This 5 piece version of the band, when the Ox was still with us, is just so damn good.

Agreed, the Royal Albert Hall CD is one of the their best. Right up there w the late ‘60s/early ‘70s stuff...

What amazes me is that they may have been at their very best musically in this period since 1970. They found Moon’s replacement and it just took off. Great stuff!

Anyone notice Pete give the keyboard player the "high" sign and then change guitars from the red to the white one ?

I was at the shoreline show after the OX croaked and they did the show the following day with Pino Palladino. it is not this show as I see the Ox in full splendor. I remember that show was almost blasphemous that they continued on without even a moment to grieve the Passing of the Ox and just soldiered on as if a backup singer quit.

I don't know what you mean by "they did the show the following day", but they rescheduled the first two shows after John died to give themselves time to not only grieve but steel themselves to go on with a tour that hundreds of people depended on for a living. Pete has said that the first time he looked over and John was missing "I wanted to die." If you think they didn't miss him more than the fans did, you're very mistaken.

The drummer messed-up de drum part big time! He managed to turn a very recognizable song into a very bland 4/4 one. Listen to Keith Moon's original drum pattern, it's very different than this one and much better.

Well Zak Starkey is no Keith Moon and he knows it well. Even though he was trained on the drums by Keith in their younger years since Keith and Ringo were good friends.

I can really do without the special effects in the intro of the song. They don't need the help.

Wich help? That you call 'effects' is the musical spine of the song, the same is in "Baba O' Riley" or "Won't get fooled" and almost in the entire Lifehouse project

Some of the who’s material in the 70’s and later use this technique. Listens to their singles and albums from that period. The introductions to the songs have synth programming - who are you is an example

@Darin b is a fool & @Aije Online is misinformed. The effect on the record of "Relay" is Pete's guitar put through the Sample & Hold filter of his ARP 2600 synthesizer. Live either Pete's guitar signal was split with the signal going into a Sample & Hold filter and the other his normal Vibro King rig OR when his brother Simon tours with them he plays the part while Pete just does the main riff, etc. The internet that this song predicted has a universe of information just waiting to be discovered, with Google making it extremely easy to find. Do a little research before posting some bullshit.

That would be John ‘Rabbit’ Bundrick who first joined The Who in 1979 less than one year after Keith Moon died. Rabbit is sadly no longer with the band however. The loss of his wife in the late 2000s apparently led him to drink heavily and Roger supposedly fired him in 2011 when The Who were planning the Quadrophenia and More Tour that started the following year.
