They say the hardest things in life are worth fighting for. I don't know that there needs to be this many hoops to going rally racing but, such is life.

Great Video brother! Wish we had more rallies in the US.
Hellas Rally does not require a race license, just race insurance. Was hard to find one in Norway, but the organizers sell one in Greece that was pretty comprehensive. If you want to race in the FIM. categories you need the license of course

Those medical costs seem pretty inexpensive compared to what we have here in the USA. Still it’s nice to see the clear breakdown of your costs for your trip as a point of reference. And what kinds of things are necessary for the racing organization putting on the event.
@BrakeMagazine

I mean, we have no medical costs here. The point really is that it stretches the sport outside the remit of most people and the requirements are disproportionate to the effort. Nearly every Enduro I've ever raced was significantly more difficult and physical than and any rally I've ridden bar Dakar.

usa is a scam though - you know that, the world does too - the 'health ' system is just insanity and run on corporate greed - i have been unlucky enough to get hurt in UK, France and ussa - the bill from over there was approaching 12x the one in France - uk was free cuz uk homeboy
yep every person I know who does this has 3x KTMs and lots of disposable income.

Rally is stupid expensive. Insane fun. And crazy expensive I am curious to see how insurance pans out for hellas from Ireland. As a non FIM private rider you gotta rely on the local rally organiser,right? Or is there another way.?
@BrakeMagazine

I'm not sure. There is a Norwegian chap in the comments mentioning about it.
Ok, I seems like my poor ass keeps going with MotoGymkhana where the driving to an event + hotel are only expenses 😁 costs of participating in rally (any rally) are insane.
I’d say it’s definitely worth it

Which bit? 😂😂 Was a ripper time!
Someone already mentioned not every rally requires FIM race license and also if you transport your own motorcycle and bike owner is with you carnet is not required if vehicle is registered. You can get repatriation insurance for whole year in europe under £200 cheaper for single event at good level of protection
@BrakeMagazine
Жыл бұрын
Perfectly right about the FIM bit. However, the carnet, not true. If its a motorsport vehicle of any kind, ie you're going to a track or race you absolutely need a carnet. That's what we were fined for. The never even asked who owned the bikes and this is now the government official guidelines. As for the insurance, please link to the companies doing this for races. I couldn't find anyone who would. 😊

@@BrakeMagazine maybe it’s because I included the links. Either way, last June I drove down with my mate to Albania for a rally with two road registered rally bikes and had no carnet and got checked on every border. We had no issues or fines so that’s a bit confusing as you said you got fined 🤔 Insurance wise there is 3 companies that do/did insurance UK - P J Hayman & company, most expensive France - Assure ton sport, mid range cover and they got good options Spain - RBG sport, basic cover
@BrakeMagazine

@@HeavyEnduroAdventures I think there is a little bit of luck in the UK/France border. After thatI don't think anyone cares. We had €500 fine on the sport and were refused entry. That meant we missed the next ferry too. All in cost about €1500 in lost money. Thanks for the insurance companies. I spoke to RBG before going with the ACU and they wouldn't cover me for an off-road event. :/ I'll look at the others next time :D
OMG. That's beyond insane. The only way to do it cheaper is to do some amateurish rallies... in your country, basically.

Pretty much.
Did the whole spreadsheet gig for Hellas this year and it was either £11k with support or £7k on my jack which is pretty much a full season road racing a superbike. Still trying to figure out what’d be the most rewarding…

oh so what do you have to do to qualify for Dakar.? You cant just enter Malle moto?
@BrakeMagazine
Жыл бұрын
You have to do some sort of qualifying race. They have list of them around the world. They are generally much smaller, easier events but the point is to check you're vaguely capable in an environment the organisers know.
this medical stuff is crazy?? in Aus you pay your couple of hundred a year and have a race licence .... and if your doing any local rally stuff i think all you need is a valid drivers licence LOL we get medical covered under our registration costs and we pay about 100 AUS a year for ambulance cover .... crazy stuff!!
gosh, i had no idea it was so complicated with the licence. and definitely much more expensive than i thought, beyond the reach of most amateurs, i'd say. i need not add any comment on brexit really...

Honestly, the whole thing for an average person is a red flag. The time you need, the costs. You need to be a teacher with good secure income and loots of holidays to make this dream come true. But thanks for showing the reality.

To think we 'ungrateful bastards' decided it would be a good idea to leave the EU. There was plenty of warning that it would mean a return to border carnets etc, but guess what, a (slim) majority voted for it. Leave means leave, and protect our borders and all that...well, this is it in action, so suck it up, buttercup!
