 at the time), and Poot was the one who had the balls to do the mercy shot, not Bodie.

    Dayum this scene says so much without speaking... When he says “I used to spar with your older brother james, he had a killer left” you can see bodie’s tuffness drop for a slight second to reminisce about his brother, but caught himself and said “yeah when he aint drop it”.. And when Cutty didnt even know he passed away, and he told him, you could see genuine sadness on Cuttys face and Bodie peeped that, and instantly got respect for Cutty, he obviously looked up to his brother. One of the best introductions ever on the show. So subtle but yet so deep. Amazing acting.

    you're right, they never got to see the greater good :-( I wasn't expecting to like or even empathise with bodie from how dismissive he was towards d'angelo in season 1, but then he grew to become a hard boned soldier who earned my respect. bodie was a man of his word, that's for sure

  • @thebadguychinli4011

    @thebadguychinli4011

    6 жыл бұрын

    Amanda Yeo Bodie was dismissive of D'Angelo for the same reason Stringer was...he did nothing to earn his position and got by only off the reputation of his uncle. He could tell D'Angelo was soft and that's why he constantly challenged him. Someone that is hard and unruly like Bodie isn't going to just respect someone like D'Angelo off rip; they have to actually have that reputation behind them. You see how Bodie showed respect to Slim, Bey, Stringer, Stinkum and Avon yet he dismissed a soldier like Cutty because he didn't know of him at that moment. Same way he was so ready to tool up against Marlo because he didn't know of him at that moment. Bodie is like a lot of these young cats, while a Wallace and a Poot are sprinkled in every here and there. You're not watching the show the way the writers intended. You have to really look and understand these people to get a conclusive opinion. If you understood the characters of D'Angelo and Bodie, then you'd feel differently. It's like putting an older Namond in charge of Michael, basically. Simply put, he didn't see D'Angelo as someone to respect or listen to and for good reason.

    Lol this def is one of them top-tier shows of all time. You can see how close to real life this scene portrays. You see the way everyone besides maybe slim is carrying themselves much more serious and carefully than normal? To the point of fronting pretty much. Cutty fresh back on the streets after 14 years and probably a bit shell shocked from the changes in the world and his city while he was away...did try to connect with Bodie positively but with one of the most masculine subjects... The way Bodie catches himself like "oh u knew my brother? Tell me some stories about him when he was here in life", but instead he has to stop himself and put his pissed/cocky face back on to avoid even a hint of what could be considered weakness on the streets. Cutty was kinda doing the same thing...almost forcibly keeping a serious demeanor even tho it wasn't his natural instinct, but necessary on the streets. Even Poot asks TJ if he "has one with some minutes" like TJ just spilled red Kool aid on his new white sneakers or something...or like he's battling a wicked shit...even tho really he just texting his little girlfriend with the STD probably on the level of pillow talk, a temporary escape from the reality of his daily grind. Slim the only one that always just seems to flow naturally as a human even in the streets. Cutty left the game to open a gym, Poot left the game to sell sneakers, and Bodie was so sick of how low and chaotic and grimey the game was falling that even he was starting to drop lil dimes to McNulty. So all 3 of these men/young men weren't truly who they were carrying themselves as in this scene to where it shows how they gotta force it. Most people have good in them, but are so conditioned by their environment that they can't express any kind-heartedness and end up all messed up. When you in a dangerous spot doing dangerous business and interacting with all kinds of different people and lawmen with eyes in the back of your head, you gotta carry yourself a certain way like that so nobody thinks you're soft and get the idea of punking you. The whole mindset is the only thing prisons instill in men which further spills it into the streets. Few father figures and even fewer fathers...just a sad reality. Most men or young men will know exactly what I'm talking about. I think the moral of the show besides "the game will always be the game, only thing that changes is the players" and "the true villian is the city of Baltimore" is that too many people tryna be someone they not even if it's cuz options are so limited. This is also backed up by stringer tryna be "downtown stringer brown" or some of the police like Herc, Carver, and that Italian A-hole just doing it to feel tough to themselves or make rank...which is why the one dude (Prez I think) left to become an inner-city teacher even despite the rough transition. After the incident at the projects, he finally decided to stop tryna be someone hes not and try and do some good in life. Marlo leaves the party at the end cuz "downtown Marlo brown" is being someone hes not. Chris and Bey locked up for life and end up boys cuz they know they just naturally cold blooded. Namond trying to be street when it was all a front, DeAngelo questioning the game...so many examples. Omar, Michael Lee, and Slim Charles are examples of the realest, prop Joe was the real "downtown prop Joe Brown", McNulty was the real police, Dukie was the real tragic story of stolen innocence and downward spiral as a side effect of the game, Cheese was the real irredeemable scumbag, Kenard was the real sociopath in waiting...just such a great show. Some characters living life naturally as who they are, and others struggling to be someone they not and it shows either to themselves or to us viewers. Just a masterpiece
