Herc loses his job over this and then starts working for Levy, which gives him access to Marlo’s phone number that he passes along to Carver and finds its way into Lester’s hands so they can use the wiretap to figure out the codes Marlo and his crew are using. Cedric Daniels said it, our police need to be trained how to use and not get used by there CI's. Herc went to the well once to often without doing his part and got poisoned.

Not just that, but if Herc was nicer and gentler during the search, he could've probably just apologized saying he got bad information and helped the minister back into the car. Maybe the minister still would've been mad, maybe not. But Herc always goes out of his way to enrage suspects and found out the hard way not every suspect is a criminal.

Never liked Herc, he always acted like an immature frat boy and was more interested in roughing the street kids up and throwing them in jail instead of actually trying to give them guidance or be a positive role model for them. All he did was make them hate cops more than they actually did and essentially create more gangsters. At least Carver matured over the course of the show, can’t say the same about Herc.

Even then that was after threatening to trash her house "every night" to look for Bodie. Herc was an ass; period. Only got as far as he did because he played by Rawls' (and ultimately the higher-ups) standards, which were obviously faulty and ineffective, especially when compared to the Major Crimes Unit.

Herc fucked over Randy because he hinted about who snitched on the murder of Lex. Lil Kevin later told Marlo about this situation resulting in Lil Kevin getting murdered and Marlo decided to spread the word about Randy being a snitch, which made him a target to everyone, resulting in the fire that burned down Randy’s foster mom’s house.
