    I saw this happen to a lot of very gifted people in college. People who we're 100x more intelligent than me didn't get as good of grades as I did because on top of school they had to worry about food, housing, transportation, siblings, and some even had to take care of their parents.

    If Micheal had stayed in the game instead of going the Omar route, I could definitely see him wearing the crown one day. He had brains and street smarts beyond his years. You're so right and to look at it even deeper, he had no choice. His aunt that lives in the nice part of MD took the little brother Bug in because Michael was giving her money. Why didn't she take Mike in too? Shouldn't she question where is a 15 year old getting this kind of money from? Nope, she didn't even let him come in the house, just took Bug and closed the door. A classic example of middle class families that turn their back on their "hood" relatives. That's sad

  • @edwardgiovannelli5191

    @edwardgiovannelli5191

    Жыл бұрын

    @@rindabarclay3119 Is that really why? I haven't seen season 4 in a couple years, so I may be off, but I don't remember them stating anywhere that money was the specific reason the aunt took Bug in. The way I saw it, Michael was taking Bug to the aunt's house to save him from the street, in hopes that he would do better with his as-yet salvageable life. But he (Mike) stayed on the street because he felt as though he was already damaged goods. He couldn't go back to being a child under someone else's roof because he had already outgrown that stage of his life and there was nothing left for him but to live in the city and make his own way. Of course, I could be wrong. I guess I'm focusing on the inherent goodness of Michael rather than the implied greed of the aunt.

    No, it certainly wasn't. Simon had faith in his audience that we could observe what whas going on and draw our own conclusions, decipher the story ourselves, rather than being spoon-fed plot points with bad dialogue and paper thin characters. The Wire spoiled TV for me since the day I started watching it. It set the bar so high that very few shows even seem worth watching anymore... and I honestly watch a lot less tv since seeing The Wire. It just doesn't seem worth the time anymore.

I said nah girl he's a real one, he's lived the show, lived the reality of what's going on and giving perspective you can't understand if you haven't experienced it. Props man for real! This is why the Wire is one of the greatest shows out there because everything is relatable. It damn near it could be a biography of the inner cities. The way the show is written and they way the actors portrayed these characters are so realistic.

    The 3 scenes that make up the killing of Michael's dad is just the most perfect story telling. In the lead up we have scenes showing how much he keeps bug away from his dad, how panicked he gets when Bug gets collected after school by his his dad. We can see that his dad isn’t violent, so it has to be abuse. We get the scene with Marlo, then the scene when Michael points out his dad. That look from Chris when he understands what Michael has gone through. Then the death scene. The first time we see Chris show emotion. To be ‘unprofessional'. It’s the perfect example of 'show, don’t tell' film making. No exposition. Just actions. And why is a sex offender released? Because he didn’t get locked up for sex offences.

  • @gingerpunk2129

    @gingerpunk2129

    To your last point, exactly. It said on the stepdad's file that the sexual abuse inquiry was closed as "inconclusive" due to noncooperation. Bug's dad was never convicted for sex offenses. Thus, he was allowed to move right back in with Michael's mom.

    Doesnt matter if he get locked up for sex abuse. He would have been out on the streets faster than whatever charge he got locked up for. Idk where people get this thing that they get locked up. Only the ones with overwhelming evidence get years, but sadly most cases dont have enough evidence and the charges amd time drops down to nearly nothing or probation

    2Pac said it best. " My stomach hurts so I'm looking for a purse to snatch"!!!! I felt that more than anyone could understand. I grew up in the projects. No Dad mom addicted to drugs and alcohol. 10 years old I was robbing anything I could to feed my little brother and sister. I was so bad until I met my wife. Those days are so far away but sometimes I still go back to that place in my mind. I feel so bad for kids in real life situations that go through that trauma because some things scar you for life. God bless!!!!!!

    I don't think Dukie necessarily had the privilege of being the younger/sole kid to his negligent junkie parents. He was a bullied kid that never fit in, and given he wasn't forced to abandon his childhood as quickly as Michael was, eventually his lack of street smarts/toughness and his need for a guardian leads to him becoming a homeless drug addict, and sadly probably dead to a Fentanyl dose. One of the genius things about the Wire is a lot is conveyed without it being in dialogue; for instance Michael's perpetual distrust of grown ups trying to help him, a classic sign of child abuse. Good analysis.

    I dont think omar said Michele just a kid because he was underestimating him, i think he made that statement because he felt sorrow because a child was put in a position where being ruthless was his option

    Bro, I've been on your videos for 2 days now. I love The Wire. It's my favorite show period, regardless of genre. I watch it at least twice a year once it was on demand. You make a lot of key points I make regarding the best seasons and how people didn't get into it until season 4. Your breakdowns are deeper than mine and I like it. Your content is better than any other breakdown (and it's a bunch of them) on KZread. Keep up the good work. ✌️
